Ava's POV

Take her to the ER

That voice, it sounded familiar but I'm too weak to open my eyes. All I feel is pain and suffering within my body.

Tears flowed freely from my eyes. I couldn't do anything. It was too late. I wanted the pain to stop but I wish I could change the hands of time, only then would the mistakes I made be changed.

No, no no, Ava!

The monitor beep continued, and noise filled the room as doctors and nurses ran in and out, but I was already tired of living.

The beep stopped and silence filled my world.

FOUR YEARS LATER

The distant sound of monitors echoed in my ears, and the sterile smell of antiseptic filled my nostrils. I blinked, my eyelids heavy as if weighted by lead.

Page Doctor Lucas, she's waking up. A voice murmured.

I turned my head slightly, grimacing at the pain that shot through my neck.

Everything hurts!

My legs, my head, my neck, most especially my face. It felt like someone had stitched it with needles.

I blinked again, my vision blurry and the first thing I noticed was a man standing next to me.

He didn't look like a doctor, not with the kind of beard that could scare people away and he wasn't in scrubs. His hair was curly like a girl's, sleeves folded to his elbows. There was something about him I couldn't fathom.

I tried to speak but my throat was sore from the pain I felt.

“Water,” I rasped, my voice inaudible, my throat burning. He got up quickly, fetched me a glass of water, and lifted it to my lips. I sipped, coughed, and sipped again.

“Do you remember anything? Your name, Family, and the year we are currently in?” He asked in a low but deep voice after I had calmed down.

“I..I, My name is” I took a deep breath, eyes scanning the room.

“Don't be scared, I’m Doctor Lucas.” His jaw relaxed, his gaze on me like he was there to protect me from falling.

“My name is Ava.” I began “This is 2022 and I don't have a family last I remember.” I held my head, flashes of light, tyres screeching, blood beneath me came rushing to my memory and tears welled in my eyes again.

Soon the doctor held my  hand, gently rubbing his palm against mine.

“Breathe Ava, it's been a long time but you’re safe now” a voice whispered. I opened my eyes, and it was the doctor's voice.

I nod my head, and a deep sigh follows.

“Ava,” he took a long pause

“It's 2026”

“2026?” I whispered, my lips trembled

“That..that can't be right.” My chest tightened, my eyes widened, and tears stung in my eyes. They had lived, laughed, and moved on without me.

“What…what happened to me?” my voice rasped barely audible.

“You have been unconscious for a while, Four years “

My eyes widened

“You were in a car accident four years ago and I happened to be at the scene so I pulled you out. If I were late even for a minute you would have..,”

He couldn't finish his statement.

“I was scared but you fought really hard and to stabilize you we had to put you on life support.”

He sniffed

His eyes welled with tears, something I can describe as a story behind it.

Rest up, we will take it slow and by the way, welcome back. His face grinned brightly, and he gently covered my body with the sheets.

Soon his footsteps fade away.

I could hear whispers from the nurses in the room. They either go silent when noticed by me or pretend like they are busy.

“Excuse me, I croaked, voice sounding like sandpaper.”

“Is he really a…she didn't let me finish

“Yes, he is a doctor. One of the best in the city, acts cold sometimes. Some say he was in the military but he's like a god in the OR.”

My lips widened

I was already drawn to him but I don't think I will be interested in men generally, not after what Desmond did to me.

Silence filled the room.

THE NEXT DAY

I stared into space, my mind reminiscing on the incident that night. They had moved on without justice, I was buried without a body and my name no longer exists. Who am I now?

Knock, knock

Silence cracked and my breath hitched.

Slowly the door opened. “Ava, someone is here for you”

Desmond? I twisted my hands together

“Her name is Anna, she said she's family.”

“Family?”

“I don't know Anna.” I whispered

Minutes later, an elderly man walked in alongside a woman in a suit holding a file.

“Brooks? Is that…really you”

He nods his head, and tears hang in his eyes.

“Miss Ava, I'm sorry for being late”

Brooks is my family's Butler who disappeared after the death of my father.

I winced at him, my eyes couldn't miss the woman next to him.

“This is Anna, your father's lawyer and legal adviser.”

My brows narrowed, eyes on Anna and back to Butler Brooks. I swallowed hard, forcing a sound from my throat.

“Butler Brooks, what’s going on?”

Anna leaned forward, handing the file to me. I gasped, pictures of the Parker family dinner, the accident from four years ago, when I was rushed to the hospital.

“We’ve been watching you.” “Your father Mr Nelly Johnson predicted all of this.” She paused, eyes on Brooks, and he nodded showing approval.

“What do you mean?” “ I could have died.” My voice tightened as my fingers curled into my palms.

“Your father made a hidden clause in his will on one condition.”

“Condition?” My eyes opened

“On the condition that, your inheritance is given to you if you divorce Desmond.”

“What? My eyes widened.

He saw through Desmond. In his words, “That boy is dangerous.” Miss Ava, he knew he was up to no good and he wished you had listened to him. My eyes felt itchy, I looked away, and a deep sigh followed.

This file shows how much your father cared;

I flipped to the final page. My breath hitched, there were so many zeros, I had to count them twice. I wasn't just a survivor; I was the owner of the empire Desmond had been trying to take.

  • Return of the Billionaire Heiress   CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE

Desmond's POVI knew things were not the way they used to be. Grace and I had a lot going on, even before we got married. We still chose each other but this time it felt different. She was right in front of me yet I wasn’t satisfied. After the drama at the restaurant, all I thought about was how to appease my wife but it wasn’t working. The entire time my mind drifted to Morgana. Such beauty, gorgeousness. Oh, how I wish she were the one lying naked on my bed. I had Grace panting just beneath me minutes ago. Her hands still lying on my chest like she was trying to stake her claim. The room smelled of sex and expensive perfume, the kind she made me buy.Yet Morgana was the only thing on my mind.It was intense. I shut my eyes trying to erase her image, especially the unique smile she always wears and the way her lips curve each time a word is spoken. I can swear I hadn’t met someone like her in years. The curviness of her body and how she carries herself when walking. If this was

Ava’s POVOMG!My eyes widened immediately as I stood in front of Desmond. He had already picked it up, he opened the wallet but then I snatched it from his hand. “That's mine,” I said softly.“Oh uhm, I… I” he stuttered, “I thought you left already,” Oh no Desmond, I didn't. In fact, I heard everything you said about me. I wanted to say that but instead I blinked once before answering. “Yes I had,” I paused, “but I realized I forgot my wallet so I came back immediately.”“Oh okay, I found it beneath the table” he said looking at the table.“Thank you,” I said, finally trying to act grateful, but I wasn't. I wish I could punch him in the face for all the terrible things he did to me. Gosh, I hated him so much.Grace sat down staring at me as if the world depended on that gaze. “So you didn't hear anything,” she said finally. I shook my head like a little puppy before answering, “No, I just arrived here.”I lied. “Alright, Morgana, we were about to leave,” Grace said, standing on

Ava's POVThe keyIt was in my possession the entire day, yet I sat in front of them and I never knew they wanted it so badly. What exactly is in that safe my father mentioned? I stood still and leaned against the wall in order not to be seen. “We don't know who has it,” Grace said. Wait a minute, so Grace knows about it too. I inhaled slowly, and my ears sharpened.“We have more pressing issues,” Mia cut in, changing the subject. What could be more pressing than the key to them?Desmond nodded his head in agreement with his mother. “Parker Group isn't the way it used to be,” he continued, “we don't have investors anymore, the only person backing us is the Adams Foundation.”Right, Adams Foundation. I smirked and let a faint smile rest on my lips. “I guess you still haven't found SG, “ Mia said softly.Desmond shook his head, “Sometimes I wish Ava was still alive.”“Careful of what you wish for, Desmond.” Grace barked, “I'm right here.”“Relax babe, I meant she would know where SG

  • Return of the Billionaire Heiress   CHAPTER FIFTY TWO

Ava's POVOur eyes locked for a moment. He blinked once, twice. Desmond Parker. My ex-husband, the man behind my death and other things I'm yet to find out. He stood in front of me in a suit that clung to his lean frame, hands slightly resting on my back. For a minute, neither of us spoke a word until Mia broke the silence. “Do you two know each other?”Desmond immediately removed his hand from my back. I straightened immediately, “Yes.” I looked at Grace while talking, “Grace has told me a lot about him and I'm delighted to finally meet him.” Her eyes widened, I'm sure she must have wondered about the time she told me such a thing. But I stretched forth my hand with a smile on my face, for a handshake with him. “Morgana, nice meeting you.” Desmond couldn't say a word, he just obeyed like a dog who listens to its owner. “Desmond Parker,” he said, giving me a handshake as well. “Great,” Mia interrupted.I took one more sip of wine before standing on my feet. “I will take my leav

Ava's POV “Grace?” The voice repeated so I turned fully and smiled.Mia ParkerMy biggest nightmare and ex-mother-in-law. The one person who made me shake whenever she spoke to me. I remember feeling as though the floor should open for me to fall inside one time. And today she stood in front of me, looking as elegant as ever but the only difference was that she didn't recognize me. But I did. I smirked, slightly this time.“Mother,” Grace said, trying to fake a smile. Mia walked into our space, “What are you doing in the restroom? We're supposed to have lunch in the restaurant.”Before Grace could respond, I cut in… “I will take my leave Grace , see you around.” My heels whispered against the floor as I headed toward the door. But Mia’s gaze fell on me. “Wait…” I froze mid-step.Oh my God! Did she recognize me?No, no, no, no, no, this can’t be happening. “And you are?” She asked softly.“Anna,” I turned facing her. She rolled her eyes. “Anna?” She repeated the name, “Never

Ava’s POVSilence filled the restroom, the kind that settles before chaos begins. The steady trickle of water from a leaking pipe was the only sound, setting the stage for the battle about to unfold.I turned toward her and smiled brightly. Her hands were shaking already, “What… you… Morgana.”“Did you forget how to speak?” My brow lifted slightly, “Well, hello to you too, Grace.” I said immediately and tightened my jaw.“Surprised to see me?,” I smiled awkwardly this time. But it didn't last long.I moved further to dry my hands, deliberately, and walked back to her. “You seem tense though, what’s the issue?”Grace realized she was holding the hem of her dress so tightly, so she laughed nervously. “You scared me. I.. I wasn’t expecting anyone.” She finally spoke.I nodded my head, “Is that why you can’t find the right words?” My tone was sharp. She paused, her shoulders already stiffened. Minutes later she opened her mouth, “I thought you travelled after the kidnap incident.” “Of c
