The walls of the mansion groaned. The magic shields didn't just break; they exploded. A thick, red fog poured into the room through the broken windows. It smelled like old blood and cold metal.

"Kaima, get behind me!" Rowan roared.

His body was changing. His muscles grew huge, and a silver light moved under his skin. The black crown mark on his neck was glowing so bright it looked like it was burning him.

"No, Rowan," I said. My voice sounded deep and scary, like a beast’s growl. "I’m not hiding anymore."

A monster jumped through the window. It wasn't a wolf. It was a "Hound of the Void"—a creature made of black smoke and giant white teeth. Its eyes were like two pits of fire. It let out a scream that made my bones shake.

Rowan jumped at it. He tackled the monster mid-air, his long black claws ripping into its chest. But the monster didn't die. The smoke just moved back together and healed.

"You can't kill a ghost, Alpha!" a voice shouted from the fog.

I looked at the window. A man in a bone mask was floating in the mist. It was a Council Elder.

"The First Fang must be captured!" the Elder yelled. "Give us the girl, Rowan, or everyone in your pack dies!"

"You want her?" Rowan snarled. He was pinning another monster to the floor with his bare hands. "Come and take her. But I will kill you before you touch her!"

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. I gasped and fell to my knees. Because of our soul-bond, I could feel everything Rowan felt. Every time a monster scratched him, I felt the cut on my own body.

"Rowan, stop!" I cried. "It’s hurting you because of me!"

"I don't care," Rowan wheezed. Blood was dripping down his face. "I would die for you, Kaima."

The Elder laughed. "How sweet. Monsters, tear him apart! Leave the girl for me."

Three more smoke-monsters circled Rowan. He was fast, but he was getting tired. These things couldn't be killed by normal teeth and claws.

Let me out, the Beast hissed in my head. The Alpha is dying for you. Stop being a coward. Let. Me. Out!

I looked at Rowan. He was on one knee now. A monster had its teeth sunk deep into his shoulder. He didn't scream, but he looked at me with eyes full of love.

"Run... Kaima..." he whispered.

That was it. Something snapped inside me. The "weak girl" died right there.

"GET AWAY FROM HIM!" I screamed.

The sound was like a bomb going off. A wave of purple energy hit the monsters and slammed them into the walls. I stood up. The floor under my feet turned to ash. My skin was covered in glowing purple marks.

The Elder’s mask cracked. "What is that?"

"You wanted the Beast?" I said. My voice sounded like two people talking at once. "Here it is."

I reached my hand out toward a monster. I didn't even touch it. I just closed my fist.

The smoke-monster let out a choked sound. Its body was sucked into my hand like water down a drain. I didn't feel tired; I felt a huge rush of power.

I moved faster than a bullet. One second I was across the room, the next I was standing over Rowan.

A monster tried to jump on me. I caught it by the throat with one hand. I ripped its head off like it was made of paper. The white fire in its eyes went out.

"Kaima..." Rowan gasped, looking at me in shock.

I walked toward the Elder on the balcony. Every step I took made the house shake. The Elder tried to run, but the shadows on the floor rose up like snakes and grabbed his legs. They dragged him down and slammed him into the stone.

"The Council are cowards," I spat, looking down at him. My eyes were glowing bright violet.

"Please!" the Elder begged.

"Go back to the Council," I said. "Tell them the girl they hated is gone. Tell them the Beast is hungry. And tell my ex-mate, Damon, that I am coming for his throne next."

I didn't kill him. I pressed my thumb onto his forehead. A purple mark burned into his skin. He screamed in pain and ran away into the fog, crying like a baby.

The monsters vanished. The red fog went away. The room was a mess, but the fight was over.

The power left my body, and I felt dizzy. My legs gave out.

Strong arms caught me.

"I’ve got you," Rowan whispered.

He was human again, but he was covered in deep cuts. He didn't care about his injuries. He held me close to his chest. I could hear his heart beating fast.

"You saved me," he said. His voice was shaky. "No one has ever killed a Void Hound before."

"I’m not a normal girl anymore," I whispered. I looked up at him. "Rowan... I had a vision during our bond."

"What did you see?" He moved a piece of hair out of my eyes. He was so gentle.

"I saw a throne," I said. "I saw you wearing a crown of thorns. And I saw myself... holding a knife. I was going to kill you."

Rowan didn't look scared. He didn't pull away. He put his forehead against mine.

"Then kill me," he whispered. "If I ever become a monster, or if I ever stand in your way... I want you to be the one to end me. I am yours, Kaima. Do whatever you want with me."

"Don't say that," I said, but he kissed me before I could finish.

The kiss tasted like blood and salt, but it was the best thing I had ever felt. I could feel his wounds starting to heal just by being near me. Our bond was making him strong again.

When we stopped kissing, I saw something.

A black bird was sitting on the window. It had amber eyes—the same eyes as my ex-mate, Damon. It was watching us.

"He was spying on us," I said, pointing at the bird.

"Let him watch," Rowan growled. His eyes flashed silver. "Let him see what he threw away. Because tomorrow, we stop hiding. Tomorrow, my army marches."

I looked at the mark on Rowan’s neck. It looked like a purple crown now. It was a promise of war.

"Rowan?" I asked. He picked me up in his arms.

"Yes, my Queen?"

"Get your men ready. I don't just want to beat Damon. I want to destroy the Council."

Rowan laughed. It was a dark, happy sound. "Whatever you want, Kaima."

He carried me out of the room. Outside, the forest was dark and quiet. Somewhere out there, Damon was probably celebrating his new marriage. He thought he was safe. He thought I was nothing.

He was wrong. I was the Origin. And I was coming for his head.

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Silent Forest

I stood at the edge of the cave, clutching the silver ring until it dug into my palm. The morning sun was bright, but it didn't feel warm. To the rest of the world, this was a day of victory. To me, it was the day the world went quiet.I was no longer a Queen. I could no longer hear the whispers of the trees or the heartbeat of the earth. I was just Kaima—a girl with no pack, no power, and a heart that felt like it had been turned to stone."Rowan..." I whispered his name, but the wind didn't carry it back to me.I looked back at the temple. The entrance was sealed shut by a wall of black ice. No matter how much I kicked or screamed, I couldn't get back in. The Altar had taken its price, and the price was the only man who had ever truly seen me.A twig snapped behind me.I spun around, my heart jumping into my throat. I didn't have my violet eyes to see in the dark or my super-speed to run. I was slow. I was human.A man stepped out from behind a frozen pine tree. He wasn't wearing a

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Black Sky Rising

The sky didn't just turn dark; it turned bruised. The pillar of smoke in the North expanded like an ink blot in a glass of water, swallowing the stars. The air felt heavy, like the atmosphere was being replaced by lead. Every wolf in the valley, from my Blue-Eyed ghosts to the defeated Council warriors, let out a long, low whimper. The Soul-Eaters.The stories our elders told us were wrong. They weren't just monsters; they were the shadows of the universe. They didn't want to rule us. They wanted to erase us."We have to move," Rowan gasped. He tried to stand, but his legs gave out again. I caught him, his heavy weight leaning into my shoulder. "Kaima, the Northern Gate is where your father’s people came from. There is a temple there. If the Soul-Eaters reach it, they will use the Altar to suck the life out of every living thing on earth."I looked at the giant, winged shape in the distance. It was moving slowly, but with every flap of its thousand wings, another mountain peak crumble

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Ghost Army’s Vow

The mountain air was so cold it felt like breathing in needles. On the hills surrounding the Black-Ridge manor, thousands of wolves stood ready for blood. The High Council had brought everything—armies from the North, South, East, and West. Their armor gleamed under the rising moon, a sea of gold and silver that looked like it could crush the world. In the center stood the Grand Alpha. He was a massive man with hair as white as a blizzard and eyes that held the weight of centuries. He looked down at us from his high horse, his face full of disgust."Rowan," the Grand Alpha’s voice boomed, shaking the very earth. "You were meant to be our jailer. Instead, you fell in love with the prisoner. You have betrayed your blood, your pack, and the Goddess herself."Rowan leaned heavily against me. He was still weak from the Void, but he forced himself to stand straight. He gripped my hand so hard his knuckles turned white."I didn't betray the Goddess," Rowan shouted back, his voice raw. "I fou

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Bottom of the Universe

Falling. That was the only thing I knew. There was no up, no down, no air, and no sound. Just the feeling of my stomach dropping as I plunged through a tunnel of thick, oily blackness. The bone-hand had let go of me the moment the portal snapped shut, leaving me to drift in a place where time didn't exist. My heart—the heart that had just been restart by the Beast—thumped painfully against my ribs.Thump.Thump.Thump."Rowan?" I tried to scream his name, but no sound came out. The Void swallowed my voice before it could even leave my throat.I looked at my hands. The violet runes were gone. The metallic white hair was fading back to a dull brown. I felt small. I felt like the weak, discarded omega again. The poison from Chloe’s blade was gone, but it had taken my strength with it.Beast? Are you there? I called out in my mind.Silence.For the first time since the forest, I was truly alone. The ancient spirit that had given me wings and fire was hiding, or maybe the "Soul-Eater" had

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Blood of the Origin

The pain wasn't like a normal cut. It felt like someone had poured liquid ice into my veins. The blade Chloe had shoved into my ribs was coated in "Black-Silver"—a poison designed to kill gods.I fell to my knees. The violet fire that had been screaming around me vanished. My smoke wings dissolved into ash. I could hear the heartbeat of the Beast in my head, but it was slowing down.Thump... thump... thump..."Kaima!" Rowan’s voice screamed. He didn't look like a "harvester" now. He looked like a man watching his entire world collapse. He lunged toward me, but Lyla—the woman with my scent—threw a wave of purple energy that slammed him back against a stone pillar."Stay out of this, Rowan," Lyla hissed. "The ritual has begun. You know the rules. Once the blood hits the floor, the vessel is empty."Chloe pulled the blade out of my back with a sickening squelch. I collapsed into the dirt, my vision turning gray at the edges."Look at you," Chloe mocked, stepping around to look me in the

  • Rejected by the Alpha, Claimed by the Beast    The Price of Power

The morning after the attack, the air in the Black-Ridge manor was heavy. The smell of burnt magic and smoke still hung in the hallways. I stood on the training grounds, a flat area of gray stone surrounded by jagged mountains. The wind was cold, biting at my skin, but I didn't feel it. My blood felt like it was boiling.Rowan stood across from me. He had discarded his shirt, showing the bandages wrapped around his chest and shoulder. Even injured, he looked like a god of war. His silver eyes were focused on me, tracking every breath I took."You have the power of a God, Kaima," Rowan said, his voice echoing against the rocks. "But right now, you are like a child with a loaded gun. If you don't learn to aim, the kickback will kill you before the enemy does.""I saved you, didn't I?" I snapped. I was restless. The Beast inside me was pacing, its claws scratching at the walls of my mind. It wanted to hunt. It wanted to find Damon and rip his throat out."You saved me by accident," Rowan
