C04: When Patience Equals Pain [1]

"What do you think you are doing? You scared me, you tart!” Sandra said, as she messed her hair in a bid to hide the fact that she had been crying. Her eyes were swollen, and her heart was once again broken.

"Well, excuse me for coming to check out a very unpleasant horse noise in MY house. What are you even doing? You look like you were dumped from a crane and fell on a tree. You look worse than the birds, damn.

It's already bad enough that you look like a lost guinea pig and now you look like a flying duck. Fix yourself up, and meet me at dinner,” Aztec said to Sandra who just looked at the man she was so unfortunate to call her husband.

This wolf was really something. Before Sandra could give Aztec a piece of her mind, the man had already walked out, leaving Sandra feeling like she was cursed, for the hundredth time. Maybe she really was, because how else would she explain her unfortunate fate?

"God! I wish you would fall on a spike, and never wake up. Dammit,” Sandra frustratedly sighed, while she angrily wiped her tears.

She knew this was just one of the many days she would be suffering here so she would as well try and be comfortable with the pain and disdain she met with each time. But the question was, would she really make it to the end of whatever agreement this was?

"I don’t look that bad, right?” Sandra asked herself when she reached her room and stared in the mirror. She was trying to convince herself of a lie, considering the reflection staring back at her made her look worse than the descriptions the barbaric Alpha had given her.

She couldn't help but wonder how in all hell Aztec and Beatrice got along, especially with that toxic mouth of his. Maybe birds of a feather really did stick together.

Sandra stared at herself in the mirror for a few more minutes before changing out of her work clothes and taking a shower. She tried not to get affected considering they were probably thinking she was Scarlet, but damn, their words still hurt a lot.

"You look better than before,” Aztec commented when Sandra sat at the dinner table.

"The Shari ball is upcoming and I want you to organize it,” Aztec said to Sandra who just kept on eating like she didn't hear anything that he had said.

"Did you hear what I said?”

"Didn't no one teach you not to talk at the dinner table?” Sandra retorted, slamming her cutlery on the table, having had enough of people commanding her left and right.

She was a person too, and needed to be treated well. This barbaric man hadn't even tried to defend her when he heard his servants talk smack about her. So what was it that was making him think that all of this would be just fine?

'Oh, Luna Scarlet, rest in peace, in advance,’ Margery, who had been serving the table, said to herself before hurriedly leaving the room, and going back to the kitchen. She had never heard anyone talk back to Aztec like that, and this human had dared to.

"Careful how you talk to me, Scarlet. Just because you’re my Luna doesn't make a difference. I could replace you in an instant,” Aztec warned.

"I already know that. If anything, you can go ahead and replace me. That way we can both save each other time and avoid putting up without intolerable selves, no?

"As your Luna, at least I deserve the right to peaceful eating, right?” Sandra asked as she stared right into Aztec's eyes like she was challenging the Alpha. Sandra didn't know much about wolves, but one thing she was certain about, was that Alphas hated being challenged.

"Do you—”

"I agree. I’ll organize the damn Shari ball. Happy? Now if you please, let me have some time with my food before I lose my appetite, alright?” Sandra said not caring that the Alpha was already infuriated.

Frustrated, Alpha Aztec Marshall slammed his hands on the table as he walked out of the dining room, leaving behind Sandra who was trying her best to look like she wasn't the least bit bothered by everything around her.

'For Grandma. I’m doing this for grandma,’ Sandra reminded herself as she finished eating her dinner, while fully aware of the angry eyes glaring at her from the kitchen. She knew they despised her already, but they had to live with it. Well, until the Alpha decided to replace her, but until then, they were stuck with each other.

The rest of the evening, Aztec and Sandra didn't see each other. They were in their own worlds, even though Aztec had once again left to go meet up with Beatrice.

It was his only way of letting out steam since he couldn't do anything to or with Sandra. The woman was an emotional block wall and he didn't want to go down that wall. He wasn't sure what he would get there, and frankly, it was safe to do nothing right now.

The morning that followed, Aztec wasn't at the breakfast table, and Sandra didn’t even bother to ask Margey about it. She had learned the hard way that she had no allies here. She was here on a contract; one that these hopeless idiots had no clue about. She had to keep it a secret all because of her sickling grandma.

"Morning Broderick, get the car ready, I’m going to work,” Sandra said to Aztec’s driver who had been assigned to her. She wasn't going to be comfortable and call him her driver because who knew what they would do to her? She had to be high on alert with everyone around here.

"Yes Luna,” Broderick said before writing to get everything ready. In a few minutes, he was back with the car and an open door, for Sandra to walk in.
