Kael’s POV

The fever started before the moon had even set. One moment she was asleep against me, her skin damp but calm, and the next her whole body burned like fire was trapped inside her. I tried waking her gently but her eyes barely opened, glazed and wet, and her lips moved with words that didn’t come out. I called for the doctor before I even had time to think.

Elder Alaric I had called for help didn’t come of course he wouldn’t but the pack’s Doctor , arrived with his satchel of roots and dried herbs that smelled like smoke and earth. He didn’t waste time looking at me or questioning why I’d brought a human this far, he just pressed his palm to her forehead and frowned, muttering under his breath like he’d seen this before.

“She burns too hot,” he said, voice gravelly. “The mark fights her. The body resists what it doesn’t understand. It may pass, it may linger. It all depends on her strength now.”

I hated the way he said it, like she was already half gone, like all I

Serena The fever had broken, but something else replaced it something hotter, deeper, crawling under my skin in ways I didn’t understand. I lay against Kael’s chest, listening to his heartbeat. The sound was steady, strong, but his body was tense, like he was holding himself back even as he held me. Light seeped through the curtains, soft and pale. I stirred, sore but warm, wrapped in tangled sheets and Kael’s arms. His chest rose and fell steady behind me, his breath slow against the back of my neck. I lay still for a long moment, afraid to move, afraid to break the fragile peace. The memory of how last night had ended, of how his hands and mouth had claimed me completely, wrapped tight, almost painfully, made a shiver run through me. My pulse quickened just from the thought. My body still ached from the night before, but it wasn’t pain it was proof. Proof that it had been real, that I was his in every way now. Carefully, I turned in his hold. He didn’t stir. His lashes cast

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 77: A Luna without a wolf

Serena’s POV The next day came sooner . My chest hurt from how fast my heart was going. Every step felt heavier the closer we got to the circle. Kael’s hand stayed locked around mine, firm and steady. I didn’t know if he was holding me up or holding me down. It wasn’t a big crowd. Just a few elders, some wolves who had been curious to see if I’d survive this, and those who wanted to judge. Their eyes followed me like knives. Some curious, some waiting for me to fail. Kael never looked at them. His gaze was fixed ahead, like he didn’t care who was here, only that I was beside him. Elder Rhys lifted his hand. “Tonight, under the full moon, the Alpha takes his mate. A human.” The word hit me hard. Human. Like it was dirt in his mouth. My knees trembled, but I forced my chin up. I wouldn’t bow. Not now. Kael squeezed my hand once before letting go. His voice was low, steady, meant for me. “Just breathe. I’ve got you.” I nodded, even though my throat was dry. I could feel

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 76

Serena’s POV I let out a long breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding. My chest felt lighter, though nerves still fluttered underneath like restless wings. Today was here. After everything after pain, rejection, doubts, and that terrible letter today had finally come. The house was alive with noise. Doors opening and closing, footsteps rushing across the floors, voices carrying in every direction. Some were cheerful, excited, laughing as they worked to set things in place. Others whispered in corners, voices sharp and clipped, carrying judgment no matter how low they thought they spoke. I stood still at the top of the stairs for a moment, my hand resting on the railing, letting it all wash over me. This was my day. Our day. Kael had told me not to let the letter get to me. The ugly words scratched across the paper still haunted me when I closed my eyes, but he had promised we were safe. “Nothing will touch you or Ari while I’m breathing,” he’d said. His voice had been stea

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 75

Serena’s POV The voices reached us before the doors did, sharp and certain, each word thrown like a stone. “…a Luna who cannot shift is no Luna at all.” “…he is blind with desire. He endangers us all.” “…the Goddess will judge him.” Kael didn’t pause. His hand clamped around mine, solid, unyielding, his pace steady even as the noise thickened. The doors swung open beneath his push, crashing against the walls. Every voice inside died. Dozens of faces turned toward us, rigid with shock or rage. Elders at the long table. Betas and advisers scattered near the back. They’d gathered without him, and now they’d been caught. Kael didn’t bow, didn’t greet. He led me forward until we stood at the center, the silence pressing hard against us. One of the elders finally rose. Alric. His voice carried, sharp as a whip. “You shame yourself, Alpha. You bring her into this chamber as if parading a crown she does not deserve.” Kael’s head turned slightly, eyes cutting to him. “Y

  • Rejected then Claimed by the Alpha   Chapter 74

Serena’s POV The apartment was finally quiet. For hours it had been filled with Ari’s chatter, the kind that bounced from one thought to another, each word tumbling out before he’d finished the last. He had told me about the new toy car Kael brought him, about the storybook he wanted to read twice, and about how the ring on my finger looked “like the kind queens wear.” He had asked if that made me a queen, and when I’d laughed, he’d frowned like I was hiding the answer from him. Now he was asleep, his small body tucked under the blanket, one arm stretched out as if even in dreams he needed to reach for someone. I leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead, breathing in the faint, sweet smell of soap still clinging to his hair. His lashes were dark against his skin, his lips parted, soft with the careless trust only children could hold. I stood there for longer than I should have, just watching him. Sometimes I wondered if he knew how much strength he gave me without tryi
