▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥

We took Tate and left Bastillo to stew in whatever mess he calls a conscience.

But before I got in the car, I made a call.

“Tail the sheriff,” I told Aaron, one of my wolves I trusted with things that mattered. “If he so much as drives to the next county, I want to know. I don’t care if he’s getting fast food—call me.”

Then I hung up and turned back to Tate, who was still coughing, still weak, still trying to act like he hadn’t nearly been choked out by a madman with a badge. We didn’t give him time to recover. I grabbed one arm, Vanessa took the other, and we hauled him to my car like the sack of shit he was.

We shoved him in the trunk. No ceremony. No seatbelt. Just a solid slam of metal on metal, and the kind of silence that made it clear he wasn’t going to enjoy the ride.

I drove.

Out of Dusty Creek. Past the dead fields, the broken fences, and the ghost-town gas station no one dared stop at anymore. The roads felt long, stretched with tension and the promi

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★The wheels of my car crunched over the gravel road as I pulled up across the street from Tate’s house. It was ten minutes to eight. The sky was darkening into a bruised blue, the air still and watching, like the town itself was holding its breath. My headlights caught on the mailbox at the end of the path and the cracked front steps leading to the porch. There were no lights on in the house—just the faintest amber glow leaking through the curtains. Quiet. Too quiet.I parked the car, turned off the engine, and sat there for a moment, hand clenched on the steering wheel. My pulse was steady, but I felt the pressure building under my skin. This wasn’t just a conversation. It was a trap, or a test. Maybe both. I don’t really care. I’m doing this, but I still can’t shake the nervousness. Should I park further away? Just in case she comes out while I’m in there to slash the tires?Ugh, I don’t know. I guess I don’t need to worry about that right now.I glance

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★I hate how quiet Colton gets when he's scared. Not afraid for himself. Never that. But for me—when the fear creeps in and he can’t control it, he goes silent, jaw tight and hands clenched like he's trying to crush the fear right out of his bones. We were still in Abel’s house, Tate locked up downstairs in the cellar like the rat he was. The air in the room was heavy with tension, thicker than the heat outside. Colton stood by the window, back turned, arms folded across his chest, watching the wind move through the fields as if it might answer him.His father had left to do some work around the farm, he said he’d be sending Curtis to keep an eye on the house. So now I’ve come up with a plan to handle Alina, but for that, I need Colton to accept my decision. I cleared my throat, stepping forward with purpose, but my voice was steady. “I’m going to her.”His shoulders tensed. He didn’t turn around. “No.”“I’m not asking.” I folded my arms under my breast.

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★Tate sat slumped in the chair, pale and sweat-slicked, like something had been siphoned from his spine. He’d broken, but not in the loud, sobbing way I expected. No screaming. No begging. Just a whisper and a look in his eyes like he’d seen hell blink back.I need to take notes from Abel though i hope to never be the one torturing someone for information. And that brings up another thought. My line of job is dangerous but I’m too young to quit. I mean, think about it. I’m not even thirty. So why retire now?“She’s staying at my place,” he said hoarsely. “Alina.” This is what we got him for? I could have guessed that. Damn, i should have broken into his place instead. Colton stood still beside me, arms crossed and shoulders stiff. I could feel the heat rolling off of him—anger, worry, something else bubbling under the surface. He didn’t trust how easy this part was.“She expecting you back soon?” I asked.Tate gave a tight nod. “Yeah. Probably within the

▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥 I watched the sheriff’s hands tighten around Tate’s throat, watched the red crawl up Tate’s face like a spreading infection as the sheriff lifted him up and slammed him against the nearest wall. He clawed at Bastillo’s forearms, legs kicking, face twisting as he choked on air that wouldn’t come. And the sheriff—fuck, the bastard wasn’t even flinching. His face was red with rage, spit flying as he roared.I almost moved my chair out of the way just to stay away from the splatter.“What the fuck is wrong with you, Tate?! The FBI?! You’ve made this a federal problem? What the hell is your fucking problem? Fuck! I shouldn’t have hired you, you worthless piece of shit! You're not worth a damn!”He slammed Tate into the concrete wall again. And again. And again.Tate’s head cracked against the cinderblock with a sickening thud, his body flailing like a rag doll. The guy tried to fight back, weak punches against a man twice his size, but it was pathetic. Sheriff Basti

▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥 Sheriff bastillo was unhappy to see vanessa even though he’d invited us both to show up about the noise complaint. “Okay, tate tells me you came looking for me while i was away. You wanna explain why I’ve gotten alot of complaints since i took my trip?”I didn’t say anything because i was fighting the urge to smack him across the face for all the bullshit he allowed to happen to this once prospering town. Fucking douchebag. So i settled in my chair and allow vanessa to do it. “Well since you asked so nicely. Why don’t i give you my list?” vanessa got up, adjusting her skirt and stepping closer to the door. She opened it and called tate. Forcing him to come into the office. “Take a seat asshole.”He frowned, and looked to bastillo who looked at me. I didn’t make any expression with my face. Forcing him to just nod. Tate took the seat next to me. “Alright.” vanessa pulled out her phone and began listing. She started with the sheriff’s ignorance. “Firstly, you

▄︻デ══━一 COLTON HAYES💥 I can’t believe someone actually broke into my house. In the middle of the fucking night. While I was in bed. With her. With the most important person in my life. It still pisses me off thinking about it.I hadn’t bothered with the mutt after I cuffed him—left him on the floor until the sun came up and his bones stopped cracking from the shift. Pain makes people talk. It also makes them weak. So I let him marinate in it.Now, with the morning light pouring through the thin windows of my old man’s place, I drag his nude, unconscious body into the basement by the cuffs digging into his wrists. I don’t care that they’re bruising. He earned every mark. The cell is cold. Damp. Concrete walls with reinforced bars. I toss him inside like garbage and close the door behind me with a loud clang. The twins are asleep in the far cell, breathing quietly, curled like foxes against the wall. At least they’re not a problem right now.He groans.Good.I crouch near the bars, w

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★The most romantic way to get railed.... i know, I’m a poet. Worship me. But listen to my poetry first. The most romantic way to get railed is by easing into it and saying something sweet, like perhaps;Ease me in, don’t rush the ride, Whisper dumb things like “you’re my guide.” Say you love my laugh, my bite, Then pin me down and dim the light. Tell me I’m art, your favorite sin, Brush my skin like you're about to begin— But not too fast, no race to win, Just slow destruction, soaked in sin.Call me trouble with reverence, grace, Then wreck my soul and realign my face. Soft hands, rough grip, you know the game, Say my name like it’s half a flame. Bring flowers, then ruin me sweet, Turn the bed into your drumbeat. Yes, romance me, but with intent— Make love like your spine is bent./I know, I’m brilliant. I’m also not entirely concious at the moment. Colton had taken his slow sweet time with me at the lake. He swam us to the shallow end, and put me on my

★。\|/。★VANESSA DAVIS★。/|\。★There are a lot of ways to end a date. Some people go for a goodnight kiss on the porch. Some say “we should do this again” and ghost the next day. Some crawl into bed together and pretend the world doesn’t exist outside their locked door.Me? I left the house in wet hair and champagne-soaked skin to go jump in a lake at midnight. Not a metaphor. The literal lake. I didn’t even bring a towel. Was it smart? No. Sensible? Absolutely not. But life was coming to a head for us—and I wanted to get head. Sue me.Colton didn’t even blink when I said I wanted to go. He grabbed the bottle, made sure I didn’t trip down the porch stairs, and walked us both like he knew exactly what I needed. Turns out, what I needed was a mouthful of lake water after he cannonballed in and splashed half the shoreline onto me.I cursed at him. He laughed. I tackled him. Then we kissed, and that shut both of us up.The water was cold, a kind of cold that made you forget everything—your
