Chapter 5: Kneel

I stepped to the very edge of the riverbank.

The water rushed between us, dark and cold, but the freezing temperature didn’t touch me. The power inside my chest was burning like a furnace, keeping the chill at bay.

Jason stood on the opposite bank, flanked by his warriors. Olivia was there too, hovering behind him, her face pale in the moonlight.

"Elara!" Jason shouted, his voice dripping with contempt. "Stop this madness right now. You are a Silver Creek wolf. You belong to me. Get across this river before I lose my patience!"

I used to tremble at that voice. I used to bow my head whenever he raised it.

Not anymore.

"Belong to you?" I called back, my voice ringing out clear and strong. "You rejected me, Jason. You severed the bond in front of the entire pack. I am not yours anymore."

"You are a weak, pathetic omega," Jason snarled, stepping closer to the water. "You think Blackwood will protect you? You're just a pawn to him. A toy. I am your Alpha, and I command you to return!"

He raised his hand, his eyes flashing black. It was the Alpha Command. A compulsion that forced the wolf inside a pack member to submit.

I felt the invisible wave of his authority crash against me, trying to force my knees to buckle.

My wolf simply opened her eyes.

The command didn't just shatter. It evaporated, like mist in a hurricane. I didn't even flinch.

Jason's face went slack with shock. "What—"

"My turn," I whispered.

I didn't shout. I didn't have to. I reached deep into that well of roaring power in my chest, grabbed hold of it, and pushed it outward.

It wasn't like Vera's bedroom. I didn't just press them down. I dropped an absolute, crushing weight on the entire opposite bank.

The effect was instantaneous.

The dozen Silver Creek warriors behind Jason collapsed like puppets with their strings cut. They hit the dirt, gasping, their faces pressed into the mud. Olivia screamed, her legs giving out as she grabbed onto a tree root to keep from falling into the river.

But Jason didn't fall.

He stumbled, his knees bending, his face contorting in a desperate struggle against an invisible mountain. He was an Alpha. His pride refused to let him kneel.

"Kneel," I commanded.

My voice echoed over the river, vibrating with the ancient authority of the Moon Goddess herself.

Jason's eyes widened in pure terror. He let out a choked, furious sound, but his body betrayed him. His knees slammed into the dirt. His hands hit the ground. The Alpha of Silver Creek was forced to bow to the mate he had thrown away.

"That's impossible," Jason choked out, spitting blood from where he had bitten his lip. "You're an omega! You're nothing!"

"I was nothing because you made me nothing," I said, my tone colder than the river. "But I am done playing the victim. Take your warriors and leave, Jason. If I ever see you on this side of the river again, I won't just make you kneel. I will break you."

The pressure snapped. Jason and his warriors instantly collapsed further into the mud, gasping for air.

Jason pushed himself up, his chest heaving. He looked at me—really looked at me—and for the first time in my life, I saw fear in his eyes. Without a word, he grabbed Olivia by the arm, barked an order to his pack, and retreated into the darkness of the Silver Creek woods.

A massive, warm hand landed on my shoulder.

Kael stepped up beside me, his eyes burning with unrestrained pride. "You didn't just win a skirmish, Elara. You just declared war."

I looked up at him, the adrenaline finally fading, leaving me shaking. "Did I do something wrong?"

"No," Kael growled, wrapping his arm around my waist and pulling me tightly against his side. "You did something perfect. But Jason is a coward. He will not fight you alone. He will run to the Council of Alphas. He will tell them you are an abomination."

Let him, my wolf whispered in my mind.

"Let him," I said out loud.

Kael smiled, a dangerous, lethal curve of his lips. He leaned down, his nose brushing against my neck, inhaling my scent.

"Then we have a long journey ahead of us, little heir," he murmured against my skin. "Because if the Council comes for you, they will have to go through me."

  • Rejected by My Alpha, Claimed by the Enemy   Chapter 22: The Frozen Peak

The darkness was alive. As we rode out of the Blackwood gates, the shadows didn't just block the light; they clawed at us. They had form now—long, skeletal fingers of black smoke that reached out from the treeline to snatch at our horses' legs.I rode at the center of the formation, my golden light radiating outward in a protective bubble. Vera and the elite guard flanked us, their swords drawn, cutting down any shadow that breached the barrier.Kael rode beside me, his eyes scanning the darkness. "How much further?""The Frozen Peak is a day's ride north," I shouted over the howling wind. "But we can't ride all the way. The terrain gets too steep."We pushed the horses hard. The unnatural darkness made it impossible to tell time. There was no sun, no moon, only the crimson glow of the Blood Moon occasionally peeking through the thick clouds of shadow.By the time we reached the base of the Frozen Peak, the horses were exhausted, their breath misting in the freezing air.We dismounted

The Silver Creek warriors didn't move. The silver-haired woman—who I vaguely remembered as a distant cousin of Jason’s—sneered at me. "You think your parlor tricks scare us? You're still the same weak omega who ran away with her tail between her legs."Kael growled, stepping forward, but I placed a hand on his chest."Let me," I said softly.I looked at the warriors. I didn't feel anger. I felt pity. They were clinging to a past that had already crumbled to dust.I reached into the golden well of my power, not to attack, but to command. I let a fraction of the Moon Goddess's authority bleed into the room. The temperature dropped. The air grew heavy. The silver-haired woman gasped, her knees buckling. She hit the stone floor, her eyes wide with terror. Behind her, the other warriors collapsed, their weapons clattering to the ground."I am not the weak omega you remember," I said, my voice echoing with divine resonance. "I am the High Priestess. And I am your only chance at survival."I

Dawn broke over Blackwood, revealing the true cost of the battle. The courtyard was a graveyard of ash and shattered stone. We had lost twelve warriors. Dozens more were wounded. The healers worked tirelessly, their hands glowing with soft green light as they tended to the injured.I stood on the balcony, looking out at the destruction. My hand rested on my stomach, a protective instinct I couldn't control. The baby was quiet now, the massive surge of power from last night completely drained.Kael stepped out onto the balcony, a heavy fur draped over his shoulders. He wrapped it around me, pulling me close."The Council is demanding answers," he murmured. "They want to know what the Twin Flame is.""So do I," I admitted. "The First Alpha called it the 'ultimate balance of light and dark.' But I don't know what that means.""We need to find out before he attacks again," Kael said, his voice hard. "He won't retreat forever."A sudden memory sparked in my mind. My mother. She had been th

The shadow army hit the fortress walls like a battering ram.I stood on the main battlements, Kael at my side, as the black tide crashed against the ancient stone. The creatures weren't wolves. They were faceless, shifting masses of smoke and dark magic, their claws leaving jagged, frostbitten scars on the stone."Archers, fire!" Vera roared.A volley of silver-tipped arrows rained down, but the arrows passed straight through the shadows, doing nothing. The creatures didn't even slow down."They're immune to physical weapons!" I shouted."Then use your light!" Kael yelled, drawing his sword and leaping off the battlement into the thick of the fight.I closed my eyes, reaching for the golden well inside my chest. I pushed it outward, a massive wave of divine light cascading down the fortress walls. The shadows hit the light and shrieked—a sound like tearing metal—as they disintegrated into ash.For a moment, we had the upper hand. The Blackwood warriors cheered, pushing back the dark t

The Council chamber was chaos.Alphas from a dozen packs were shouting over one another, their voices echoing off the stone walls. Lord Marcus stood at the head of the table, looking older and more frail than he had since the Ashen Lands."The First Alpha is a myth!" one of the Northern Alphas bellowed, slamming his fist on the table. "Our ancestors used his story to frighten pups into obedience. He cannot be real!""The tomb is empty!" Vera shot back, pointing to the ancient scroll. "Or did the myth steal his own body?"I sat beside Kael, my hand resting on my stomach beneath the table. The golden light inside me was still humming with unease, reacting to the lingering magic of the Blood Moon."Enough," Kael said. His voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the room like a blade. Every Alpha fell silent. "We don't have time to debate mythology. We need to fortify the borders and prepare for an attack.""Prepare for what?" the Northern Alpha sneered. "An army of shadows?"The doors to t

  • Rejected by My Alpha, Claimed by the Enemy   Chapter 17: The Blood Moon Prophecy

Three months had passed since the night I became High Priestess. The Blackwood territory was unrecognizable. The once-rugged fortress was now the central hub of the werewolf world. A new Council had been formed, one where Alphas ruled alongside their Lunas, and the old laws of oppression were burned to ash.But peace, I was learning, was a fragile thing.I stood on the balcony of our bedroom, watching the sun set over the mountains. My hand rested on my stomach, a small, secret smile playing on my lips. I hadn't told Kael yet. I wanted to wait until the healer confirmed it, but I knew. The mate bond had felt different for weeks. There was a new, tiny heartbeat pulsing alongside ours."Daydreaming again?"I turned as Kael stepped onto the balcony. He wrapped his arms around me from behind, pulling me flush against his chest."Just enjoying the quiet," I said, leaning my head back against his shoulder."Enjoy it while it lasts," he murmured, pressing a kiss to my neck. "Vera said the de
