Eutychus
Eutychus Brown was a force to be reckoned with. As the captain of the Nightfall Pack's army and next in line to be Alpha, he commanded respect and fear from his fellow packmates. He was a skilled warrior and strategist, known for his cunning tactics and fearless leadership in battle. But despite his admirable qualities, Eutychus held a deep-seated grudge against Alaric, his half-brother. They had grown up attached to the hip and he had always felt like his younger brother was stronger than him.
However, that did not bother him because Alaric would never be next in line for he was an illegitimate child. At 21, when his wolf presented, Eutychus was surprised to discover that his half-brother was actually a hybrid. He was confused at first but then a part of him was glad that his brother wasnt as perfect as he carried himself and when it was time to send him packing, Eutychus did not bat an eyelash, now his father had the perfect son, the perfect heir.
However, his father never stopped comparing him and always referred to ‘The freak would have done a better job’ or ‘Why did he have to be a freak’ whenever Eutychus did not meet the Alpha's standards. He despised Alaric and the fact that even as an outcast, he still lived as his brother's shadow and so, he did his best to prove himself the best. He was determined to defeat Alaric and claim the title of Alpha proudly and at any cost. This burning ambition often clouded his judgment and led him to make questionable decisions such as not wanting to be paired with some random omega as his mate.He had refused his first pairing vehemently so he could focus on his duties. His dad had nodded his head in approval.
Despite his reputation as a strong and capable leader, Eutychus kept a dark side hidden from the rest of the Pack. He was manipulative to a point of cruelty and despite not wanting to be tied down with an omega, he sure didn't mind using them to satisfy his needs. using his charm and influence, he was able to manipulate those around him for his own gain.
On his 30th birthday, his father began the succession topic with him, finally acknowledging that Eutychus should start settling down and a mate to help run the pack with him when the time came for him to take over.
This would be an easy task for him since he already knew how to woo women, the only problem was he did not want a woman he had toyed and played with, neither did he want those overly ambitious omegas that wanted to change their social status and for that, he had the perfect candidate. His father had set him up with a blind date to start with.
The omega in question was a wealthy girl that had no reputation. She was mostly on the sidelines and would be the best pick for a mate. He saw Isadora, the daughter of a powerful Pack leader- Rhys Smith who owned a couple of successful establishments in Nightfall, and saw her as a valuable asset in his quest for power. He chose to pursue her, believing that she would be easy to manipulate.
After a few dates, he found out she was a recessive Omega, a fact that his father had dismissed saying times had changed and there was nothing money couldn't fix. He had no plan to start looking for other alternatives given he had slept with a good number of unmatched Omegas and none seemed to fully quench his thirst in the bedroom, perhaps something, someone different was what he needed and so he set up a second and even a third date. On the fourth date, he asked her to move in so they could see how things went.
“Why don't you… move in?I want to make you mine before anyone else snatches you away. ”Eutychus had said on the date, flashing the smile he knew would work like magic, it always did and when Isadora blushed, he almost laughed at how easy it was to please her.
“Really? You don't think it's too soon? ”Isadora had asked and Eutychus grinned, she was trying to play hard to get, and if there was anything he was good at then it was hunting.
“There’s no such thing as too soon, he has been on what, four dates now, you are now my girlfriend, Dorry.” Eutychus played his charm card once again and yet again, Isadora smiled and blushed, her pretty face getting red under the light canopy of fairy lights he had set up for their date.
“I'll let my father know…” Isadora said, her eyes gleaming with delight. Eutychus got lost in her eyes for a hot minute before he focused on his meal.
After the date, he had one of his guys drive her home when he was driven back to the Villa.
“Sir, Darrian is back. ” his driver had said to him as they drove back.
“Great, the annoying diplomat is back,” Eutychus said, loosening his tie, irritated. He hated Darrian just as much as he hated Alaric. The Beta was too proud for nothing. While Eutychus’ strength was unmatched in the field, his negotiation skills were close to nothing. That is why Darrian was sent to mingle and interact with the big names.
"Did you know?" The driver asked and Eutychus scoffed.
"That she was his rejected mate? Of course, I did. I want to bring him a few pegs down and I will use anything and anyone. It's not like she will be my Luna anyways, or maybe she will. We will have to see." Eutychus replied as the front gates were opened. He saw the two black cars with the pack's insignia branded on the rear windows and knew Darrian was inside.
"Look what the dog dragged in, get it? dog not cat?" Eutychus said as he barged into his father's study room. He flashed a smile, hiding his disdain for Darrian with a bad joke when their eyes met. He relished in the annoyance that oozed off of Darrian and wanted nothing more than to rile him up.
"Glad you could join us, how did your date go?" His father cut in, giving him a look that he pretended not to see.
"Awesome, you didn't tell me she was such a hottie. Darian, whatever possessed you that day?" Eutychus said, hoping Darrian would catch on to the hint, but the man was either dumb or good at playing.
"What? What are you -" Darrian replied. "Alpha, may I be excused?" Darrian added and off he was, not sparing Eutychus a single glance.
"You know, he is a good candidate to be your beta. Try to get along with him." His father said once they were alone.
"I am sure there are others more skilled in that area." Eutychus couldn't help but bite out. No way that arrogant wolf would be his Beta.
"Maybe I should rephrase, he will be your Beta. Get along with him, you have a lot to learn from him." His father said, more like threatened and all Eutychus could do was nod in agreement.
They spoke more about Pack stuff as well as his future but Eutychus couldn't help but seethe with anger, yet again his father had treated him like a second choice, but soon he would prove otherwise. They would know how much of a better Alpha he was.
First, he needed to win the omega's heart, but that would only be possible if he did not let his ambition and personal vendetta become his undoing. And if he could keep his 'Good Guy' mask on for long.
It truly was the manifestation of rejection's Ire and desire's flame as Nightfall fell under a dark cloud. Darrian's reign of terror had begun to truly manifest. Pack members suspected of treason, harbouring rogues or anything that did not go according to Darrian’s regime, vanished without a trace and were replaced by Darrian's loyalists. Fear and suspicion choked the once vibrant pack. Those who had fallen for his smooth speech of wanting to protect what was theirs, now wondered if perhaps they had made the wrong choice, but they couldn't air out these suspicions, not if they wanted to go missing. Meanwhile, Isadora languished in her gilded cage, for she was nothing more than a caged wolf, waiting for her master to choose her fate. The luxurious room felt like a prison, the bars forged from Darrian's cruelty. Regina, his ever-present shadow, taunted Isadora with tales of Eutychus' "weakness" and the impending glory of Darrian's new era. She had always hated Isadora and given their p
Alaric couldn't take his eyes off the baby in his arms. As soon as his daughter was placed in his arms, he had become a new person, no. The moment he heard her cry, something in him changed. The risks he was willing to take to protect his Pack were nothing compared to the absolution and conviction to protect his daughter. There was literally nothing he couldnt do for her and that thought scared him. He went back to the conversation he had with Kierran and realized that if anyone or anything threatened his little girl, there wasn't anything he wouldn't do to ensure her safety. Nothing at all. “What will you name her?” Dianne whispered, too tired from the whole birth ordeal, for a second there, Alaric was scared she wouldn't be able to pull through. “Asa, that is the first thing that came to my mind when I heard her scream. Pick her second name. ” Alaric said, moving closer to Dianne so she could be closer to their pup. “ Wilde…. Asa Wilde. Because she will be the one to heal us all”
Alaric paced restlessly along the Genesis border, the whimper from a suffering wolf a constant thorn in his side. He focused, pushing his senses further, the fragmented images that returned painting a horrifying picture. Someone was calling out to him. Suddenly, Kierran burst into the clearing, his face pale and etched with worry. "Alpha, we have some news… bad news." Alaric's heart plummeted. His mind raced to Dianne, his mate, and their unborn child. Had something happened to them?"What is it, Kierran?" Alaric's voice was a low growl as he started walking towards his home. “Fuck! ”Kierran took a deep breath. “It's Nightfall, Alpha. Darrian… he's overthrown Eutychus and their Luna … she's been captured.”A wave of anger crashed over Alaric. The ambition that burned within Darrian had always been a threat, but this blatant betrayal transcended Pack politics. It threatened the fragile peace between Genesis and Nightfall, a peace Alaric had strived so hard to maintain. But amidst the
Isadora awoke to a suffocating darkness. Panic clawed at her throat as she realized her eyes were bound with a rough cloth. Disoriented and bound to the bed, she tried to piece together the fragmented memories of her day meeting with Genesis Pack Luna. She tried releasing her claws in a half shift, anything that would assist her in setting herself free from the bindings and blindfolds. A sharp laugh sliced through the silence. "Finally awake, Sleeping Beauty?" The voice, laced with venomous amusement, sent a shiver down Isadora's spine. The blindfold muffled her vision, but she could sense someone approaching. "Who's there?" she demanded, her voice trembling slightly."Oh, don't worry, Luna," a voice dripping with sarcasm replied. "It's just Regina, here to welcome you to your new… accommodations as per Alpha Darrian’s request of course." Isadora's breath hitched. Regina, a constant thorn in her side. What did she have to do with this? She felt Regina approach, and seconds later the
Things in Nightfall were changing slowly under everyone's nose rather, people couldn't tell the shift in power within their pack. One night, the pack's enforcers were doing their regular patrols along the pack borders and the next, they were surrounding the Alpha’s residence, no one could tell whether it was for protection or assault. Another group of enforcers surrounded the council hall, with all the important members of the pack in it. “What is the meaning of this, Darrian, care to explain why was- ” an elder, angry and almost red in the face spat but he was pushed back to his chair forcefully. “I don't recall asking you to speak. '' Darrian sneered at the elder as he moved up to the Alpha’s designated seat, taking his time to look at the shocked faces of those in attendance. Once satisfied, he pulled out a wad of papers from his suitcase with the Alpha's seal. He put the items on top of the conference table and yet again let his eyes wander around the room. “Ladies and gentlem
“Did he admit? ” Dianne asked Alaric when the nightfall Luna had left. “Yes and no. Darrian claims that he did it under Eutychus’ orders. I didn’t believe him. My Half brother may be arrogant but never this stupid. Something is off.” Alaric said he couldn't shake off the daunting feeling he felt when they were in the office with Darrian. He was impressed with how Kieran had managed to keep his emotions in check and hadn't jumped on Darrian as soon as he walked through the Pack borders. “So where do we stand? You know I will support you through whatever you choose.” Dianne said, standing up to stretch a little. “It will depend on how they take my message from today's meeting. This isn't really about the assets my mother left me. It's more of control and power. Eutychus feels threatened, and I am not about to sit and let him think he can walk all over us.” Alaric said. “Oh I just wish they would try us… it's been a minute since I-” Kierran stopped himself from finishing the sentence
Isadora Saying those words out loud felt foreign to her. It's not like she had never thought about them but rather that was all they were supposed to be, meaningless thoughts. And now Darrian, the man at the center of it all, had made her speak those words, giving them life and truth… desire even. She looked away from Darrian’s almost silver eyes and focused back on staring outside the window. The trees were more interesting than this conversation. ‘Why in the blue moon did I call him mate?’ Isadora chastised herself as the car ride proceeded with no response from Darrian. “What if, I could give you - ” Darrian seemed to have found his voice but Isadora couldn't let him finish. Dreams were one thing, but promises?“This is not the time for ‘what ifs’ Darrian. You rejected me and I chose Eutychus. I am your Luna and you serve me as my Beta. We made our choices.” Isadora replied. There was nothing Darrian could give her right now other than his loyalty as her Beta. Darrian did not sa
Today was one of those days Darrian hated the most. They had a briefing right before lunch and after that he and Eutychus would be heading to the casino for business. He sat in the large conference room and waited for Eutychus to arrive. Isadora always came in later. However, this time it was she that arrived first and took the usual seat, one that was away from both he and Cas. “Afternoon, Dora.” Darrian cleared his throat and said his greetings. “Afternoon. ” she gave her single worded response, Darrian hated it. He wanted to hear her speak, laugh get angry or even release that intoxicating scent. “Are you guys still having your couples fight? Whatever it was about, deal with it quickly, your brooding attitude is suffocating.” Darrian said the only thing that came to his mind, hoping to rile her up and get some kind of reaction from her. “I don't see how that is any of your business. '' she glanced up from her tablet and fixed her gaze on him, just like he had anticipated. “Whe
To say Darrian had fucked up would be an understatement. He may have just started a war between Nightfall and Genesis packs. Alaric’s pack may have been in its infancy stage but the power they held was enough to make him worry. He sprinted back to Nightfall's territory, using a back route that had a stream. He bent down and washed the sweat off his skin and the remainder of the scent blocker he had on. He found his car where he had parked it and drove back to the ceremony. He would use the time to come up with an excuse because he would be getting questions since he had missed a bigger part of the ceremony. He couldn't erase Leo’s petrified look from his mind, the way he had begged for his life and how mercilessly he had been knocked out. There was no telling what the future for Leo was but Darrian knew he would be tied to him. It wouldn't be long before Alaric would seek vengeance and he would. He pulled up at the pack gates and drove straight for the ceremony. He could still hear t
