—Samantha pov—

For a moment, there was a pin-drop silence.

The air although quiet was intense.

With a hard face, I gave Mr Zhao a short bow, then turned without another word, walking away with grace and quiet rage building inside me.

Tomorrow, they’ll all know exactly who they’ve been playing with!

My hands trembled slightly as I pushed the restroom door open and then entered.

The mirror greeted me with a reflection that I barely recognized. My jaw was tight, my eyes sharp. Sighing, I reached for the tap, letting the cold water run over my palms before splashing it onto my face.

The icy sting helped chase away the lingering anger and exhaustion that clung to me like a second skin.

Hence, I took a few steady breaths and used a paper towel to dab away the droplets clinging to my cheeks. Then I ran my fingers through my hair and adjusted my blazer. I was calm again. Composed. I didn’t want anyone to see the storm raging inside me. Not yet.

—SAMANTHA— My mind raced again. No. It couldn’t be Dalton. He would never put his duaghter life in danger like this. Then who was it? Any of the four families? But they dont know my real identity yet! This person must be powerful. He or she has the nerve to send three damn sedans after me in the middle of the night. Did they hthink this would scare me? Intimidate me?Well, it was working. But I wouldn’t show it.Not in front of my daughter. “Ryan,” I said through gritted teeth, “Head for the tunnel. If we can get through it and mix with traffic, we might lose them.”“Got it!” He sped up, pushing the car harder. I could hear Amore crying behind me now, sobbing into her car seat. I wanted to comfort her, hold her, but I couldn’t even turn fully. All I could do was shout back and hope she felt safe.“We’re going to be okay, Amore! I promise! Just hold on!”She sobbed louder, and my heart broke. Then, just ahead—I saw the tunnel.“Go!” I shouted.Ryan gunned it.We darted into the tun

—SAMANTHA— Ryan drove us home quietly, the car moving smoothly through the city streets as the orange glow of the setting sun bathed everything in soft warmth. I rested my head slightly against the window, closing my eyes for a moment, trying to calm the nerves that had been poked at all day. Finally we reached home and the moment we stepped into the house, the sound of hurried little footsteps echoed from the hallway.“Mommy!”I blinked and looked down just in time to catch Amore running into my arms. I knelt and scooped her up, hugging her tightly. My heart eased the moment she wrapped her arms around my neck.“Hey, my sweet girl. How was school today?”“Fine,” she said, her voice muffled against my shoulder. “But I missed you!”I smiled and kissed her cheek. “I missed you too.”Then she pulled back and gave me a hopeful look. “Can I have ice cream today?”I raised a brow. “Ice cream? Hmm… did you behave at school?”Amore nodded eagerly, eyes wide with excitement. “Yes, yes, yes!”

  • Revenge After Divorce: Ex-Husband Regret    A slap

—Samantha pov—By the time I returned to the ward, the room was quiet, the only sound being the soft beep of the machines and Maryjane’s slow breathing as she rested in the bed. Her face was still bruised, the swelling slightly down, but the pain was still there—visible in her eyes even when she smiled.I sat beside her all morning, talking about nothing and everything. Holding her hand when silence fell between us. It wasn’t the most comfortable place, but I didn’t want to leave her alone—not when she needed someone the most.It was already past noon when I finally stood to leave. I glanced at my phone—several missed messages from Ryan, even one from Amore’s nanny. I had to go.As I picked up my bag, Maryjane looked up at me and asked, her voice soft, “How’s tomorrow going to be?”For a moment, I paused. “Tomorrow is the banquet,” I said, straightening. “I’ll be making my first official appearance as the CEO.”Her eyes widened slightly. “You mean… everyone will finally know?”I nodd

—Samantha pov—The hospital lights were too bright.Everything about this place felt cold and too clean. My heels clicked softly against the white tiles as I walked inside, my chest tight and heart racing. I moved straight to the front desk, where a young receptionist looked up from her computer.“I’m here for my friend,” I said quickly. “Maryjane Morgan. I got a call from the hospital, she was brought in.”The woman typed something fast, glanced at the screen, and then nodded. “Room 207, second floor. Down that hallway, take the elevator up.”“Thank you,” I said and hurried off, not waiting another second. My legs moved on their own, faster with every step. Something was wrong. Something serious. I could feel it deep in my bones. As soon as the elevator opened, I rushed out, heart pounding harder. I turned the corner, following the room numbers. 205… 206…207! I pushed the door open. And what I saw made my whole body freeze.“Maryjane,” I whispered. She was sitting on the bed in a h

—Samantha pov—But none of them spoke. The table was filled with a mix of old and new investors, senior executives, and a few influential shareholders. They watched as we entered.I walked in without fanfare, my face calm, neutral. Just an ordinary assistant. That’s what they all thought I was. And that was just fine.As usual, I made no move to sit. I quietly took my place behind Ryan’s chair, pen and notepad in hand. My back straight. My eyes lowered. Invisible, but not blind.I scanned the table as Ryan takes greeted everyone. Mr. Zhao, from Eastport Ventures, sat closest to the projector, with a crooked smirk. I never trusted him. Something about his mischievous smirk always felt too calculated.I noticed Dovanon, the sharp-tongued investor, sat across from him, impatiently drumming his fingers on the table. A risk-taker, cocky, and always a little too interested in who was rising and who was falling. I didn’t trust him either. Then there was, Mrs. Peta, elegant in appearance, ye
