Chapter 4: Roslyn's POV

I laid on the floor, the room suffocating. The smell of burning candle, hungry men clothed as reasonable.

I laid on the platform, my hands held together by iron chains that pierced into my school anytime I tried to free myself.

My whole body was in pain from all the punishment and humiliation I had to go through in the dungeon but I had nowhere to go.

Today would decide my fate. Not that it would be any better. It would be moving from one hell to another.

Dozens of wolves say around the mean in rows, their wolf scent obvious in the air.

Blue eyes, black eyes, golden eyes, they all stared at me like I was a form of object that they wanted badly. Another item to add to their collection.

“Gentlemen,” the auctioneer's voice cut through my thought. “Tonight, we present a very exquisite item. A woman of noble birth, yet broken. She would be sold to the highest bidder. Yours for the taken.”

Laughter filled the whole room. I felt mocked and humiliated at the same time. Was this how my life had turned out?

I wasn't a princess, a mate. I wasn't even worth being called a human. I was an object in their eyes.

A tall man with scars on his face rose from his seat and cleared his throat. “I'll start at ten thousand gold,” he said, with a mocking smirk on his face while he stared down at me.

Ten thousand? That's how much I was valued. Maybe I could plead with Dane to forgive me, for him to step in but I knew he wouldn't.

I heard another voice. “ Twenty thousand,”

My wolf howled out. She wanted to break free but I pressed my hands against the chain.

I wasn't going to give them the satisfaction they craved. I wouldn't.

“Thirty thousand,” another alpha voice rang.

Another said forty.

The number rose as different Alpha's called their prices. I tried to hold my sobs.

My knees were weak and trembling.

I wanted to disappear from here. From the world entirely.

“FIFTY THOUSAND,” the auctioneer announced.

This was my life now, that's how much I was worth in the eyes of everyone here.

“Two hundred thousand,” I heard someone say. The room went silent.

I turned to look at who it was. Everyone's eyes were on him before mine got to him.

He was seated at the shadowed corner of the hall. His presence was commanding even from a distance.

I couldn't quite see his face properly. Tears welled up in my eyes, so everything was completely blurry.

The other alphas gasped, some chuckling nervously, others looked in disbelief. The auctioneer blinked, he was probably taken by surprise.

“Two hundred thousand gold! An impressive bid, sir!”

I was confused.

Two hundred thousand? I couldn’t understand what was going on.

My body was filled with fear and confusion. Why was someone bidding so high for me? Was this better or worse?

I caught a glimpse of him and it was the same man as before.

He leaned back, his eyes still on me, and a smile formed on his lips.

My wolf sensed danger. There was power radiating from him, and it was suffocating.

Another Alpha wanted to top his bid but he raised his bid. The room went silent again.

Here I was, being offered as if my very existence could be bought with gold.

The auctioneer cleared his throat. “Do I have Three Hundred thousand?”

No one moved.

With all the tension going on with the bidding, the silver eyed man gaze never left me.

I felt a shiver running through my spine. My wolf was howling in protest.

What does he want? I thought to myself.

Is he saving me, or is this something worse?

“Let the record show,” the auctioneer said, “that the highest bid stands at one hundred thousand gold, by the gentleman in the corner.”

The hall became restless. Whispers began to circulate but my mind wasn't on them. My focus was on the man by the corner, the chains on my wrist and the fear that was all over me.

He rose from his seat, walking towards the front. Each of his movements commanded some kind of fear.

He moved towards me, his eyes fixed on mine. I tried to look away but I couldn't.

“You,” he said softly. It was almost like a whisper but loud enough for me to hear.

“Are you harmed?”

Harmed? I blinked.

My body was in pain, my wrists were bleeding, my pride shattered.

I didn't give him a response.

He leaned closer to me, his eyes scanned the bruises and cuts that covered my body. “Interesting,” he murmured. The words caught me off guard. “Very interesting.”

Something about him was wrong, yet I couldn’t look away.

The auctioneer finally called, “Sold! To the gentleman for three hundred thousand gold!”

My chains clinked together as the guards led me dow

n from the platform.

My legs were weak, my head was spinning, and my heart kept pounding.

I moved towards the outer edge of the territory, and then a scent hit me.Blood.It was sharp. And it had this metallic smell. It was fresh.I froze for half a second. I didn't want to accept what was in my mind.No. No, no, noI forced myself forward.Warriors stood gathered in a wide circle, their backs tense, No one spoke. It was like they were guarding something.“Move,” I said, my voice quieter than I expected.Their heads turned. And when they saw me, they have way.I stepped in and then I saw him.Marcus.Or at least what was left of him.My stomach twisted violently. He lay just beyond the boundary line, his body half-hidden in the tall grass. His clothes were torn, soaked in dark, drying blood. Deep gashes of blood ran across his chest and arms, jagged and brutal, like he had been ripped apart rather than simply attacked. His eyes were wide open. He was ripped apart.A silent breath left my lips when I stumbled back slightly. This wasn’t just any kind of kill. It was slau

I remembered the first time she said it, I almost ignored her.“I don’t like this,” she said quietly.I leaned back on the desk, watching her carefully. “Don’t like what?”She hesitated. “How I always feel someone is watching me.Like I'm always watched.”I followed her gaze toward the forest beyond the estate walls. There was nothing there. At least… nothing I could see.Still, I didn’t answer immediately.Roslyn wasn’t the type to imagine things. Atleast not anymore from what I've been seeing. Not after everything she had gone through. Not after the way her powers had begun to evolve.“What exactly do you feel?” I asked, my tone calm. She turned to me, her green eyes unsettled. “It’s not just a feeling. It’s like…” she struggled for the right words, “…like something is searching for me.”That made my jaw tighten slightly.I pushed myself off the desk and walked toward her, my footsteps was slow. “You’re still adjusting to your abilities,” I said, keeping my voice steady. “Your se

Somewhere in another part of the world. It was far from the false peace Luciano had clung to.Here, power was not inherited. It was taken. It was ripped from the throats of those too weak to hold it and I had taken mine.I stood at the center of my war hall, unmoving, my hands clasped behind my back as I stared at the map carved into the table before me. Territories marked in blood. Borders redrawn through war.I had built everything I had brick by brick.Everything had been earned. Every inch of it had cost lives.“Do you remember,” I said quietly, my voice cutting through the stillness, “what this land looked like before I took it?”No one answered. They weren't meant to. They knew better.Slowly, I lifted my gaze, scanning the warriors stationed along the edges of the hall. None of them met my eyes. There was movement near the far entrance that caught my attention.I didn’t turn. But I knew who to expect.“My Alpha,” his voice came, low.He stepped forward before dropping to one k

Roslyn.I had never had much interest in someone's story. Not even when bloodlines were at stake. But this was Roslyn.Roslyn.A girl who should not exist.A girl whose bloodline had been wiped from history.A girl who stood before me with auburn hair catching firelight like molten copper and eyes green they seemed to glow.I was about to uncover those secrets. The file lay in front of me.It was too thin.I frowned, flipping through the paper again, scanning the pages for the third time as if something new might appear.Nothing.Just the same piece of details that weren't useful to me.Name: Roslyn ValeBirthplace: UnknownParents: DeceasedCause of death: UndeterminedGuardianship: Transferred at age sixI exhaled slowly.“This is incomplete,” I muttered.A knock came at the door.“Enter.”The door creaked open, and Richard stepped inside, tall, broad-shouldered, his dark cloak brushing against the floor. “You sent for me, Alpha.”I slid the file across the desk toward him. “Explai

“I’m not telling you.”“No?”My voice came out quiet at first.Like it was fragile.“I’m not accepting that.”Luciano didn’t react immediately. He stood there. He stood there watching me trying to predict what I would do next.“You don’t get to decide that,” I continued, louder now. “You don’t get to stand there and act like you’re protecting me while keeping me in the dark.”“I’m not”“Yes, you are!” I snapped, cutting him off.“Roslyn”“No,” I said again, shaking my head. “No more of that. No more half-truths, no more silence, no more ‘you’re not ready’ excuses.”I stepped closer to him this time.“If there’s something about me that’s dangerous, something that could hurt people, then I deserve to know,” I said, my voice was steady. “Because whether you like it or not… I’m the one living with it.”His jaw clenched.I didn’t back down.“Tell me the truth, Luciano.”For a long moment, he said nothing.“You’re pushing for something you don’t fully understand,” he said finally.“Then he

“Roslyn,” his voice was low. “Breathe.”I didn’t realize I was trembling until he tightened his grip slightly.“I am breathing,” I whispered, but how my voice sounded betrayed me. It was cracked.“No,” he said quietly. “You’re panicking.”My jaw tightened.“I’m not panicking.”“Then why is your heart racing like you just ran for miles?” he countered.I swallowed hard.I wanted to just open my mouth and say all there is to say. That maybe it was because I was scared.Because I didn’t understand what just happened. Because I didn't understand myself. But I didn’t say any of that.Instead, I pulled my arm out of his grip, taking a step back. I didn't know why I felt like the distance between us was necessary because I would have felt strange again.“I’m fine,” I insisted.Luciano didn’t move. His dark eyes stayed locked on mine.“I’ve seen panic before,” he said. “You’re trying to suppress it. That’s worse.”I didn't know why but A small laugh escaped my mouth before I even could stop
