Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
I was half-asleep when the call jolted me awake.

I pinched my arm hard, trying to stay calm.

"Director! I swear I didn’t!"

"I believe you. You’re not the type to commit such a rookie error. But check your phone. A pregnant woman just filed a complaint against you.

"The hospital is treating this very seriously. So be on your phone 24/7."

I immediately opened YouTube, and the very first video staring back at me was Mira.

She held up her ID card, her face deadly serious.

"My name is Mira, and I’m filing a public complaint against Emily Quint, a radiologist at St. Mary’s General Hospital in Westbridge.

“Yesterday, I went in for abdominal pain. She failed to inform me that pregnant women should not undergo radiology exams. Because of her negligence, the child I’ve been waiting for now has to be aborted. Otherwise, there’s a high risk that the baby would be born disabled.

“I demand two million dollars in emotional damages."

The video had gone up at nine last night. By now, it already had over a million likes and shares.

I opened the comments section. Netizens were furious, all siding with her and demanding justice.

Though a few of my former patients tried to defend me.

[When I went to Dr. Quint for an exam, she was very thoughtful. She even gave me extra shielding because she knew I’d had thyroid surgery.]

[Are you sure you’ve got the right person? When I went in, the first thing she asked was whether I was pregnant or trying to get pregnant.]

However, Mira had replied under each of those comments with the same line.

[How much did she pay you to say that? Don’t you feel guilty making dirty money?]

The hospital’s official website even posted a statement saying they’d investigate and give Mira a formal response as soon as possible.

However, Mira wasn’t buying it and fired back in the comments.

[I want Emily to compensate me now! Immediately!

[Everyone knows hospitals are full of insiders covering for each other. You’re all in on it! Don’t think you can stall until this blows over!]

Her followers echoed her words. Then one comment exploded across the feed.

[My sister works at this hospital. I won’t say which department, but she told me that Emily already handed in her resignation yesterday morning.]

[This woman’s guilty! She’s running away!]

That was the last straw.

I went straight to Mira’s account and commented, [You claim I gave you this exam? Then show actual evidence. Without proof, you’re just chasing clout and stirring up conflict between doctors and patients!]

Almost instantly, Mira’s noisy posts across platforms went silent.

An hour later, she finally replied to my comment.

[I’m not falling into your trap. Why should I hand over evidence just because you demand it?]

Public opinion began to shift. Netizens mocked her beneath the reply.

[Stop throwing around big words you don’t even understand! You’re the one accusing her. If you don’t produce evidence, who should?]

When I refreshed the page again, her reply to me had already been deleted.

Just when I thought the storm was finally over, Mira suddenly posted again on social media two days later.

[Here’s the evidence you’ve all been asking for.]

Using AI-generated photos and videos was actually my idea. I had someone tip Mira off on purpose.I pretended to be nervous and evasive, hoping she would blow things out of proportion. So, when the truth came out, everyone would know I had been framed, and my career wouldn’t be ruined.Second, stirring up her family’s attention made it easier to investigate Mira’s bullying. The reporters eventually exposed everything online. My innocence was finally proven. Many netizens who had once cursed me flooded my account with apologies. Hospitals that had previously rejected me now sent job offers.I felt my eyes grow damp without realizing it. In my previous life, because of Cody’s family, I was buried under crushing debt and blacklisted by every hospital. Some even used me as a cautionary tale in their annual lectures. With nowhere to go, I had been forced to work construction, enduring both physical and mental torment. This time, I thank God for giving me another chance. The story

“You’ve lost it! Do you even realize what you’re doing?!”“She’s my sister! No matter what, I can’t just stand here and watch the cops drag her away without lifting a finger!”The officers only cuffed him on the spot for obstructing an arrest. As the scene unfolded, a reporter heading out paused long enough to give me a firm pat on the shoulder.“Leave the rest to us.”Meanwhile, after escaping, Mira wasn’t wasting a second. Somehow, she had already fired up a livestream. On camera, she began to cry.“Everyone, please listen! The power of money is terrifying. I’m just an ordinary girl. I have no money or connections. I can’t fight against them! “Not only did they refuse me any compensation, but now they’re trying to throw me in jail to silence me!”Her words instantly whipped up outrage in the chat.[Unbelievable! So they don’t even bother hiding it anymore? Why is it so hard for normal people to even defend themselves?!][I know right! When she threatened her to stop the s

Cody lunged forward and snatched the knife out of Mira’s hand. It was nothing more than a toy. He quickly restrained her, then apologized to us.“I’m sorry. My sister’s still young and immature. Please don’t hold this against her. “I beg you not to spread this around. We promise we’ll never bring it up again once we leave. She has a future ahead of her, a life to live. This one mistake can’t ruin everything for her.”When none of us showed the slightest reaction, Cody grew more desperate. He even tried to get on his knees and beg.I couldn’t stand the pathetic act any longer. His false humility was really just moral blackmail.“So your sister’s future matters, but mine doesn’t?!“Do you even realize what this could do to my career if it isn’t cleared up? “How am I supposed to work in a hospital again? What hospital would even take me after this? “Cody, stop being so selfish!”The ugly, painful memories of my past life flashed before my eyes, and my emotions finally crac

The monitor flickered back and forth, but nothing showed with Mira’s initials. To be thorough, in case I was accused of modifying her name, I even pulled up every file.I was clearing my name. After the demonstration, I specifically told the reporters that when this went public, all patient names and scans must be blurred out. Patient privacy came first, and nothing could be leaked. That was why, when we walked in earlier, I had insisted Mira cut the livestream, even though I knew leaving it running would’ve been more in my favor.“My name’s not in here! You must’ve tampered with it in advance and deleted mine!” Mira sneered.I just smiled calmly. I had expected her to question it.“It’s impossible. Once patient data is logged into this system, it can’t be erased. Otherwise, how could patients, or even we technicians, trust that our rights are being protected? If you don’t believe me, try it yourself.”The police and reporters tested it over and over, only to find that it reall

“Hmph, fine. Let’s go see what tricks you’re trying to pull this time!”When we stepped out the door, Mira dramatically pulled out a pair of handcuffs and snapped them onto my wrists.“Criminals should act like criminals!”Cody, on the other hand, pretended to play the good guy, offering to unlock them for me.I refused it.It wouldn’t be long before Mira herself would be the one in cuffs, anyway. The first stop was the hospital’s billing office. I asked the clerk to print out the revenue record for July 4th. Since I had already spoken with the hospital director, the staff was cooperative and quick. The statement clearly showed that Mira had paid her fee at exactly 10:00 a.m. and then requested a refund at 11:50 a.m.Among the stack of refund slips, I easily pulled out hers, which was stamped “refunded” in bold letters at the bottom right. Then, I brought up the scan Mira had posted online and saved it to my phone before opening my gallery. The photo’s timestamp was plain as d

The post included everything from copies of the hospital’s exam orders, the scans, and the diagnosis results.Even a photo of the exact moment she handed me that order in the imaging department.Worst of all, there was a full video recording of me performing the scan on Mira from start to finish.A chill ran down my spine, as if I’d been dragged straight back to my previous life. I replayed it again and again, zooming in, slowing it down, but there wasn’t a single flaw.I tossed the phone aside in panic. Even though the sun was blazing outside, I felt so cold that my body trembled.Ten minutes later, another notification buzzed on my phone.Mira had posted a new video. This time, Cody appeared with her.Right as it began, Cody broke down crying on camera."I let my sister down. It’s my fault that she lost her baby.“Emily and I were in a relationship. We never got married, but we’d been trying to conceive for a while. Then, when my sister found out she was pregnant, I was t
