The chains around my hands felt heavier than ever. Each step I took reminded me that I was still nothing more than a possession even after the auction.

Even as I stood here in the new estate, in the presence of the mysterious Alpha who bought me.

I was expecting nothing different but the whole surrounding was cold.

The corridor was silent. Too silent.

The guards that were with me didn't speak, didn't laugh nor did they mock me or look at me disgustingly the way the last ones did.

Their eyes were fixed, professionals. Their grip was firm but careful enough not to hurt me.

It was new to me. I would say almost considerate but I pushed the thought away.

I shouldn't be fooled. They were probably just being cautious. Their real character would show sooner or later.

I kept my head down, letting my long hair fall over my face.

I didn't want them to see the fear that was evident in my eyes.

My wolf, my instinct screamed at me to fight, run to resist. Anyhow I could, so I could rescue myself. But it was of no use because I had no where to go.

Suddenly, I could feed his presence. He had an undeniable force that came with his presence. It made me straighten my back slightly.

The corridor opened into a grand hall. I held my breath while I took in the size of the room.

The marble floors were polished enough to see a reflection of yourself. The reflected light from the massive chandelier above us.

The walls were painted in gold. It was beautiful, unbelievably so. But my eyes were drawn to the figure standing at the far end of the room.

Luciano Stark.

I remembered his name from the whispers at the auction. I had been scared to call his name,to look at him.

He was seated in a high-backed chair, his silver eyes scanning over me with a look that was impossible to read.

He was calculative. Every move I made seemed to be measured by his gaze.

I had expected cruelty and threats of punishment. Instead, he just watched. And the more he watched, the silence was louder.

Roslyn,” he said finally, his voice low. His voice wasn’t commanding. But it carried weight. “Do you know why you’re here?”

I swallowed hard. My lips trembling. “I… I think so,” I whispered, barely audible. “Because I was… sold… to you.”

He leaned back slightly. “Correct,” he said. “But it is not just because you were sold. You were brought here for another reason.”

I swallowed again. “Another reason?” I asked, my voice shaking.

“Yes,” he said, rising from his seat.

His movements were controlled and calculated. Every step he took towards me made the space between us smaller and thinner.

He stopped few feets away. He scanned my body. His eyes on the bruises on my body.

He tilted his head without saying a word.

“You’ve been treated poorly,” he said, quietly. “More than anyone should endure. And yet… you’ve survived.”

I blinked. Survived?I… I have no choice,” I whispered. “Everywhere I go, every Alpha… they only see me as weak, as property. That is all I am.”

His gaze remained on me, intense.

Property,” he repeated.“No. You are not property. You are not theirs to break or sell.”

Not theirs? I have never heard such words before.

I wanted to know what was going on. Before I had the chance to respond, he turned to his guards. I heard his voice.

Sharp and commanding.

“Remove her chains. Carefully. She is not to be harmed.”

I couldn't believe my eyes. It was all happening in front of me but I still couldn't believe. No one had ever spoken to me like that before.

Was this some kind of trick? Maybe a test?

The guards stepped foward. I stood examining the chain while the other stood by to assist. Each click was heard and indeed I didn't feel any pain.

Finally, the chains fell to the ground. I rubbed my wrists, they were red and sore.

I didn't want to feel like this but I felt a slight hope in me. But I couldn't trust them enough. This could be some kind of trick.

Luciano stepped closer, his silver eyes on mine.

“Do you understand, Roslyn?” he asked softly. “You are no longer at the mercy of wolves who see you as weak. You are here… under my protection.”

My lips parted in a quest to speak out actual words but they were stuck.

I wanted to speak, to know what would happen next. Since I wasn't his slave. What was I doing here?

Good,” he said, nodding once. “Then listen carefully. You will follow my rules. You will obey the house. You will not try to escape, not because I demand it, but because it is the only way for you to survive.”

I nodded slowly still unable to utter any word.

“And now,” Luciano said, turning to the guards, “escort her to her quarters. Treat her well. Any harm to her, and you will answer to me.

No one will ever touch her again.”

The guards hesitated for a moment. They looked at him, then at me. I swallowed hard.

One of them stepped foward and gestured for me to follow him. He guided me though the hall into the corridor.

I dared to lo

ok back at Luciano. He was still watching. His gaze was still on me.

Something wasn't right.

I moved towards the outer edge of the territory, and then a scent hit me.Blood.It was sharp. And it had this metallic smell. It was fresh.I froze for half a second. I didn't want to accept what was in my mind.No. No, no, noI forced myself forward.Warriors stood gathered in a wide circle, their backs tense, No one spoke. It was like they were guarding something.“Move,” I said, my voice quieter than I expected.Their heads turned. And when they saw me, they have way.I stepped in and then I saw him.Marcus.Or at least what was left of him.My stomach twisted violently. He lay just beyond the boundary line, his body half-hidden in the tall grass. His clothes were torn, soaked in dark, drying blood. Deep gashes of blood ran across his chest and arms, jagged and brutal, like he had been ripped apart rather than simply attacked. His eyes were wide open. He was ripped apart.A silent breath left my lips when I stumbled back slightly. This wasn’t just any kind of kill. It was slau

I remembered the first time she said it, I almost ignored her.“I don’t like this,” she said quietly.I leaned back on the desk, watching her carefully. “Don’t like what?”She hesitated. “How I always feel someone is watching me.Like I'm always watched.”I followed her gaze toward the forest beyond the estate walls. There was nothing there. At least… nothing I could see.Still, I didn’t answer immediately.Roslyn wasn’t the type to imagine things. Atleast not anymore from what I've been seeing. Not after everything she had gone through. Not after the way her powers had begun to evolve.“What exactly do you feel?” I asked, my tone calm. She turned to me, her green eyes unsettled. “It’s not just a feeling. It’s like…” she struggled for the right words, “…like something is searching for me.”That made my jaw tighten slightly.I pushed myself off the desk and walked toward her, my footsteps was slow. “You’re still adjusting to your abilities,” I said, keeping my voice steady. “Your se

Somewhere in another part of the world. It was far from the false peace Luciano had clung to.Here, power was not inherited. It was taken. It was ripped from the throats of those too weak to hold it and I had taken mine.I stood at the center of my war hall, unmoving, my hands clasped behind my back as I stared at the map carved into the table before me. Territories marked in blood. Borders redrawn through war.I had built everything I had brick by brick.Everything had been earned. Every inch of it had cost lives.“Do you remember,” I said quietly, my voice cutting through the stillness, “what this land looked like before I took it?”No one answered. They weren't meant to. They knew better.Slowly, I lifted my gaze, scanning the warriors stationed along the edges of the hall. None of them met my eyes. There was movement near the far entrance that caught my attention.I didn’t turn. But I knew who to expect.“My Alpha,” his voice came, low.He stepped forward before dropping to one k

Roslyn.I had never had much interest in someone's story. Not even when bloodlines were at stake. But this was Roslyn.Roslyn.A girl who should not exist.A girl whose bloodline had been wiped from history.A girl who stood before me with auburn hair catching firelight like molten copper and eyes green they seemed to glow.I was about to uncover those secrets. The file lay in front of me.It was too thin.I frowned, flipping through the paper again, scanning the pages for the third time as if something new might appear.Nothing.Just the same piece of details that weren't useful to me.Name: Roslyn ValeBirthplace: UnknownParents: DeceasedCause of death: UndeterminedGuardianship: Transferred at age sixI exhaled slowly.“This is incomplete,” I muttered.A knock came at the door.“Enter.”The door creaked open, and Richard stepped inside, tall, broad-shouldered, his dark cloak brushing against the floor. “You sent for me, Alpha.”I slid the file across the desk toward him. “Explai

“I’m not telling you.”“No?”My voice came out quiet at first.Like it was fragile.“I’m not accepting that.”Luciano didn’t react immediately. He stood there. He stood there watching me trying to predict what I would do next.“You don’t get to decide that,” I continued, louder now. “You don’t get to stand there and act like you’re protecting me while keeping me in the dark.”“I’m not”“Yes, you are!” I snapped, cutting him off.“Roslyn”“No,” I said again, shaking my head. “No more of that. No more half-truths, no more silence, no more ‘you’re not ready’ excuses.”I stepped closer to him this time.“If there’s something about me that’s dangerous, something that could hurt people, then I deserve to know,” I said, my voice was steady. “Because whether you like it or not… I’m the one living with it.”His jaw clenched.I didn’t back down.“Tell me the truth, Luciano.”For a long moment, he said nothing.“You’re pushing for something you don’t fully understand,” he said finally.“Then he

“Roslyn,” his voice was low. “Breathe.”I didn’t realize I was trembling until he tightened his grip slightly.“I am breathing,” I whispered, but how my voice sounded betrayed me. It was cracked.“No,” he said quietly. “You’re panicking.”My jaw tightened.“I’m not panicking.”“Then why is your heart racing like you just ran for miles?” he countered.I swallowed hard.I wanted to just open my mouth and say all there is to say. That maybe it was because I was scared.Because I didn’t understand what just happened. Because I didn't understand myself. But I didn’t say any of that.Instead, I pulled my arm out of his grip, taking a step back. I didn't know why I felt like the distance between us was necessary because I would have felt strange again.“I’m fine,” I insisted.Luciano didn’t move. His dark eyes stayed locked on mine.“I’ve seen panic before,” he said. “You’re trying to suppress it. That’s worse.”I didn't know why but A small laugh escaped my mouth before I even could stop
