Clearly, Zane had dropped all pretenses, openly claiming what he had long aimed to snatch from me. The gentle facade was gone, replaced by disdain and resentment. His face betrayed how long he had been “putting up with me.”

Simon, having gained everything from me, looked down at me with contempt. “You’re such a failure.”

Pulling out his wallet, he tossed two hundred bucks at me and spat, “Leave this instant! Don’t ever come back here again.” The disrespect stung, especially coming from someone who had once showered me with praise and treated me with respect.

I said nothing, picking up the money and my discarded belongings before turning to leave. With so little money at my disposal, I surely couldn’t afford an apartment. I ended up settling for a cave to shield myself from the gusting wind and heavy rain. Luckily, my hunting skills remained intact despite the passing days, and I depended largely on what I could catch for my meals.
