“Come in,” I said at the knock on my office door.

Caleb stuck his head inside, placed a plate of cookies down in front of me and sat down. His aura was conflicting, excitement laced with just a little guilt. He looked expectantly at me so I took one of his cookies and bit into it.

He watched me eat the entire cookie before sighing loudly. I chewed and swallowed the chocolate chip cookie down as I watched him. Caleb was very easy going, he rarely differed from a decision I made and he got along

Caleb was probably going to kill me for disappearing for a week but I’d do it all again. Caleb was my best friend but I knew he always had my back. The only thing I would’ve done differently was not go around that building with Lacey. The only thing that mattered now was tying Ilana to me in every way possible.“Let’s go home,” I said to her.We stood just outside of Griffin’s house, Sierra and Ilana talking softly to each other. Jericho was restless being away from his pack and Storm. Kai was already dreading the onslaught he’d get from Adelie. It had happened so fast that they’d just disappeared into thin air. There was a slight pressure in my chest as I said goodbye to Griffin and Damon.“You’ll always have a friend here, Christian, should you ever find yourself in my world again,” Griffin said as we hugged.“Thank you for everything,” I said. He’d proven himself a loyal friend in just a few days and I knew I’d never forget them. Kai and Jericho stood on either side of me and Ilan

I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness as blood continued to spill from my nose. This was the end, I could feel it. He was so much stronger than me, I had nothing left to fight him with. Everything inside me screamed to fight back. It was a soul numbing feeling knowing that I was going to fail her.‘What are you doing, Christian?’ Kiran asked me.‘He’s too strong,’ I said.‘Then you fight with what you have,’ he said. ‘You’re never truly alone.’His words rang inside my head as I shut my eyes and concentrated on all the magic inside me. I had a family, I had love. ‘Together we’re stronger,’ Adara said in my head as I felt myself fall to the ground. He turned around, surprise etched on his features as I stood up.My whole body was burning and I felt a pull from somewhere and mentally I tugged on that pull, pulling it towards me. A surge of power came rushing through as Gray pushed through and we shared our strength.“Mori daemonium pythonissam.” Our voices echoed in unison. Someth

His nails dug into my flank as Gray bit and shook his head with a growl. Lucian’s features were frozen onto his face in a scream that never came. Gray stood up as Lucian’s head rolled over his chest and we headed back downstairs.“Stoðva,” I said as the vampires froze and were killed off quickly. The jaguar’s growls were loud and they moved so fast that Griffin and Damon barely had time to claim any kills for themselves. In any other circumstances I would have stopped and savored the moment of victory, but Ilana was in more danger now than ever. That witch would know that we were there. I was sure of it. I’d broken his protective spells easily and the commotion from the fighting had roused all the vampires of the coven. It looked like a battlefield, discarded limbs, blood and bodies littered the mansion.I headed through another door as the line guided me towards Ilana. There was a hidden doorway behind a bookcase which we pushed aside. The tunnel was dark and even as my eyes adjusted

I kept walking, not caring that I was heading out of Griffin’s territory or that danger could lurk on the other side. I didn’t care that I had no idea how dangerous other shifters could be. The only thing that kept me grounded was following that line.“This is Lucian’s territory,” Griffin said as we stopped at the border. That faint line that I’d been following led straight into his territory and the anger seethed inside as I realized that he had known where she was the whole time. A burning rage formed and I could almost taste his blood as I envisioned ripping his throat out.I had no knowledge of how fast or strong they were. I didn’t know how they fought and even the fact that I couldn’t use my magic to its full potential in this world bothered me. I kept seeing Ilana strapped to that bed and it fueled my anger.“I don’t care who’s territory it is, I’m getting Ilana,” I said to him.“We can’t cross,” Jett said.“Then I’ll go alone,” I said as Griffin grabbed my arm.“He’s got a who

I was in a dank cave, it was hard to breathe and I felt the nausea pushing up from my stomach as I stood up slowly and looked around. The cave began to transform into a room, plush carpets appearing with bookcases and finally in the middle of the room a large chair appeared with Claire sitting there.“Took longer than I thought,” she said.“What is this place?” I asked her.“This is my little safe haven,” she said as she stood up.“I’m here to negotiate,” I said as I looked at her.“Sanguis,” she said as her eyes turned white and a bowl appeared on a table and my wrists were slashed by something invisible. My wrists turned downwards and my blood started dripping into the bowl. My wounds healed when her eyes turned back to their original green.“Neat trick,” I said as she barely even glanced at me.“Sede.” My body obeyed and a chair appeared as I sat down, my hands clasping the armrests with a will of their own. I couldn’t move my fingers and I couldn’t speak either. The words were in

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” a voice said.I had just kept walking, lost in my own thoughts, trying to figure out a way of feeling Ilana’s bond. I hadn’t noticed where I was going but I could feel the shift in boundaries. I was outside of Griffin’s territory now and about to step into someone else’s.“I wasn’t aware this was your territory,” I said as I stopped walking.“We don’t take kindly to dogs or cats crossing our borders,” he said.“It was an honest mistake,” I said.“You seem lost and I don’t mean physically,” he said.“I am,” I said.He was almost as tall as me, perfectly sculpted and the word ‘vampire’ came to mind. His skin was pale, his eyes almost black but he had a certain beauty that I was sure would draw in any human he wanted to lure into the darkness.“I can smell the dog in you but something else as well,” he said.“I should get back to where I am welcome,” I said as I turned around.“Ah, you’re a guest of Alpha Griffin.” He almost spat the name out.“Just un
