Athena's POV

The first thing I notice when I step into the kitchen area is the smell.

Fresh bread. Roasted meat. Herbs simmering somewhere in the outside kitchen.

For a moment, I simply stand there with Augustus in my arms and let the familiar scents settle around me. There is something comforting about them, something that reminds me of mornings and evenings spent here when I used to live here.

I have spent a year away from Blackridge, yet somehow the place still feels familiar.

Athena's POVThe first thing I notice when I step into the kitchen area is the smell.Fresh bread. Roasted meat. Herbs simmering somewhere in the outside kitchen. For a moment, I simply stand there with Augustus in my arms and let the familiar scents settle around me. There is something comforting about them, something that reminds me of mornings and evenings spent here when I used to live here.I have spent a year away from Blackridge, yet somehow the place still feels familiar.A she-wolf spots me from across the room and freezes. Her eyes widen before her face breaks into a smile."Luna."The word carries across the room, and within seconds, another familiar face appears from the kitchen.I smile softly as she comes toward me.She reaches me and immediately looks at Augustus."Oh, look at him."Her expression softens completely."May I?"I shift Augustus slightly in my arms, and she carefully touches his little hand."He is so beautiful."The warmth in her voice makes me smile.Mor

  • Rejecting My Alpha   Chapter 21

Dimitri POVThe first thing I want to do is question Athena. There are too many things I need to know. Too many questions that have been waiting inside me since the moment she walked into Blackridge carrying our son.But I am not reckless. One wrong question. One wrong word. One moment of anger, and she could decide that Blackridge is no longer a place she needs to remain. She is here for a week.Seven days.I can use seven days.So I keep every question behind my teeth and give her the space she needs to stay without feeling cornered. It takes more restraint than I am accustomed to.Especially when my wolf keeps reminding me that my son is only a few walls away.I notice him everywhere.Sometimes it is the faint scent of him drifting through the corridor after Athena passes. Sometimes it is the sound of a soft laugh carried from the packhouse. Sometimes it is simply the knowledge that he is somewhere inside the same roof as me.My attention shifts toward him before I even realize I a

  • Rejecting My Alpha   Chapter 20

Dimitri's POVMy wolf wants to see his pup.The need has been there since the moment I saw him. It has grown stronger with every second Athena has been inside the packhouse, separated from me by walls and a decision I have no power to change.I want to follow her.I want to walk inside and see Augustus again.I want to know what he looks like when he is close enough for me to see every small detail of his face. I want to hear his voice. I want to know whether he will look at me again. But Athena's cold attitude is clear. She made her position known the moment she called me Alpha Romanov.Whatever she intends to give me, it will not be easy.My wolf knows it too.He wants to push past every boundary she has placed between us.I hold him back.A soft scoff comes from beside me.Without even looking directly I know it is Gemma. Her eyes are fixed on the packhouse entrance, and there is something ugly in the way her mouth twists. She moves closer until she is beside me."After a year," sh

  • Rejecting My Alpha   Chapter 19

Dimitri's POVI cannot move.My body has forgotten how.My wolf is howling inside me, the sound so powerful that it seems to fill every part of my chest. Around me, the Blackridge wolves are still recovering from the instinctive submission that passed through the courtyard. Heads remain lowered. Shoulders are tense. Some of them look toward one another as though they are trying to understand what their instincts have recognized before their minds could catch up.I understand. At least, I understand enough. The pup in Athena's arms is mine.My pup.The words keep repeating inside my head, but they still feel too large to fit inside a single thought.Athena shifts him slightly against her chest. The movement draws my attention back to them.As if sensing my gaze on him, he turns his face toward me.For one brief second, our eyes meet. Those bright eyes look directly into mine.Something in me reaches for him.My wolf surges forward with such force that my hands tighten at my sides. Then

  • Rejecting My Alpha   Chapter 18

Dimitri's POVMy wolf is particularly restless today. I know why. I have known since the moment I woke up and felt the morning sitting differently from every other morning of the past year. Something is coming. My wolf understood it before I allowed myself to think it clearly.I am looking out the window of my office and watch Carter below in the courtyard, briefing our warriors and dividing them into groups. He moves efficiently, assigning patrol rotations so the borders stay covered even while the training sessions run. Every group has its instructions. Every patrol knows its route. The warriors listen closely, their attention fixed on Carter as he explains the changes to the schedule. My gaze moves across the courtyard, taking in familiar faces and familiar movements. Blackridge has continued functioning for the past year. Training has continued. Patrols have continued. Council meetings have continued. The pack has eaten, worked, laughed, argued, celebrated, and mourned.Everything

  • Rejecting My Alpha   Chapter 17

Athena's POVThe morning light falls across Asher’s office in pale gold as I turn another page of the training schedule. The council’s decision came through only a few hours ago, but Silverwater has already begun preparing. The rogue situation has been building for weeks, and every new report has made one thing clearer. These creatures are different from the rogues we have fought before. They move differently. They attack differently. They are stronger in ways that catch even experienced warriors off guard.Mutts.That is what everyone has started calling them. The name is ugly, but it fits what they are.I scan the schedule again, taking in the names of the packs, the proposed training sessions, the rotation of warriors, and the locations chosen for each exercise. Silverwater has already agreed to lead the training because we are one of the few packs with actual experience fighting them. Actually, only Asher and I have fought them, and then later trained our warriors.Asher sits acro
