LOGINEmerson was driving the car and kept giving the reports about patients lying in his car to the doctor.
“Maybe the shock was too much. Okay, I will get everything ready. When will you reach?” asked Ernesta.
“Five more minutes!” said Emerson and sped up the car. “You know his blood group, right?”
“I said I will get everything ready, and before you arrive, everything will be ready. Just get here!” snapped Ernesta.
He parked the car with a jerk near the emergency area of the hospital. An average-height, curvy woman dressed in brown scrubs came running towards the car with a large convoy. All the nurses and doctors dressed in yellow isolation gowns surrounded the car, and one of them opened the door. One nurse entered inside the car and lifted Kingsley as fast as possible. They put him on a stretcher and wheeled him inside.
“This is my friend, David May. He will attend to that woman. We will take care of both of them, don’t worry!” said Ernesta.
Emerson ran behind the nurses and the doctors and saw them wheeling both Rose and Kingsley into separate rooms for preliminary tests. He didn’t know what to do, where to go. He just knew that he was not allowed inside the rooms where the doctors were working. He stared through the window and saw Ernesta cutting into Kingsley’s clothes. All his clothes were bloody now.
The moment she cut into the tied apron, the blood started oozing out. A nurse pressed a gauze on the wound and tried hard to stop the bleeding. Another doctor was working on getting an X-ray of Kinsgley’s arm. They had to find out how much damage they were dealing with. Emerson’s heart was beating out of his chest. He just wanted Kingsley to be alright.
A lot of people were working on Kingsley, one was covering his head with a hairnet, one was draping his body with cloth, one was looking for his vein to insert the IV, one placed the cardiac patches on his chest. Everything was happening so fast that it made Emerson’s head spin.
The next second, everyone started wheeling Kingsley out of the room. He wanted to ask what they were doing, but the other doctor came up to him and interrupted his thoughts. “Excuse me! What did you say the name of the woman was?”
“Uh… what?” asked Emerson as he didn’t hear what the doctor asked. He was too occupied with Kingsley’s health.
“The woman you brought! What is her name?” asked the doctor.
Emerson blinked once and tried thinking hard, first for the doctor’s name. he was sure that Ernesta had told him about the doctor’s name, but he could not recall it. He had to look at his name on the scrubs, but it was hidden by the isolation gown.
“I am sorry, you are?” asked Emerson.
“David May! Doctor Cannon just told you.”
“Right, sorry! So much is happening,” replied Emerson.
“How is the boss? Where is the boss?” The other bodyguards came running after parking their car.
“Everyone, stop!” shouted Emerson. All the noises, all the chaos, all the adrenaline in his system were overwhelming his senses. “Okay, one at a time! You, go!” he ordered the doctor first.
“Do you know the name of the woman you brought?” asked David.
“No, she never told me. She just fainted right before my eyes. And she was saying bizarre things. She kept calling the boss ‘she’ even though she knew he is a he. Maybe shock or something else. Do check for her eyes,” said Emerson. “But again, she was on his chest, trying to protect him with her teeny-tiny body, so I think she must have known that the boss is a he. Maybe it’s shock just like Ernesta said, but please check for her brain.”
“Okay! Anything else?” asked David.
“Um… I don’t think so,” said Emerson. David nodded and walked away to take care of Rose.
Emerson then turned around to look at his fellow colleagues. “They wheeled the boss away. They did the preliminary tests, and I think they took him to an operating room. He was losing blood. We will have to wait for someone to come and talk to us. In the meantime, please do me a favour, take this key and move the car from the emergency lane,” said Emerson and handed the key to Deep.
Deep simply nodded and walked out. When he came back, he saw Emerson and others waiting in the lobby while frantically talking on the phone. It was clear that they were mobilising their men for Kingsley’s safety. Half the men were called to the hospital, and the other half were made to scatter all through the town to find Darcy and his men.
Soon, David came to find Emerson. He placed the phone back in his pocket and stood tall. “Um… she is doing fine now. She had increased blood pressure and a high level of CO2 in her blood. All her blood tests and elevated blood pressure, mixed with her cold hands and feet, indicate that she had a panic attack. We have given her an IV. She is sleeping it off. We have shifted her to a private room. You can go and talk to her when she wakes up.”
“So, she is fine. No danger? What about her brain?” asked Emerson.
“The MRI is normal. She is perfectly fine. Maybe after seeing you all 'mafia guys’ she panicked,” said David while lowering his voice when he said ‘mafia guys’.
“You know you are not supposed to call us mafia, right? And now you have seen our faces, you work for us,” said Emerson in a menacing tone.
“I know!! Isn’t this exciting!!” David almost clapped his hands in excitement. “I will never tell anyone about you, don’t worry. I know you will kill me if I open my mouth.” David pinched his forefinger and thumb and moved his fingers over his mouth, signalling that he was zipping up. Giggling and rubbing his hands in excitement, he walked away from Emerson and his men.
“Um… that was bizarre, right? asked Lang.
“Extremely bizarre!” replied Deep.
“Okay, one good news received! Let’s hope for another one,” sighed Emerson and glanced in the direction that everyone wheeled Kingsley in. He kept fidgeting with his fingers, trying to keep his mind busy. He didn’t want to think about what was going to happen to Kingsley.
“Do we tell him?” asked Deep.
“Who?” asked Lang.
“The Boss!” replied Deep.
“The boss is in this hospital. What are you talking about?” asked Lang.
“He is talking about The Boss, Egbert Cox!” interrupted Emerson.
“Ohhhh!!!” said Lang.
“Fine! fine! I will call him. The moment we hear anything about King, I will call him,” sighed Emerson, begrudgingly.
“Good morning, Miss Woolridge! Bus today?” asked the kind-hearted bus driver with a sweet smile on his face.“Yeah, all the cars were going for maintenance,” replied Rose and climbed into the bus.“You are the only princess I know who takes the bus and runs her own business,” said the driver.“What??” laughed Rose. “Princess?? I am no princess, Jake!”“Your father basically built this city piece by piece. We all have jobs and infrastructure because of him. When he arrived all those years ago, this was just a vast land of green grass and nothing else, and now look at it,” said the driver.“Oh, come on! The whole community worked together. We are in this together,” smiled Rose and took a seat behind him.“Say whatever; everyone knows that you are our princess. By the way, why so early?” asked the driver.“Have to open my bakery, why else?” giggled Rose. She knew she was not going to the bakery to start baking for today. She was going there to work on her wedding cake. Her whole body was
Rose stretched her arms and pulled her blanket closer to her neck. She shifted to her side and, while keeping her eyes closed, yawned loudly. She knew she woke up even before her alarm could go off. She was too excited to go back to sleep. All night, she kept dreaming about Piers. She had finally said yes to him after being asked again and again. She had vowed to herself that only after her business succeeded would she get married. And that day had finally arrived. When she met with the handsome, charming Piers Austin in college, she never even dreamed that he would become her boyfriend and love her so immensely. All her life, she was just loved by her father, and then that poor man fell into a coma. Her stepmother, Ursa Hewitt, raised her only because all of the people associated with the Woolridge family knew about her.She knew that Ursa didn’t like her, but she had no choice but to raise her along with her own daughter, Vanessa Hewitt Woolridge. Rose never cared about luxuries or

Tears could not stop falling from Rose’s face. She had her body thrown over Kingsley’s body. She was surrounded by men with guns in their hands and no way to save or protect Kingsley or herself. All she could do was plead. But would pleading work with heartless gang members? The man standing at the door opened his mouth, but before even one word could come out, a second bang echoed through the bathroom.“Noo!!!” cried Rose and wrapped her arms around Kingsley even tighter. The moment she heard a soft thud sound, she lifted her head. Even after two gunshots, she didn’t feel any pain, she didn’t see any wounds, she didn’t feel blood oozing out of her body, she was still alive. Something was wrong or was extremely right. She breathed heavily and glanced back. The two men who came to kill before were lying in the pool of their own blood.“Huh… huh…” she kept gasping loudly.“Boss!” shouted the man standing at the door. Rose turned her head to look at him with shock and pleas in her eyes.
Kingsley’s eyes flickered, and he opened them. He grabbed Rose’s hand and again said, “Rose!” and finally lost his consciousness.“No, no, please, please, wake up! Wake up!” sobbed Rose. But she made sure that the pressure on Kingsley’s wound was tight. She was not letting even a drop fall from the wound. She turned to look around, but there was no one. She was alone with an unconscious body, and she had no way to help him. Her phone was inside her kitchen. If she ran to bring that back, the man before her would lose a lot of blood, and that would be life-threatening.She knew what it felt like when someone died or was on the precipice of dying. She had already lost her mother, and her father was in a coma. She had no parents. She just had a stepmother and a stepsister, a so-called family. And she knew that the man lying before her must have a family. She could feel the pain his family would feel when they would know that he was dead.Tears started streaming down her face, but she nev
The moment Kingsley was at the back of the bakery, he heard the bell of the door. He knew someone had entered the shop. He had to act fast. He knew he must not die. He had to live. He had to find the love of his life. He had to get rid of his mortal enemy. He had to live for his people. He tilted his head to look from behind a wall that safely had him hidden from everyone and saw two men dressed in black suits waving their guns all around, looking for him. Kingsley had to think of something fast. He was hurt; he could not run long distances. He had to stay put in the bakery, but he needed the goons gone. And the only help he could get was from the woman standing before him.He looked in all directions and saw the bathroom sign. He started pushing the brunette towards the bathroom, but she kept fighting with him.“Hmmm… hmmm,” her voice escaped, but thank god, it was muffled.Kingsley had this strict rule: never work in the drug business or prostitution, but arms deals, extortion, and
