Chapter 8 - It Wasn't Her Role

Without making a noise she closed the door. She's no longer Clayton's wife so she has no right to make a ruckus. It's Lizzy's role anyway.

Speaking of Lizzy, she came as soon as Emerald turned her back. Lizzy didn't notice her as she was busy answering a call while making her way to Clayton's room.

Lizzy stood rooted on the floor upon seeing Clayton being hugged by a woman while he slept.

"What are you doing here?" Her loud voice woke up Clayton.

The antihistamine Clayton took made him sleep soundly and wasn't aware that Shannon came in the middle of the night.

Clayton was so shocked that he froze and was unable to push the woman hugging him.

Lizzy pulled Shannon's hair making Shannon fall from the bed. Lizzy took advantage of it and sat on Shannon's body while slapping her. "You whore!"

Fully awake, Shannon fought back. As a woman who was used to manual work, Shannon was strong and agile, hence she overpowered Lizzy.

She flipped Lizzy around and was now on top, reversing the situation. Shannon was now the one slapping Lizzy.

Seeing that Lizzy was in disadvantage, Clayton got down from the bed and picked Shannon by the collar and threw her on the floor.

In pain, Shannon curled up in the corner.

Clayton picked Lizzy in his arms and put her on the bed. He brushed away the hair covering Lizzy's face to inspect her face.

The red marks on her face fully covered Lizzy making her look pitiful. Clayton gritted his teeth. He was like a volcano that was about to explode.

He turned to Shannon, his eyes bloodshot. "You dared to hit her?"

He witnessed how Shannon treated Emerald yesterday. His blood was boiling as he thought that Shannon would do the same thing to Emerald.

Looking at his countenance, Shannon could tell that he was so angry that Clayton would tear her with his bare hands.

Little did Clayton know, Emerald saw everything through the half opened door.

Emerald didn't want to be entangled in the drama so she left hurriedly.

To see how Clayton cared for Lizzy, Emerald felt pained. Clayton had never even once shown his care for her. He was cold and unfeeling towards her.

"Clayton, who is she?" Lizzy asked weakly as the hospital guards took away Shannon.

"A lunatic who escaped from a mental institution," Clayton said and took his phone from the side table to call his assistant to process the discharge papers.

After the drama in the hospital, Shannon could not do her tricks any more as Clayton employed bodyguards so that Shannon couldn't come near him.

"You called for me?" Red asked and leisurely sat on the couch.

"To have a good judgment about a person, meeting her once isn't enough. Although she seems to be wild and not compatible for you, I have to observe her for three months before passing on my judgment," Clayton made it sound like he wanted to be fair to Emerald.

As a matter of fact, it's just his clever plan to ensure that he could see Emerald if not daily at least a few times a week.

A morsel of Emerald's time would suffice his starved heart.

"So you have to create opportunities for the three of us to meet on a regular basis," Clayton tightly concealed his emotion by wearing a cold expression and speaking flatly.

Desperate to get his cousin's approval, Red didn't think it through and agreed to Clayton.

"Okay," Red left in a good mood because Clayton overlooked the incident and didn't blame Emerald.

When Red was in his office, he dialed Emerald's number.

A giddy feeling blossomed in his heart, he was confident that it wouldn't take too long before he could convince Clayton to give his blessings so he could pursue Emerald.

"Hello, Red," came Emerald's soothing voice. Red enjoyed listening to her voice unlike other women who speak in annoyingly high pitch that gave him the feeling that his brain was being drilled.

"Did I disturb you?" According to the background noises coming from the other line, Red knew that Emerald was practicing in a simulator.

"Nope," Emerald happened to have finished the final lap when the phone in her pocket vibrated. "What's up, why did you call?"

"I'm afraid you'll forget my handsome face, let's have dinner," Red chuckled.

Emerald rolled her eyes and laughed out loud, "Oh really, I wasn't aware."

"Let's meet for dinner tonight and you'll see how handsome I am," he was a little tense that she might actually find him unattractive.

"I'm sorry, Red. I'm really busy now," after what she saw in the hospital, Emerald didn't want to have a connection with Clayton again.

Somehow she still felt uncomfortable seeing her ex - husband's caring side directed to another woman.

If she was willing to admit it, she's pained to see the affection she craved from Clayton was only reserved for Lizzy.

But, Emerald was proud to admit that she still had that lingering feeling for Clayton hidden in her heart.

Red was frustrated that Emerald turned down every invitation he made.

"Where does she stay? Haven't you visited her place yet?" Clayton patted Red when he told him that Emerald was avoiding him.

"Seymour Residences has a very strict policy, visitors are not allowed to enter without prior notice from the unit owner," Red rubbed his face with his palm in frustration.

Clayton didn't want to sit around and wait for Red anymore. He has to make a move and have his woman back.
