Chapter Twenty Three

‘What the fuck.’

He glared back at me as I snarled at him,

‘Get off me.’

I had half shifted, and my razor-sharp teeth snapped centimetres from his face.

‘You are a fucking liar.’

He backed away, his cock going soft at my vicious rage.

‘Dakota?’

His need of me made him angry, but I was incandescent with rage, and Solar took control of me, my pretty golden wolf snarled again, linking him, she hissed.

‘You hurt her, you fucking idiot. Why didn’t you control your fucking Lycan?’

Kaiden’s eyes slipped to the bed, and he saw the blood; it wasn’t much, but it was clear he had been far too rough with her after promising her he would be gentle. He turned to reason with Solar, but she had already backed away, heading to the door.

‘No, stop, do not run again.’

He tried to order her using his Alpha command, and she stopped as she was meant to,o but as he watched, he saw we were fighting his authority, snarling as my temper grew. I watched him approach me, feeling my anger growing as he tried to command me again, and I turned on my wolf when she told me.

‘We have to obey our Alpha.’

She told me, but I was having none of it,

‘You fucking obey that animal because I am not. I promised myself I would never allow another male to dominate me, and I’m damn sure he is not going to.’

The almost mate bond had been tenuous, nowhere near completed, and now I  used all my inner strength to snap it again, ignoring Solar’s howls of pain. Before Kaiden could reach me, I shifted back into my human form and wrenched the door open, then I raced through it, shifting mid-stride again mid stride, finding the strength to take control of my wolf for the first time. All he saw was a golden streak as I raced away from him and the cage he was trying to place me in.  

Solar ran, her paws covering the miles with barely a gasp of breath, when we finally came to a stop at the edge of the trees that made up the forest. I finally allowed her to take back control, and her ears became erect, and her nose twitched. This was not the Midnight Eclipse Territory, and nothing smelled familiar. We had run so far blindly without any thinking from either of us; my only instinct had been to get as far away from that domineering Alpha as I could. Now we were lost, and she turned her head frantically trying to find any scent she could recognise. It was way too dangerous for a young, unmated female to run onto another Pack’s land, especially an exotic,c rare prize like a Solar Lycan. I knew they would see me as a prize worth fighting for, and my wolf knew every Alpha within the area who could smell our intoxicating scent would be after us. Solar had learned how to fight to protect us; it had been necessary for our survival, and she huffed at m,e then snarled softly into the wind.

‘Let them come. I’ll fucking kill those Alphas myself if I have to.’

The sky was full of grey and pink stripes as I trotted along the road toward yet another human town because I needed to find somewhere to crash. I was so exhausted. When I found the abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the town, it appeared to be the haven I needed, and I circled it warily. Keeping to the shadows, I scoped it out, making sure it really was deserted, and as I could scent nothing, I went inside, slowly slinking forward on silent paws. It was cold and damp inside, but it was dry and away from the wind, so I found another dark corner facing the door so I  could hear and see if anyone entered. Staying in my wolf, I circled, then curled up, placing my tail over my nose and falling into a deep, dreamless sleep. I awoke with a start at the sound of voices outside the door, making me instantly alert, and I jumped to my feet, my lips curled over my teeth in a silent snarl. If they came inside, I would tear them to pieces. I was in no mood to be nice to anyone. I was lucky they moved away, and the fur on the back of my neck went down. Moving on quiet paws, I  headed for the door, pausing to the side of it, scenting the air. Something wasn’t right, and I tensed, pressing myself against the wall. When the two brown male wolves burst through the door, I was ready for them. Before they even noticed me, I streaked out into the late afternoon sunshine. All they saw was the golden streak of my russet-tipped fur as I disappeared into the treeline, becoming a shadow in the woods. They tried to follow me, but Solar knew how to hide us in plain sight, and they passed by us four times and never discovered our hiding places, eventually giving up and returning to their Pack after two hours of fruitless searching. When I  was sure I  had shaken them off, I made my way through the woods and out into the valley behind, deciding to keep going forward. Solar wanted us to return to Kaiden; he was their mate and their Alpha. It was inbred in all wolves to obey their commands. I ignored my wolf's pleas,

‘This is the twenty-first century Solar. I’m not fucking obeying any guy even if he is the hottest, sexiest guy I’ve ever met.’

There was nothing the wolf could do when her human was so determined to walk away from all the pleasure he would bring them, secretly determined that when he found them, she would take over and make sure they did not run away from him again.
