Selene’s POV

The room slowly came back to life.

Conversation resumed, softer than before, as though everyone was afraid to be the first to speak too loudly in front of Blood Howl’s new Luna.

Helene guided me toward a cluster of elegantly dressed women near the windows.

“I’d like you to meet some of our closest friends.”

Friends.

An interesting word.

These women had watched me spend years serving this house.

Some had looked away.

Some had whispered behind their teacups.

Not one of them had ever

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Ch. 40 Your Awake

Selene’s POV I woke to an empty bed. Ronan’s side was cold, which meant he’d been gone for a while. I wasn’t surprised. After everything Alpha Xavier had told us, there was no chance Ronan would stay in bed while the council waited for answers. I sat up and rubbed my hands over my face. For once, I’d slept without waking every hour. I still felt tired, but it wasn’t the same heavy exhaustion that had kept me in bed yesterday. My head was clearer, even if everything Xavier had said was still waiting for me. Cassius Varric had been searching for my bloodline for years. My mother had known. Helene had known. And somehow, I was supposed to wake up and continue as if I hadn’t learned my entire life had been shaped by people I’d never met. A knock sounded against the door. “My Luna?” “Come in.” One of the maids entered carrying a breakfast tray. She gave me a careful smile as she brought it over to the bed. “The Alpha asked me to bring this to you.” “Did he ask, o

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Preparation for War

Ronan’s POVThe corridor outside our chambers was quiet.Too quiet. The heavy doors closed behind me with little more than a whisper, and I paused for a moment, listening. Inside, Selene still slept. It wasn’t peaceful sleep—her breathing hitched every so often, and twice she’d clung to my hand as though afraid I’d disappear if she let go—but it was sleep all the same.It was the first real rest she’d managed since Xavier had spoken the truth aloud.I intended to protect it.A pair of guards straightened the moment I stepped into the hall.“My Alpha.”I acknowledged them with a nod.“No one enters unless my Luna asks for them.”“Yes, Alpha.”The scent of rain drifted through an open window farther down the corridor. Storm clouds had gathered over the mountains, swallowing the last light of evening.Fitting.Darius waited near the staircase with his arms folded across his chest. One look at my face told him everything he needed to know.“She’s asleep.”Relief flickered across his featu

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Ch. 39-It feels as if depression is swallowing me whole.

Selene’s POVThe bed hadn’t moved since dawn, and neither had I. Someone had opened the curtains earlier, though I couldn’t remember hearing them enter. Sunlight had crawled across the floorboards, climbed the foot of the bed, and eventually reached my bare feet before fading as the afternoon slipped toward evening. I hadn’t bothered closing them, just as I hadn’t bothered touching the tray that had been left outside my door hours ago.Every so often, the scent of warm bread drifted beneath the crack before cooling into nothing.I wasn’t hungry. My stomach felt hollow, but the thought of swallowing anything made my throat tighten. There had been several knocks throughout the day. Servants had called softly through the door, followed by one of the guards, and eventually Darius, who had stood in the hallway long enough to make it clear he wasn’t leaving without trying.I had ignored all of them.Ronan had been pulled into council meetings and pack business almost immediately after Alpha

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Ch.38 Plans change

Alpha Xavier’s POVThe gates of BloodHowl pack lands disappeared behind us beneath the cover of darkness. No one spoke for the first mile. The only sounds came from pounding hooves, leather creaking with every stride, and the wind cutting across the open plains separating Ronan’s territory from my own.I welcomed the silence. There wasn’t a warrior alive stupid enough to interrupt me after a meeting like that.Especially not after watching Ronan BloodHowl look one heartbeat away from ripping my throat out.Good.Anger made men predictable.A horse moved up beside mine.“Knew you’d be pissed if I spoke before we crossed the border.”I glanced sideways.Beta Kieran rode with the same relaxed posture he always carried, one hand resting loosely on the reins while the other drummed against his thigh.“You were right.”“I usually am.”He snorted.“I’ll write that on your gravestone.”A faint smile tugged at the corner of my mouth.“You’ll have to outlive me first.”“Working on it.”Silence

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Ch.37-Raised to be broken

Selene’s POVHelene’s handwriting curled across the parchment in the same elegant loops I had watched form beneath her pen for years while she addressed invitations, prepared household orders, and signed my father’s name beneath decisions he rarely bothered to read.I knew the pressure she used on every capital letter and the slight tilt that appeared whenever she was angry.Xavier had not forged it.Ronan’s arm remained locked around my waist, holding me upright when my knees no longer seemed capable of remembering their purpose, but even his warmth couldn’t stop the cold spreading beneath my skin.“For more than a decade?” My voice scraped painfully against my throat. “She started sending information about me when I was still a child?”“The earliest letter I uncovered was written eleven years ago,” Xavier replied. “There may have been others before it.”Eleven years.I remembered thin knees beneath plain skirts, tangled red hair Helene yanked while accusing me of embarrassing her, a

  • Rejected by my Mate, Chosen by his Alpha Father   Chapter 36-Tension at the Border

Selene’s POV The horn sounded a second time, rolling through the clearing like thunder trapped beneath the earth. Ronan’s hand closed around mine before the last note faded. Outside the tent, boots struck the ground in disciplined waves as BloodHowl warriors shifted into position. The casual murmur of the camp disappeared beneath clipped commands, armor sliding over leather, and swords being loosened inside their sheaths. The air itself seemed to change. Every breath carried the sharp bite of smoke from the cooking fires and the metallic promise of violence waiting beneath all the polished silver and diplomatic ceremony. Darius remained in the entrance, his expression stripped of its usual humor. “Xavier brought thirty warriors to the outer checkpoint.” Ronan’s jaw tightened. “He was permitted twenty.” “He claims the additional men are personal attendants.” “Do his attendants carry battle-axes?” “Only the ones responsible for folding his shirts.” Ronan’s fing
