Serena’s POV

Usually, there was the constant hum of life here in the stables . hooves clopping against the ground, stable hands whistling, the rustle of hay being moved from one stall to another. Today, I heard almost nothing.

The only sound was my own boots pressing into the straw-strewn floor as I walked in. My steps were slow, careful, because the air felt… strange. Heavy.

I’d come to check on Ari’s pony. That was the only reason I was here. But the moment I stepped inside, I felt like I had stepped into something I wasn’t supposed to see.

The smell of hay and horse filled my nose, but there was another scent too. A faint mix of perfume and something more human sweat, maybe. Close contact. I couldn’t quite place it, but it tugged at something deep inside me.

I passed two empty stalls. My eyes adjusted to the dim light, broken by thin beams streaming through the wooden walls. That’s when I saw them.

At the far end, half-hidden by the partition, stood Mir

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 53

Serena’s POV It still felt like a dream, one I kept expecting to wake from. I kept waiting for the sound of her voice calling my name, telling me I had overslept, but it never came. My mother was gone, her life stolen, and the person who had done it was still out there, walking around, breathing, living theirs as though they had not destroyed mine. I wanted to scream until my throat tore apart, to shatter the walls with the sound, but instead I stood in the hall surrounded by the same faces I had seen every day, wondering which one of them hid the truth. Kael’s voice cut through the thick silence, sharp and unrelenting. “Everyone who had access to the east wing between noon and three will answer my questions. One at a time. No exceptions.” The security guards stood in a line against the far wall, stiff and unreadable, while the maids huddled together with their eyes lowered as though even a blink might condemn them. My fists were clenched so tightly the pain sank deep into

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 52

Serena’s POV The house was too quiet when I came back. Not the ordinary kind of quiet that lingered after Ari’s tutor took him away for lessons, but a silence that pressed against the walls as if it was holding its breath, waiting for me to notice. I climbed the stairs slowly, already picturing a long shower to rinse the garden soil from my hands, maybe even a nap if the weight in my chest allowed it. I reached for the door, expecting the familiar click of the lock, but it wasn’t there the door was ajar, tilted just slightly, as if someone had stepped through without caring enough to close it again. At first I thought maybe my mother had come in to fetch something, but when I whispered her name into the hallway, the air swallowed it and nothing answered back. A strange chill rippled across my shoulders, yet I pushed the door open anyway. The sight broke me before my mind could even shape it into sense. She was lying on the carpet, one hand near her face as if she had tried

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 50

Serena’s POV The sound of laughter and music filled the great hall. The long tables were covered with food roasted meats, fresh bread, bowls of fruit that glistened under the candlelight. Wolves from all over the pack had gathered to celebrate. The reason? Mirah’s new baby boy. He was swaddled in silk, sleeping peacefully in her arms as she sat at the high table. Every time someone came to congratulate her, she smiled wide and called him “the heir.” My stomach twisted. From where I stood at the edge of the room, I could see her, her gold hair shining in the light, her eyes bright with pride. She looked every bit the queen of this place. And in her arms, the child everyone had come to honor. But he wasn’t the only son Kael had. My own boy my Ari was nowhere in sight. He was with one of the nannies, tucked away in the far wing of the mansion. No seat of honor. No feast. No one calling him heir. The knot in my chest grew tighter with every passing minute. Someone br

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 49

Serena’s POV He picked me up that cool evening and told me we were going for a ride. That we didn’t have to talk or do anything more like he already knew what I was going through and just wanted to do something for me. Little did he know how much I needed this. I didn’t ask where we were going. I didn’t even care. The silence in the car felt different from the silence at home. This one wasn’t heavy or suffocating it was lighter, almost gentle. The windows were down, the night air rushing in, carrying that salty tang from the sea even though we hadn’t gotten close yet. Kael didn’t fill the space with useless words. He just drove. One hand on the wheel, the other resting loosely against the leather of the armrest. His jaw was relaxed, eyes forward, like he had all the time in the world. Like the world wasn’t falling apart inside me. The city lights blurred behind us as the roads stretched wider and emptier, and I found myself leaning back against the seat, letting the wind lift

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 48

Serena’s POV I had been thinking about him again, though I hated myself for it. The thought had slipped in quietly that morning what if I went searching for him, what if I finally demanded answers after all these years? I almost laughed at myself for even considering it, because I had spent a lifetime convincing myself I didn’t care. Yet here I was, folding the thought over and over like an old wound that refused to heal. So when the knock came just before sunset, sharp but not loud, my first thought was strange and bitter at once I went to the door, already bracing myself, and when I opened it, one of the pack guards stood stiffly in the corridor. He held out a white envelope as though it were dangerous, his expression caught between respect and unease, like he didn’t know if he should bow or simply run. “For you,” he said quietly, and when I reached out to take it, my hand froze in mid-air because of the name written across the front. “Elias” Talk of the devil. Not j
