Winter’s POV

The days blurred into one another, stitched together by the same restless thrum inside my chest—my wolf pacing, whining, clawing at me whenever I tried to ignore her. She wanted him. She wanted Tyron. No matter how much I lectured myself that I was fine, that I was strong enough to keep him at a distance, her longing bled into mine until it became unbearable.

So, I went back to the dungeons. Again. And again.

Of course, it was never truly alone. My dad had been clear: if I wanted to see him, I would not step foot into that corridor without a guard, and most of the time, Aria insisted on coming too.

This time, Aria walked beside me, arms folded, lips pursed in that older-sibling way that said she was already judging me. The guards trailed a step behind us.

Aria skipped a step beside me as we headed down the hall, her arms swinging like she was enjoying this far too much. The guards trailed behind us, their boots echoing on stone.

“Don’t look at me like that,” I muttered.

The hallways felt longer than usual, like the packhouse was stretching itself out to delay me from reaching the inevitable. My palms were damp, heart tripping in uneven beats, every step ringing with the stupid weight of what I was about to do.“Just breathe,” Aria whispered beside me, but she wasn’t calm either—her hands twisted in the hem of her sweater, her brows knitting. She hadn’t agreed with me, not really, but she was here. A quiet witness.Dad’s presence was already humming through the house before I even saw him. That endless, dominating pressure in the air that always reminded me he wasn’t just Dad—he was Alpha, and more than that, god-wolf. The kind of being you didn’t argue with unless you were ready to be scorched down to your bones.I caught sight of him through the open archway into the study. He was at his desk, broad shoulders hunched slightly as he looked over maps and reports. A storm brewing in human form.“Go on,” Aria nudged me, but her voice was quieter now, ne

  • Rejected Me Once, Never Fool Me Twice   Chapter 38

Winter’s POVThe cell door clanged shut behind me, the sound sharp enough to rattle down my spine. I told myself it was only the iron echoing, only the air humming with the memory of his voice—but no. It was him. His words, sly and careful, threaded under my skin long after he’d gone still against the stone. If only I could breathe fresh air, just for a moment. If I could remember what the sun feels like, maybe I wouldn’t forget I’m still alive. That was what he’d said. Or close enough.I shouldn’t have cared. I shouldn’t even have listened. But my heart had thudded in a way that made my throat tight, my palms restless. And the worst part? He’d said it looking at me as though the whole plea, the whole fragile wish, was wrapped in my hands to grant.“Winter, you’re being quiet.”Aria’s voice snapped me back. She walked at my side as we left the dungeon corridor, her braid bouncing against her back. The guards followed at a distance, boots crunching against the uneven stone, but I barel

Tyron’s POVThe dungeon was quiet again, save for the usual drip of water and the shuffle of the guards stationed too close for comfort. I’d learned to map their movements by sound, to mark the seconds between their weight shifts, even the subtle clink of their swords when they adjusted their belts. Everything mattered down here — every tick of time, every angle of the walls, every tiny tell that might later turn into an advantage. But then came the lighter steps, the rhythm I’d started to expect — softer, hesitant, dragging like she didn’t want to admit how much she wanted to be here. Winter. And right behind her, the irritating patter of her sister’s quicker steps. Aria. Always tagging along now, like a shadow with too much energy. Zander’s orders. My jaw flexed at the thought. The god-wolf alpha was paranoid, but not wrong. He knew what I was capable of. He just underestimated how good I was at playing a part. The door groaned open. My head snapped up, hair falling across my face j

Zander's POV The moon was high, silver light spilling across the forest like a blessing I didn’t feel worthy to claim tonight. From my office window, I could see the treeline, the place where the wards shimmered faintly against the dark. We’d kept the pack safe for decades—through wars, through famine, through the gods’ trials themselves. But I wasn’t sure we were ready for this.My daughter’s mate. Tyron.A man with blood on his hands, a history written in violence, and a wolf that didn’t know the meaning of submission. A man I should have had executed the moment they dragged him into my territory in chains. And yet… the bond had chosen him for Winter.I hated the mate bond sometimes. It could be the gods’ gift or their cruelest joke, depending on the day. And this? This felt like a test I never asked for.I leaned back in my chair, rubbing a hand over my face. The wolf in me snarled every time Tyron’s name passed through my thoughts. Not because I feared him—but because I feared wh

Tyron's They moved me to a different cell three days ago.Bigger. Cleaner. A cot that didn’t smell like damp rot. Even a shower, though the water pressure was about as forgiving as a weak rainstorm. Clothes, too—dark sweats and a plain shirt. It was a calculated kindness, which meant it was a warning in disguise. People like Zander didn’t do favors without sharpening the knife first.I wasn’t stupid. They weren’t giving me comfort out of pity. They were softening me up for something.Still, I took every scrap they offered. Ate every meal. Let the guards see me quiet, cooperative. They needed to believe the fight was bleeding out of me.But I didn’t lose the fight. I banked it.And now, sitting on the cot with my elbows on my knees, I felt the thin thread of the mate bond tug—hard. My head snapped up. The air changed, electric and sharp. She was close. The sound of footsteps on stone grew louder. A second later, she appeared. Winter. Her hair caught the dim light like it was spun o
