Elara’s POV.

The next morning marked exactly two weeks since I had stepped foot in Kaden’s home.

Two weeks since I’d arrived bruised, broken and burning with nothing but revenge.

Now… I was still burning only this time, I knew how to control the fire.

My muscles screamed as I drove my fist toward Kaden. He caught my wrist.

I twisted beneath his grip, swept his legs and shoved him backward. He stumbled a few steps before regaining his balance.

Progress. A week ago I wouldn’t have man

Now… I was still burning only this time, I knew how to control the fire. My muscles screamed as I drove my fist toward Kaden. He caught my wrist. A week ago I wouldn’t have managed even that, a proud smile tugged at his lips. “Better.” I pressed a hand to my chest dramatically. “Was that… a compliment?” “It was an observation.” “So you admit I’m improving.” “I admit you’re becoming slightly less terrible.” I gasped, “Luna!” I called toward the porch. “Did you hear that? Your guardian just insulted me.” Luna giggled around a mouthful of bread swinging her legs as she did, “He likes you.” She sang. Kaden nearly choked, “I tolerate her.” He murmured“Su

Elara’s POV Three days, three days was all it took for Kaden and me to disagree about almost everything. “You were late.” I glanced at the sun. “By five minutes.” “You were late.” “It’s five minutes.” “It only takes five minutes to lose a fight.” I sighed dramatically. “It must be exhausting being you.” “No.” “It must be exhausting being around you.” Kaden didn’t even blink. “Stretch.” I rolled my eyes but did as he said. “This is exactly what I mean.” “What?” “You don’t know how to have a normal conversation.” “I do.” I looked at him expectantly. He looked back. “…Well?” “I’ve already had one.” I stared at him for a second before laughing in disbelief “You’re unbelievable.” “So I’ve heard.” I muttered something under my breath as I bent to touch my toes. “What was that?” “I said you’re very… dedicated.” “You lied.” “I did.” He nodded like he didn’t want this to continue “I know.” I couldn’t help smiling “You know, most pe

Elara’s POV I woke to the sound of a soft knock on my bedroom door.“Miss Elara?” Miriam’s voice came from the other side. “Lord Kaden is waiting for you in his study.”I sat up and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. The room still felt unfamiliar despite how comfortable the bed had been. For a second, I forgot where I was. Then everything came rushing back, Kaden, the estate, the deal I’d made.“I’ll be there in a minute,” I called. After washing up and changing into a simple outfit Miriam had left for me, I followed her through the long hallways of the mansion. The estate was just as impressive in daylight. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows, lighting polished marble floors and paintings that looked older than anything I’d ever seen. We stopped outside a pair of dark wooden doors.Miriam knocked once, just once while leaning her ear to the door “My lord, Miss Elara is here.”“Come in.” His voice was calm as ever.Miriam pushed the door open and stepped aside for me.Kaden sat b

  • Rejected not broken   Chapter six

Elara’s POV The morning air carried the crisp scent of dew as I stepped onto the front porch with a single duffel bag slung over her shoulder. For the first time in weeks, I wasn’t running from something. I was walking towards it, willingly. Behind me, the front door creaked open. “You don’t have to look so miserable,” Adelaide teased, leaning against the doorframe with her arms folded. “You’re acting like Kaden is taking you to your execution.” I forced a smile. “Who says he isn’t?” Adelaide laughed, the sound warm enough to ease some of the tightness in my chest. “If he wanted you dead, he wouldn’t have agreed to help you.” “That isn’t exactly comforting.” “No?” Adelaide arched a brow. “Trust me, that’s practically a declaration of affection coming from him.” “I still don’t understand why he agreed” I frowned. “You don’t need to.” “I think I do.” Adelaide’s expression softened. “Some people don’t explain themselves until they’re ready.” Before I could ask a

Elara stared at the small card resting on the bedside table. Kaden. She had almost thrown it away the day he gave it to her. At the time, she had seen no reason to keep the number of a man she barely knew. Now, it felt like the only door left standing. She picked it up, tracing the neatly written digits with her thumb before reaching for her phone. “This better be worth it,” she murmured under her breath. The first ring came almost immediately. The second stretched longer than she expected. By the fourth, she was convinced he wasn’t going to answer. “…Hello?” His voice was low, rough around the edges, carrying the unmistakable tone of someone who didn’t appreciate unexpected calls. Elara straightened instinctively. “It’s Elara.” There was a long silence before the voice on the other end spoke up. “I know who it is,” Kaden finally replied. “I don’t save numbers I don’t intend to remember.” She swallowed, “I need your help.” He paused again before as if thinking

  • Rejected not broken   Chapter four

Elara’s POV Sunlight streamed through the curtains, warming my face. For a moment, I panicked thinking I was late for pack duties before the events of yesterday came rushing in the ceremony, Kevin, the rejection the tears it all felt unreal, like I had woken from a nightmare. A slow smile tugged at my lips. I couldn’t remember the last time I had slept so well, no whispers, no mocking laughter, no dreams of Kevin, just peace. The realization made something warm settle in my chest. Maybe Mrs Bennett was right, I would be safe here. A soft knock interrupted my thoughts. “Come in.” The door opened. Adelaide stepped inside carrying a tray. “Good morning, sleeping beauty.” I glanced at the clock, a yawn escaping my mouth, my eyes widened. “It’s noon!” She shrugged. “You were exhausted.” She said unbothered and set the tray on the bed. The smell of pancakes immediately filled the room, my stomach growled. I looked at her sheepishly . Adelaide laughed. “You real
