Jessica POV It took a lot of convincing everyone to let me sit with Donna on my own. If she was awake, we would talk. If she was asleep, I would wait for her to wake. She had been abused, I knew that. And she had her choices taken from her. I would not continue that abuse. I knew what it cost when your choices and life had been taken from you. Cole walked with me to the pack hospital. We were silent as we walked. No words needed to be said. We knew this would be traumatic for Donna and for me. Seeing what another human being experienced, would be difficult. I only hoped I could stay strong enough to get what we needed. “You are the strongest person I know,” Cole murmured as he squeezed my hand. “I wish I felt the same,” I admitted. Cole stopped walking, pulling me in front of him. “Whether you get what we need or not, it takes a lot of strength to take this on. We both know Donna has endured a lot over the
Jessica POV We were racing back to where we had left. Everyone was silent in the SUV, lost in their own thoughts. We had no idea what to expect or even what the lead might produce. I knew we were going back for someone who would be surprised that they would find themselves in the middle of this confusing mess. As we entered the territory, I noticed Kendrick was getting antsy. “What is wrong?” I questioned. “It has been some time since I have been welcomed to any territory,” he admitted. “We found you on our territory,” Cole reminded him. “I was not invited,” Kendrick noted with a frown. “Consider yourself invited,” Cole mumbled, as we pulled up to the pack house. Marly and Carson were waiting at the top of the stairs, waiting to welcome us back. As we exited the vehicle, Marly and Carson came down to meet us. “What do we know?” Carson demanded, scanning the people exiting the vehicle. “Wh
Cole POV I felt for Jessica. She was suffering through the lies and secrets among people she should be able to trust. We had stepped away from everyone to give Jessica a few minutes peace. A few minutes to process all that had been thrown at her in a short period of time. I pulled her into my arms, as she wrapped her arms around my waist. “When will it all be over?” she murmured against my chest. “Soon, baby, soon,” I promised. She tilted her head back to look up at me. “How can you know that?” she questioned. “I can feel it. Like all this crap is leading us to the end game,” I shared. She looked at me, hope in her eyes, “I want to believe that. But with every turn there is a new twist,” she said with a sigh resting her head back on my chest. “Do you believe he is my father?” Jessica asked me. “As much as I can believe any of this story,” I admitted. She chuckled, “It is a pretty outrag
Jessica POV I whipped around in my seat and stared out the front window. I said nothing and nobody offered any words of comfort. What could be said? I had grown up with a bitter man, thinking he was my father. And now I find out my birth father knew who I was all along? “I only found out recently,” he commented from the back seat. “And you neglected to mention it?” Cole bit out. He was raging inside, uncertain what to make of everything that was unfolding. “I have been trying to protect her from the outside,” the man shared. “By lying to her?” Cole questioned. “There was too much coming at Jessica. We knew it was not the right time,” Susan commented. “You do not get to speak. You have been nothing but treacherous since I met you,” I stated. “Jessica, it has all been to protect you,” Susan noted. I whipped around in my seat, “Protect me? By telling me half-truths or outright lies. How
Jessica POV After reassuring Donna that we would be returning to her, I looked at my grandmother. “Are you ready?” I asked her. She growled under her breath, as she finally nodded begrudgingly. “I will do whatever is necessary to protect my girls,” she commented. I did not feel like one of her girls. She was still a stranger to me, but one we needed in order to neutralize the threat. “Who are they?” Cole asked, before we could leave the room. I looked at Donna, her lip quivering. “One is my father,” she shared. I took a step backwards. My own grandfather wanted to harm me. Well, I had to pause. He did not want to harm me. He wanted to capture me for my powers. “The second man is Alpha Matthew’s father,” Susan, my grandmother, shared. “And the third?” I asked. “The third is a man nobody truly knows. He was higher in the Wolf Council, but his identity was never revealed,” Elder Susan con
Jessica POV We were sitting once again with my grandmother. “Who are they?” I asked, getting to the point. “Who are you talking about?” she responded, looking tired for the first time since I had met her. “The people involved with taking your daughter. The people involved in the Wolf Council, with wanting to take over and use me to help them do so,” I offered. My grandmother paused for a moment, considering my question before recognition crossed her face. “You found her?” she questioned, holding her breath. I looked to Cole. We had no intention of telling her we had found my mother. We wanted to hold that information until the end of our discussion. “I need to see her. I need to be with her,” my grandmother exclaimed, trying to free herself from the silver cuffs, holding her to the table. “NO! You do not get to call the shots. You will answer the questions and then we will decide if you will see her or not,”
Jessica POV I had spent the rest of the day touring around the pack with Cole. Everything he had shown me was exciting and new. We were eating an ice cream cone, when Cole burst out laughing. “What?” I asked, confused with what he was laughing at. He leaned forward and with hi
Jessica POV I wanted to believe Cole, but I feared what would happen. I wanted to be free from this nightmare. I wanted to start looking forward to the life I hoped the Moon Goddess would believe I deserved. I sat here, feeling nervous being held in Cole’s arms.
Cole POV “Do you think there is any risk to removing whatever is inside of Jessica?” I questioned the doctor as we exited Jessica’s room. The doctor looked to me, “Somebody has made it clear they do now want her wolf to surface,” he responded. “What do you mean?” I asked seeking
Jessica POV I was so embarrassed at what I did not know. How could an adult werewolf not know what is happening to themselves, I thought? Or what were basic things even a pup would know. I cringed at how they must view me, and it motivated me more than ever to get out of here w
