LOGINThe silence between me and Desmond stretched awkwardly. I couldn't think of anything to say, not when my mind was still very much in shock and in disbelief over what happened earlier.
He cleared his throat, and I was suddenly more aware of his presence.
“I’d like to apologize for dragging you away, I should have…”
I shook my head and cut in. “It's fine.” I hate to admit it but he saved my life. “I should be thanking you instead.”
Surprise flickered through his gaze and he raised his brows. I could understand why, but a huge part of me was grateful I was out of there even though it hurts.
“I needed to get out of there at the end of the day. I could only lie to myself for so long.”
The secret we both shared laid heavy and untouched between us. But there was an understanding in the silence.
“Thank you for all you've done. I'll be out of your hair by…”
“You should stay.”
“What? No,you've already done enough. I'm going to…”
“Just stay, Isabel. For as long as you need to get yourself together. There are more than enough rooms here.”
I wanted to fight back and refuse the offer. So much was already going on between him and I, so many owed favours and it was annoying because they were all one-sided.
But the truth was I had nowhere to go and not a dime to my name. I was an unpaid slave for 3 years and now that it's all over, I have nothing to start over with.
The thought of being homeless and starving subdued my ego.
“Thank you, but I promise to be out of here as soon as I can.”
He just smiled and stood up. “My home is open to you for as long as you need it. The maids will show you to your room.”
With a quick nod, he walked away and my eyes remained fixed on his back, his very muscular back and I could only think of how the media has been wrong about all they've said about him. All, except one
He was very sexy.
Both my hands immediately clamped down on my cheeks and I shook my head as embarrassment flooded my system.
What the hell was I thinking?
Not being touched properly despite being married tends to do a lot to your brain. The last time Scott was in my bed was 3 months ago, and he was out before I could even understand what was going on.
Shaking my head yet again, I stood up and went in search of the maids. I need to take a cold shower and a very long rest.
****
Panic filled my system when I opened my eyes and it was already very bright out. I didn't even bother changing out of my pajamas before I ran downstairs.
“Why didn't Scott wake me up?!”
I was already thinking and practicing on how I would apologize when I realized how different everywhere was.
The events of yesterday came pouring into my head and I felt a mixture of both relief and an ache.
Waking up to serve the family for years gave me a purpose and a routine, now I had none.
My legs trudged towards the kitchen and the maids were already running around doing things and setting everything in order.
It didn't feel like I was needed for anything .
“Good morning, ma’am? Do you need anything? Next time please ring the bell when you do.”
I swallowed and forced myself to smile. This treatment was new and very awkward.
“That's fine. I don't need anything, I just came to see if you all needed help.”
Regret was bitter on my tongue once I said that and they all exchanged a look like I hit my head somewhere.
“The dishes,” I continued even though I should have turned on my feet and just gone back to my room, “I can help out with that. You all seem so busy with everything else.”
“No, ma’am. We will handle that much later.”
“Allow me”
I brushed past her, raised the sleeves of my shirt and got started with the dishes.
The awkwardness of my actions were heavy in the air but I pretended like that wasn't the case and just continued with the dishes, hoping they would all come around soon.
I had nothing to do and lounging around all day was not an option.
“What the hell is going on here?”
All the hairs on my body stood and my heartbeat seemed to accelerate.
I slowly turned around with my practiced smile on my face, but that immediately vanished when I saw Desmond and he looked really really pissed.
His jaw was tightly clenched and once we made eye contact, I saw it twitch.
“What are you doing, Isabel?”
My mouth ran dry, “I… umm, I was helping them out with the dishes. I just thought I'd be useful.”
Closing the gap between us in three quick strides, he grabbed my hand and led me away.
I had to run to meet up with his strides and he only stopped when we were at the door to my room, and I was already panting.
“Why are you so angry? I just wanted to help.”
“Your help is not needed there, Isabel. I have staff, staff that I pay adequately for their jobs. This is not the Blackwell house.”
My mouth opened and closed so many times but I couldn't say anything reasonable at all.
“I just wanted to help and stay busy.”
He sighed and punched the bridge of his nose. “If you want to stay busy, you can come with me.”
“To work?” He nodded and I blanched. “I know nothing about your business and what am I going to be doing there?”
“I'm heading to the farm to oversee some produce, you can learn a thing or two.”
“Really?”
“Yes.”
I felt excitement rise in the pit of my stomach but that was immediately quenched.
“I have nothing to wear.”
The corner of his lips tugged up in a smirk. “That's not a problem, you can pick something from my wardrobe.”
He held open the door next to mine and gestured inside.
My heart immediately skipped a beat, and I couldn't tell if it was the thought of wearing his clothes or the proximity of our rooms that sent a warning bell ringing in my head.
IsabelWe decided to get married at night in the garden he proposed to me in. I decided actually, and Desmond just went along with it. There is one thing I have wanted for the longest time and that was to dance with my husband beneath the night sky with the stars shining down on us.“You look so beautiful.” Cara said. She did my makeup for me and helped with every other thing, alongside Helen. They hadn't been surprised when we popped out and announced that we were going to have our wedding here in Maldives as well. They had been thrilled instead. They did the running round and all I had to do was decide from the choices they picked out.“You think?”“We know so,” Helen confirmed and my smile got wider. “Take a look at yourself and have some time, you'll soon need to walk down the aisle.” They brought the veil, then they left.Once I was alone, I exhaled softly and looked at my reflection in the mirror. I'd chosen an A line soft ivory wedding gown with very thin sleeves, it was exactly
Isabel“Has it shown yet??” I asked Desmond, who was keeping his eyes on the three pregnancy tests that I just peed on. He shook his head and I continued my pacing. We had snuck out in the middle of celebrating the wedding and my new engagement because he noticed how worried I was. He drove us to a convenience store and picked out three pregnancy kits for me to use.Now we were back in our hotel room and my mind was running amok. What would I do if it turns out that I'm actually pregnant? I placed my hand on my belly and rubbed it softly. Was I ready to be a mother? To carry a pregnancy to term? “What do you want the answer to be?” He leaned off the counter and faced me, “would you like it if it comes out positive?"“Do you want me to be completely honest?”“Always.”“I'm freaking terrified, Desmond. So very scared, I don't know if I'm ready for this… I really…” my throat began to burn from the unshed tears. “I don't know.”He pulled me in and just held me, quietly. I remained in his
IsabelWhen I heard Desmond call out for me, I stiffened, wishing I could just disappear and return to the wedding ground or maybe just have the ability to turn back time so I could go back when my mind was nudging at me to just go back inside, but I wanted to wait it out a bit more and see if I'd look and feel a bit better. That didn't turn out so well.“Isabel, what happened?” I forced myself to smile as I shook my head. “I'm fine, I just got a little emotional watching our new couple but I did not want to rain on their parade so I came out to calm down.He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at me then he shook his head. “You are not telling me everything, what happened? Why are you out here?”“I already …”“And don't lie to me, or insult how much I actually know you. Tell me what happened?”“It's ridiculous”"I still want to know”"But, I'm fine now”"Isabel, come on. Talk to me”My eyes searched his face trying to find a way to wiggle out of this. How do I tell him that I came out he
DesmondSubconsciously, my hand went to my pockets again where the ring has been in and where my hand has been reaching since the day started. Given Isabel's words yesterday, I didn't want her to accidentally stumble on it and start to feel guilty, so I decided to carry it around. The plan had been to propose after her birthday, I've had this ring for nearly a year now and it was funny now to think about. From the very beginning, even when things were unsure, I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Isabel, and when she agreed to my girlfriend proposal, I went ahead and bought the engagement ring because I knew there was no way on Earth I was going to let her go.I searched 5 different stores before I finally decided to have one made from scratch for her, something I was sure she wouldn’t mind looking at every now and then. But ever since I purchased the ring, the timing never felt right and now, it feels like it will never be right.I was not going to let Isabel go,ever, but
Isabel Cara made the most beautiful bride I'd seen in a while. It was clear that she was still a bit hungover, but it didn't cause even a dent on her.She walked down with aisle with grace I'd never seen before. And her eyes were pinned only on one person, Denzel, whose eyes have turned watery and a few teardrops manage to escape as well. They both looked so good.He immediately took her hand once she was close enough. The officiator began the proceedings and soon they were exchanging their vows.My eyes searched for and finally found Desmond across the room as they were exchanging the vows, and I found him already looking at me. His lips stretched into a smile as we made eye contact, and my cheeks heated up a bit.Last night, I said I was glad he didn't propose to me, but now, a huge part of me wished we were the ones before the altar right now exchanging our rings and vows.I was already certain he was the only one I wanted to do life with, so why did I say that?“...you may now ki
Isabel“The dress is beautiful, “ I said as I did a 360 spin in front of the mirror. We landed about 30 minutes ago in the Maldives and our first stop was at a boutique where I changed into one of the most gorgeous floral dresses I'd ever seen. Desmond already had it picked out.“How did you know I'd like this?” I asked Desnond who was looking at me and nodding his head in appreciation.“You are my woman, that should be enough explanation.” My belly fluttered at his response, getting on my tiptoes, I placed a very light kiss on his cheek.“Thank you.”“You don't have to thank me.” He wore the biggest smile on his face, “but you can kiss me a lot though.” “Don't be a tease.”He chuckled and gave me his arm. I quickly Intertwined it with mine and he led us outside, where the new Rolls Royce he purchased a few weeks ago was already waiting for us.“I'm guessing you're leading me to where the actual surprise is? what should I be expecting?”“How did you guess that?’”I rolled my eyes an
