Desmond's POV

Four years now since Ava died. I'm glad she died, she deserved it, my career would have been destroyed. Tonight I will sign a contract worth billions with the Cohen Corporation.

My world will completely change.

I felt the corners of my mouth twitch, and suddenly a little sound slipped out of my mouth before I could stop myself. I covered my mouth trying to act like it wasn't there.

When I arrived at the entrance, a man caught my attention. “No invitation, no entry” the security guard said, holding a velvet rope trying to stop him.

I smirked, handed in my invitation but the guards didn't need it. “ Who doesn't know you Mr Parker, the gala is held just for you.” The corners of my lips curled.

Grace placed her arm around me and our shoes whispered across the floor.

The moment I stepped into the ballroom, my world shifted. Music drifted through the air, gold light brushed my arm, perfume lingered in the air unexplainably rich, heels whispered against the floors, and for a moment my breath hitched.

“Could all this have been prepared for me?” I

“This is beautiful, only the Cohens can pull such luxury,” Grace said.

I had forgotten about the incident at the entrance but a man standing behind the table across the hall caught my attention. His suit was well-fitted, as if it were especially made for him. No companion leaning close, no glass in his hands. I would have stayed back but my legs betrayed me.

“Oh!"

"It’s you, the one who snuck in.”

He smirked

“This event isn’t for someone of your caliber.” His brow raised. I continued, “Look around we have elites from top families, and most especially Mr Cohen is coming today just for me.”

His face brightened, like something funny was written on my face.

“What are you laughing at?” I whispered.

His face brightened more, his lips curved, but his lips pressed against one another.

Whisperers echoed from all corners of the room.

“Drag him out if he snuck inside, Mr. Cohen isn’t holding this gala for freeloaders." A woman in a red dress murmured” but he didn’t flinch.

“I would have done that, but you see, this gala won't happen without me.” He said

Laughter erupted

“Are you saying you're Mr. Cohen? Oh please give me a break.” A man at the end of the room murmured.

My eyes scanned him from head to toe, his leg was completely rooted to the ground like he owned the place.

The corners of my lips broadened as if he were entertaining and I continued “Mr. Cohen is the richest man in the city, so forgive me for being confused, why doesn't anyone seem to recognize you at your own gala?”

He clamped his lips and then released them. “ I get that a lot, not everyone knows me”

“Ah ah ah"

"Big talks, let's see if you're still high and mighty when he shows up.”

His face grinned

Moments later,

A voice echoed

“The secretary to Mr Cohen, has arrived."

I smirked, “finally let's see if you're still big talk.”

Mr. Martins, the secretary to Mr. Cohen walked towards us, his eyes straight but something felt strange, he nodded his head at the sight of the man standing in front of me.

My eyes rolled in confusion. “Uhm… Mr Martins, I'm here, he's a no…”

The rest of my words died on my lips. Heat exploded in my cheeks, pain flared, sharp and raw on my face, and the crack echoed in my ears, silencing me.

My eyes widened, my mouth opened and in my thoughts, what did I do wrong?

I caught every eye widen, every whisper as it echoed through the room.

“ I thought he was signing a contract with Mr. Cohen tonight”

I flinched my fist but stood still, lips slightly widened

“Forgive me sir” Mr. Martins said, facing the man with his head bowed to the ground.

"sir?"

My jaw dropped, my mouth opened but not a sound came out. Then Grace's voice cut through "He paid Mr. Martins to act like this “

Another sting hit Grace

A ripple of murmurs spread, heads turning between Mr. Martins.

Mr. Martins shook his head, a sigh of relief, and then adjusted his tie.

“Allow me to introduce my…”

he stopped mid-way at the slightest lift of the man's hand. It could have been missed but then he continued “ Mr Cohen's best friend Lucas”

“Best friend?” I knew he was all big talk, a woman's voice roared.

Then a voice cut through the hall

“This Gala was held solely for one purpose; to sign the Parker group contract with Cohen Corporation ” but unfortunately Mr. Cohen already closed the deal one hour ago and it’s to be given to RG Corporation.

What? I blinked my eyes, and my face turned red like it was burning. Heat beaded on my forehead, stinging my eyes as it rolled down. The air in the ballroom, once cool and expensive, now felt like a furnace. My lips parted, and I wanted to speak but the words refused to come.

“Mr Martins, there… there must be a mistake.” I stuttered.

Papers flew into the air, my contract gone.

My heart raced, my mind went blank for a second, and my jaw dropped.

This was supposed to be the best night of my life. My legs felt weak, heat ran through my body and then something snapped.

“You, you did this.” My hands pointing at the man who snuck into the gala; Lucas

He grinned too brightly, almost pleased with the happenings.

I took a step toward him but arms crossed my path before I could move again.

The laughter that had warmed my pride faded. My cheeks burned, my hands clenched, the room seemed to shrink around me and for the first time in my life, I felt small.

Then Mr Martins said those words that carry crisp and final. The music thinned, heels slowed and voices dropped into murmurs.

I staggered towards the door, my vision blurring as if something essential had been pulled out of me. My heartbeat thundered in my ears and then it dawned on me that I wasn't in control anymore.

Desmond's POVI knew things were not the way they used to be. Grace and I had a lot going on, even before we got married. We still chose each other but this time it felt different. She was right in front of me yet I wasn’t satisfied. After the drama at the restaurant, all I thought about was how to appease my wife but it wasn’t working. The entire time my mind drifted to Morgana. Such beauty, gorgeousness. Oh, how I wish she were the one lying naked on my bed. I had Grace panting just beneath me minutes ago. Her hands still lying on my chest like she was trying to stake her claim. The room smelled of sex and expensive perfume, the kind she made me buy.Yet Morgana was the only thing on my mind.It was intense. I shut my eyes trying to erase her image, especially the unique smile she always wears and the way her lips curve each time a word is spoken. I can swear I hadn’t met someone like her in years. The curviness of her body and how she carries herself when walking. If this was

Ava’s POVOMG!My eyes widened immediately as I stood in front of Desmond. He had already picked it up, he opened the wallet but then I snatched it from his hand. “That's mine,” I said softly.“Oh uhm, I… I” he stuttered, “I thought you left already,” Oh no Desmond, I didn't. In fact, I heard everything you said about me. I wanted to say that but instead I blinked once before answering. “Yes I had,” I paused, “but I realized I forgot my wallet so I came back immediately.”“Oh okay, I found it beneath the table” he said looking at the table.“Thank you,” I said, finally trying to act grateful, but I wasn't. I wish I could punch him in the face for all the terrible things he did to me. Gosh, I hated him so much.Grace sat down staring at me as if the world depended on that gaze. “So you didn't hear anything,” she said finally. I shook my head like a little puppy before answering, “No, I just arrived here.”I lied. “Alright, Morgana, we were about to leave,” Grace said, standing on

I stood still and leaned against the wall in order not to be seen. “We don't know who has it,” Grace said. Wait a minute, so Grace knows about it too. I inhaled slowly, and my ears sharpened.“We have more pressing issues,” Mia cut in, changing the subject. What could be more pressing than the key to them?Desmond nodded his head in agreement with his mother. “Parker Group isn't the way it used to be,” he continued, “we don't have investors anymore, the only person backing us is the Adams Foundation.”Right, Adams Foundation. I smirked and let a faint smile rest on my lips. “I guess you still haven't found SG, “ Mia said softly.Desmond shook his head, “Sometimes I wish Ava was still alive.”“Careful of what you wish for, Desmond.” Grace barked, “I'm right here.”“Relax babe, I meant she would know where SG

Ava's POVOur eyes locked for a moment. He blinked once, twice. Desmond Parker. My ex-husband, the man behind my death and other things I'm yet to find out. He stood in front of me in a suit that clung to his lean frame, hands slightly resting on my back. For a minute, neither of us spoke a word until Mia broke the silence. “Do you two know each other?”Desmond immediately removed his hand from my back. I straightened immediately, “Yes.” I looked at Grace while talking, “Grace has told me a lot about him and I'm delighted to finally meet him.” Her eyes widened, I'm sure she must have wondered about the time she told me such a thing. But I stretched forth my hand with a smile on my face, for a handshake with him. “Morgana, nice meeting you.” Desmond couldn't say a word, he just obeyed like a dog who listens to its owner. “Desmond Parker,” he said, giving me a handshake as well. “Great,” Mia interrupted.I took one more sip of wine before standing on my feet. “I will take my leav

Ava's POV “Grace?” The voice repeated so I turned fully and smiled.Mia ParkerMy biggest nightmare and ex-mother-in-law. The one person who made me shake whenever she spoke to me. I remember feeling as though the floor should open for me to fall inside one time. And today she stood in front of me, looking as elegant as ever but the only difference was that she didn't recognize me. But I did. I smirked, slightly this time.“Mother,” Grace said, trying to fake a smile. Mia walked into our space, “What are you doing in the restroom? We're supposed to have lunch in the restaurant.”Before Grace could respond, I cut in… “I will take my leave Grace , see you around.” My heels whispered against the floor as I headed toward the door. But Mia’s gaze fell on me. “Wait…” I froze mid-step.Oh my God! Did she recognize me?No, no, no, no, no, this can’t be happening. “And you are?” She asked softly.“Anna,” I turned facing her. She rolled her eyes. “Anna?” She repeated the name, “Never

Ava’s POVSilence filled the restroom, the kind that settles before chaos begins. The steady trickle of water from a leaking pipe was the only sound, setting the stage for the battle about to unfold.I turned toward her and smiled brightly. Her hands were shaking already, “What… you… Morgana.”“Did you forget how to speak?” My brow lifted slightly, “Well, hello to you too, Grace.” I said immediately and tightened my jaw.“Surprised to see me?,” I smiled awkwardly this time. But it didn't last long.I moved further to dry my hands, deliberately, and walked back to her. “You seem tense though, what’s the issue?”Grace realized she was holding the hem of her dress so tightly, so she laughed nervously. “You scared me. I.. I wasn’t expecting anyone.” She finally spoke.I nodded my head, “Is that why you can’t find the right words?” My tone was sharp. She paused, her shoulders already stiffened. Minutes later she opened her mouth, “I thought you travelled after the kidnap incident.” “Of c
