It was hours later, just as the sun was setting, that we left The Stationary and rode the short twenty-minute distance to the gates of Akbur Hills. Electric fences were encircled by thick metal chains adorned with spikes. The entrance was securely shut. Akbur Hills Penitentiary was written on a depressingly half-chopped wooden sign. This is it, I thought to myself, feeling my heart drop to my knees.

Damon said, "Stay in the car," but I was already out.

"No way," I said.

With a groan of frustration, he slammed his door shut and said, "Get back inside, now."

"No." I shot him a cold look. I could no longer be afraid of him. I wasn't going to let him know how afraid I was of him.

With his face inches from mine, he hurried to stand in front of me and asked, "Do you know who I am?" He seemed to shake in anger, as though he had never been forced to repeat himself.

"I don't care who you are," I pressed. "You said it yourself; you're going to ship me off here after the baby is born, shouldn't

"Enough-""His father abandoned me here years ago, following the vampire slaughter of my entire family. It would have been better to die."There was an awkward stillness for some moments. Though I didn't know how I wanted to console the woman. Ultimately, all I could think was that this was my fate, no matter what.Emily averted her gaze, her eyes welling with tears. She covered herself with a veil of silky hair and covered her face with her hands. For what seemed like an eternity, Emily would not stop crying. I didn't know how to console her, so I didn't.I noticed a tiny tattoo of a barcode behind her ear. What does that mean, I wondered? We just waited, and Damon even seemed to treat her with some dignity. Why was Damon treating her so gently, I wondered if his father had loved her in spite of her infertility. We sat for a while till we couldn't. Tension filled the atmosphere as Damon seemed to be in a daze, he was oblivious of how to act and what to say to calm her down. I looked

In every state, there is a Stationary. Both the population and the rate of breeding are low. Finding a mortal to mate with used to take months, but a few years ago, the Model XZ was released, allowing dolls to be created specifically for the creation of Half-Bloods."Model XZ?""The process of putting mortals to sleep, for the purpose of creating human dolls.""Like me."We were silent for the remainder of the journey. He finally pulled the car to a stop outside a metal building, which was rectangular in shape. There were two guards at the main doors. "Good Morning Alpha," and nodded to show me respect. They were obviously werewolves because they both had the same tattoos. It was as though they were unaware of my presence. We strode through the automatic doors. Inside was just an elevator-filled corridor. I read over the buttons inside one of the elevators."Training grounds... cafeteria...main hall...offices...dormitories.."Damon snapped, "Keep your mouth shut," and I was at a los

Instead, I turned to face his back and massaged his shoulders with the wood-scented body wash. I gave him a gentle, slow neck rub. He needed to be able to rely on my touch and have enough faith in me to owe me a favor. I had to massage Damon's large frame one side at a time due to his bulging muscles and veins. I shampooed his hair and leaned my breasts against his back, maintaining my balance on my toes. He was submerged under the forceful shower head fall and remained still the whole time. I wrapped my hand around his waist and began to massage his torso, heading lower and lower until his hands came up to halt me. At the unexpected movement, I gasped for air and recoiled, thinking I had gone too far. Damon whirled around, a look of extreme hunger on his face and his jaws trembling. Sliding his hands to cup my jaw, he backed me into the icy marble wall. His lips were suddenly pushed to mine and his body against mine. Damon kissed with desire and aggression instead of tenderness or

Later that evening, I had dinner by myself. I snuck out into the back where a dozen cars were parked and examined them all for keys. None of them could be found. Damon resumed his routine in the bedroom. He smelled like smoke and bourbon and arrived late every night. Sometimes he caressed my thighs or my neck forcefully while I held in my breathing, other nights he didn't bother acknowledging my existence. Really, getting up every day, eating the food that the staff provided, and then just strolling around until nightfall was becoming monotonous. As usual, Damon had wandered in tonight. It was just two in the morning. He had a conversation going on the phone. Beneath the covers, I shrank."I can't be in two places at once," he murmured angrily, "I'm going to the training camp after tomorrow to check on the Hybrids and then I've got to pay a visit to Akbur Hills."The very mention of Akbur Hills made my body tense."So you take care of it, Luke. Don't bother me with these pointless que

I had taken a second shower and changed into a satin set of sleepwear. Even later, I could still feel the crawling sensation on my skin. Half-memories flashed through my mind, the topics those men had discussed at the meeting, and above all, Akbur Hills. My father was in what Damon had described as a human prison. The thought that he might still be alive made my heart thud. If I could have him live here with me for at least a few years, then this fate wouldn't be so horrible. We can run away and locate another community until Damon decides I'm no longer useful. A headache started to creep in, and I had to close my eyes to see flashes of my former existence. This time, behind a decrepit shack, it was a woman preparing bread. Several villagers lined up to exchange items with the woman, including clothes, extra food, and cleaning supplies. The woman was Maria. She was from my village, so I assumed that's why she recognized me.My poor father, who must be 65 years old now, was rotting in
