Chapter Twenty Eight

The air in the office was thick with tension as the women continued to stare at me with disbelief in their eyes. Calvin stood by my side, shrugging nonchalantly as if he didn't have a care in the world.

Kate stepped forward, her voice sickly sweet as she asked, "Is it true? Are you the boss's girlfriend?"

I felt anger boil inside of me, but I pushed it down and pasted a calm expression on my face. I didn't want to give Calvin the satisfaction of seeing me lose my cool.

"It doesn't matter," I replied, my voice firm. "I'm here to work, not for pleasure."

Kate's eyes narrowed and she crossed her arms over her chest. "Well, that's not how things work around here. We have a reputation to uphold and I'm not sure you're the right fit for this job."

Tracey, the blonde-haired woman, stepped forward. "Kate, she's here to work. Let's give her a chance."
