Mag-log inTears could not stop falling from Rose’s face. She had her body thrown over Kingsley’s body. She was surrounded by men with guns in their hands and no way to save or protect Kingsley or herself. All she could do was plead. But would pleading work with heartless gang members?
The man standing at the door opened his mouth, but before even one word could come out, a second bang echoed through the bathroom.
“Noo!!!” cried Rose and wrapped her arms around Kingsley even tighter. The moment she heard a soft thud sound, she lifted her head. Even after two gunshots, she didn’t feel any pain, she didn’t see any wounds, she didn’t feel blood oozing out of her body, she was still alive. Something was wrong or was extremely right. She breathed heavily and glanced back. The two men who came to kill before were lying in the pool of their own blood.
“Huh… huh…” she kept gasping loudly.
“Boss!” shouted the man standing at the door. Rose turned her head to look at him with shock and pleas in her eyes. The tall man raised his hands and, while keeping the gun in Rose’s line of sight, pocketed it and again raised his hand to show that he was harmless.
“Bo…ss?” stammered Rose.
“My name is Emerson Chambers! He is Kingsley Aguilar. I work for him. And I am not going to hurt you or him,” he said.
“He… he… is losing blood. He needs a doctor, please!” cried Rose. She didn’t understand why she was feeling like that. Why did it bother her that a man was bleeding before her eyes? Why didn’t she want him to die? “Please help him! Please!”
“I am here to help him,” said Emerson and slowly lowered himself near Kingsley’s body. His eyes fell on the apron tied tightly around Kingsley’s arms.
“My phone! My phone! I could not reach my phone. I could not call 911,” sobbed Rose.
“It’s okay! It’s okay! We will take him to a hospital. He will be fine!” said Emerson and tapped on Rose’s hand to calm her down.
But she immediately pulled her hand back and stood up in fear. Her chest was rising and falling with her every forced breath. “I need to call 911. I need to call 911. She cannot die. She cannot die,” she cried.
“She??” asked Emerson, shocked.
“Lang! Get the car ready. Libra, Deep, pick up Boss. We need to take him to the Doctor Cannon,” ordered Emerson. He stood up and walked slowly towards Rose. “Miss! Look at me! Are you okay?”
Rose turned to look around herself. She could not believe she was standing on a street surrounded by trees, yet she felt like she was standing inside a small bathroom. She could see the washbasin, she could see the stalls, yet the trees and the street were prominent. She looked down and saw the two dead bodies; the blood had pooled on off-white tiles. He could see a faint figure laughing at her.
She glanced at Emerson walking towards her with his hands raised to his side. But there was another man coming towards her with a shiny object in his hands. Rose could not control her breathing and kept gulping for air. “My phone! My phone! I need my phone!” she kept mumbling.
“Miss? Miss?” asked Emerson and moved his fingers to touch her.
“Don’t! Don’t! Don’t! Don’t kill her!!!” she shouted and hid her face in her palms.
“What? What are you talking about?” asked Emerson and finally grabbed her shoulder.
Rose let out a loud shriek and stepped back to get away from Emerson, but she slipped on the blood and was about to fall on her ass when Emerson wrapped his arms around her and pulled her closer to himself.
“No! No! No! No! Please… don’t… killll…” her voice trailed, and her eyes started drooping. Her body went limp, and her head started falling all the way back when Emerson supported her head.
“Miss? Miss? Wake up! Wake up! Shit!” shouted Emerson and lifted Rose in his arms. “Paul! Stay here! Call Prime and Flow. Ask them to clean this crime scene and then call Sergeant Severina. She will take care of the community. Many people must have heard all the gunshots,” ordered Emerson and ran towards the car. His men had already placed Kingsley in the back seat.
Emerson secured Rose in the front seat and ordered the others to come in a separate car. He drove to the Thornspire hospital as fast as possible. He would once glance at Kingsley lying in the back seat, and next he would look at Rose, who was unconscious but sweating all over, even though the AC was on full blast.
“Who is she? What was she talking about? Why did she keep calling the boss, ‘she’? What was that about?” thought Emerson. The other bodyguards were right behind him in another car, armed with guns.
He kept his eyes on the road, looking for any men who might try to harm Kingsley further. How the local gang leader found out about his secret meeting was a mystery. Kingsley had his thoughts, but there was no definitive proof. And without proof, he could not do anything about it. He could just launch an investigation. But before all that, he had to make sure that Kingsley was out of danger.
He pressed the call button of the car and enunciated, “Call Doctor Ernesta Cannon!” Within a second, the doctor picked up the call. “Doctor! The boss has been shot. He is losing a lot of blood.”
“Where are you?” asked Ernesta.
“On my way to the hospital. Please be ready,” said Emerson.
“Tell me everything!” said Ernesta.
“Um… he has been shot in his arm. A woman tied a cloth around his wound to stop the bleeding, but I think he is losing blood. I know he ran quite a distance, and now he is unconscious but breathing,” Emerson gave his report.
“A woman? Where did he find a woman?” asked Ernesta.
“Is that important? I am bringing that woman too. She helped the boss, and then she just fainted before my eyes.”
“Did you hurt her?” asked Ernesta.
“What? Never! We never hurt innocent people! I think after hearing gunshots and seeing all that blood, she fainted.”
Rose was breathing heavily, trying to swallow her pain. Kingsley noticed every single change in her expression. She closed her eyes tightly when she felt the pain. She bit her lip to avoid groaning. She kept furrowing her brows whenever she gulped. And the way she put all her weight on his arm, he realised that she was unable to stand properly or even put her foot down.“Okay, let’s do this! You can join in the fun. You also need experience to make your bride happy. Think of her as training,” laughed goon 2.Kingsley gritted his teeth. Everyone could see his jawbone moving. “Training, huh? What if I just kill you all and keep her all for myself?” asked Kingsley, stoically.“What?” mumbled Rose, afraid, breathing heavily. She hated Kingsley for saying that. He was about to marry Vanessa and was talking about keeping another woman. But what was she expecting from a mafia leader?“Ohh! You think you can win, boy? Just hand her over, and we will not hurt you!” said goon 3.“Fine!” said Ki
Rose closed her eyes and jumped out of the window. The hedges planted around the hall looked bushy, but when she fell, the tiny branches snapped under the pressure and all the sharp edges cut through her skin. Thankfully, her feet were fine as they were enclosed in her shiny shoes. But she heard the sounds after her. She knew the attackers were coming. She still had to get away. She tried standing up, but the heavy dress was not letting her do that. She placed her hand on the ground, but a tiny stone pierced her palm, and she screamed in pain. But she had no time to lose. She moved her palm, pushed herself off the ground and stood up.The moment she stood up, her ankle shot a leg-shaking pain. “Ahh!!” she cried in pain. It was then she realised that she had hurt her ankle when she jumped, but all the tiny cuts over her leg were not letting her feel that. But she had no time to waste. She had to run.She dragged her foot behind her and started running. The full skirt was making it diff
Rose took a deep breath and closed her eyes. She stood before the mirror, all dolled up. For more than three hours, she was a statue. She just stood, sat, turned left, turned right, and obeyed every order from the make-up team. They pampered her like a princess. They kept calling her Vanessa, but she didn’t mind at all. She just kept her mouth shut and replied with one-syllable words if asked any questions. She opened her eyes and looked at the beautiful dress. It was the most beautiful wedding gown she had ever seen. Her own wedding gown was her choice, and she chose the best in her budget. But the dress on her right now made her look like a beautiful, dancing swan. The sweetheart neckline had a net fabric as a vest-sleeve. That made the dress look like a sleeveless dress but had support, and there was no way the dress would slip, or Rose would have to adjust the dress constantly. One thing she liked was that the dress was extremely comfortable. There were no stupid wires sticking in
“Wake up! Wake up!” whispered Seth and shook Rose to wake her up. She blinked her eyes and opened them.“What? What happened?” asked Rose, breathing heavily.“Let’s go! Let’s go! We need to go,” Seth said, agitated. It looked like he was ready to run off the earth as someone kept chasing him.“Where? What?” asked Rose and sat up.“Rosie! Don’t waste your life, don’t sacrifice your life. Please, we need to go. I will take you away from everyone. No one will be able to find you. Neither Piers nor Ursa nor Kingsley. Anyway, Kingsley didn’t want you; he wanted Vanessa. Let’s leave her to clean her own mess. Why do you have to take her place?” Seth was on the verge of crying. “What if… what if he sees that you are not Vanessa and then hurts you for taking her place. He is mafia, Rosie. I don’t want to lose you. I cannot see you throwing your life away.”“Stop! Stop! Sethie! You know why I have to do this,” cried Rose.“I know, I know, your father. You are trying to save him. But how will yo
Ring! Ring! Kingsley was deep in reading some contracts while sipping on tea when his phone rang. He looked at the clock. It was late at night. He narrowed his eyes, thinking who was calling him at that time? He looked at the screen; it was Jack. For a minute, Kingsley’s heart jumped out of his chest.Jack always sent him messages and updates; why was he calling now? Did something happen? He snatched his phone from the table and connected the call. “What? What?” asked Kingsley. He didn’t wait for any greetings.“He found us! He found us! He saw us!” shouted Jack.“What?? What are you talking about?” shouted Kingsley. Emerson came running inside when he heard Kingsley shouting.“What happened? Why are you shouting?” asked Emerson. Kingsley raised one finger, and Emerson closed his mouth immediately.“Her friend! he saw her. he approached us. Thanks to Liliana, we fooled him. But if he sees us again, I think he will know that we are keeping an eye on him,” replied Jack.“Jack! I need det
Tern looked at Fiona and nodded. She stood up and knocked at Ursa’s door. She could hear some whimpering from inside, nothing more. “Ma’am? May I come in?” asked Tern.“No!! No!!!” shouted Ursa urgently. Her sobs, her sniffles were now getting louder. Tern opened the door slightly and peeked in. Her eyes widened in shock. Ursa was sitting on the floor with her legs spread, and she was shaking like a lone leaf. The blue carpet underneath was soaked. Tern looked at Ursa’s face, which was also wet with tears and ran inside.“Ma’am! Ma’am! Are you okay? Do you need help?” shouted Tern and stood when she got a whiff of the smell of urine. She backed up immediately and closed her nose. But after seeing the pitiful condition of Ursa, she crouched down and softly patted Ursa’s shoulder.“Ma’am! Let me help you. Tell me what you need? Did those people hurt you? Do you need me to call Roger?” asked Tern.“No! No! Call no one! Are you stupid? Do you want people to see me like this? How idiotic ar
Kingsley’s eyes flickered, and he opened them. He grabbed Rose’s hand and again said, “Rose!” and finally lost his consciousness.“No, no, please, please, wake up! Wake up!” sobbed Rose. But she made sure that the pressure on Kingsley’s wound was tight. She was not letting even a drop fall from the
The moment Kingsley was at the back of the bakery, he heard the bell of the door. He knew someone had entered the shop. He had to act fast. He knew he must not die. He had to live. He had to find the love of his life. He had to get rid of his mortal enemy. He had to live for his people. He tilted h
Rose stretched her arms and pulled her blanket closer to her neck. She shifted to her side and, while keeping her eyes closed, yawned loudly. She knew she woke up even before her alarm could go off. She was too excited to go back to sleep. All night, she kept dreaming about Piers. She had finally s
Emerson was driving the car and kept giving the reports about patients lying in his car to the doctor.“Maybe the shock was too much. Okay, I will get everything ready. When will you reach?” asked Ernesta.“Five more minutes!” said Emerson and sped up the car. “You know his blood group, right?”“I
