Chapter 13

My mother couldn’t sleep. She stood up, thinking about where she would get the hospital bill. She was totally disturbed. I watched her think about it until I dozed off.

It’s morning now, and the sunrise was so bright it blinded my eyes.

I didn’t know when I fell asleep, and not knowing it was morning,

I cleared the gunk that accumulated in my eyes with my hands because of the bad night's sleep.

I saw my mom still as she was last night, and I bet she didn’t have enough sleep; it’s got me worried. I guess I should tell her about it.

I can’t afford to lose her, not now that she has fully recovered.

"Are you still worried about the money?" I asked her. She fixed her eyes on me. The look in her eyes was so dark.

"I will stay here and work for one month and stump the money. I have thought about it," she said.

I guess that’s why she didn’t have a good night's rest. Her eyes were puffy. Maybe she cried too.
