RHONDA

If I didn’t find the password and tamper with the prototype, then Theodore would get away with everything. He would secure the billion-dollar contract, and he didn’t deserve it.

Fortunately, he hadn’t arrived at the company yet. I took advantage of that, slipping into his office and quickly scanning through his files, hoping to find where he had saved the password. But I couldn’t find anything.

Frustration burned through me. I clenched my fists, biting back a curse. I had to look for another way to contaminate the prototype.

Just as I was about to sneak out of the office, the door opened and he slipped in.

I froze.

He paused when he saw me, a frown on his face as he stared at me.

“I came to see you, but was about to leave when I didn’t see you,” I blurted out quickly.

He looked at me skeptically but quickly softened his expression.

“Okay. Uhm…” He pressed his lips together as he ventured further into the room.

I held my breath when he came a little too close. His mistress’s scent attacked my nose, making my stomach twist. He had been with her before coming here.

He was about to wrap his arm around me when his phone suddenly rang. Oh, thank goodness.

“Excuse me,” he said, quickly tugging it from his pocket and stepping away.

“What? Infirmary? I am on my way!” he said urgently after a few seconds.

I had lost all my supernatural abilities since I lost my wolf, which was why I couldn’t hear what the person on the other end had said.

He flicked his gaze at me, worry saturating his features. “I need to go.”

And just like that, he rushed out of the office, leaving me curious.

The sound of my phone ringing snapped me back to reality.

I glanced at the screen to see who was calling.

Malcolm.

The name appeared boldly on the screen.

My heart skipped a beat.

My childhood sweetheart. The name alone stirred a flood of memories. We went to the same high school, and everyone thought we’d end up together. But life happened, and he left the country and never returned. A few years later, I began seeing his name everywhere. Malcolm Hitler, founder of the SkyTech company.

I had been so proud of him from a distance.

That was until last week, when I unexpectedly ran into him at a tech event abroad.

He was still the same kind, smart, and dangerously charming boy I knew. He offered to rekindle the bond, but I made it clear that I was now married with a pup. Little did I know that my husband was a cheating bastard.

Anyway, we exchanged contacts, hoping to keep in touch as friends. But we hadn’t spoken since, until now.

“Hey, Malcolm,” I said softly into the phone.

“Hey, Rhonda!” he chuckled from the other end. “How are you?”

“I’m good. Um… how are you?”

“I’m fine. Happy birthday!”

A small smile tugged at my lips. “You remembered.”

“Of course!” he laughed. “I never forgot. Every year, I think about you, especially on your birthday. Fuck…” He cut himself off quickly. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have said that. You’re married now.”

Tell me why my heart skipped a beat at his words. Perhaps I still had lingering feelings for him.

I shook my head. It couldn’t be.

“It’s okay,” I said quickly. “Thank you, Malcolm.”

“Okay. I have to go now. It was really good hearing from you again. Bye, Rhonda!” he suddenly said before abruptly hanging up.

Later that day, I went to pick up Leo from school. The moment I saw him, I knew something was wrong. His little face was drawn into a frown as he walked toward me.

“What’s wrong?” I asked gently as we headed toward the parking lot.

“Mommy is not feeling well,” he said in a dull voice. “She’s in the infirmary.”

“She’s not your mommy!” I gritted out in annoyance and he pouted.

“She is,” he drawled.

So that was why Theodore had rushed out earlier.

Sighing, I continued, “How do you know?”

“She called my teacher and asked to talk to me,” he replied, then suddenly stopped walking. His lower lip jutted out as he looked up at me. “Can you take me to see her, please?”

I opened my mouth to refuse, but the words died on my tongue. Saying no would only cause a tantrum, and the last thing I wanted was for him to resent me even more.

So I forced a smile. “Okay, darling.”

“Thank you, Mommy!” he beamed, wrapping his small arms around my legs.

I ruffled his hair. “You’re welcome.”

Soon enough, he would love me the way he used to. He still remembered little things about me, like the fact that I hated yellow. His mind had simply been poisoned. That was all.

We got into the car, and I buckled him into his seat.

“Almost forgot,” he said suddenly as I turned on the ignition. “Happy birthday, Mommy.”

My eyes widened in surprise as I looked at him. He remembered.

A burst of joy filled my chest as I smiled at him. “Thank you, baby.”

We soon arrived at the infirmary and were directed to Layla’s ward. As we walked down the hallway, I bumped into a familiar face. Isabel. One of the nurses who had cared for me during my pregnancy. We had grown close during that time.

“Luna Rhonda!” Isabel exclaimed when she saw me. “It’s been so long! What brings you here?”

Before I could answer, Leo slipped his hand out of mine and ran toward the ward.

“Leo’s nanny is ill,” I replied. “We came to visit.”

“Layla?” the nurse asked, rolling her eyes slightly.

“Yes. Is there something wrong?” I asked carefully.

She shook her head quickly. “No, no. Nothing at all.”

It was clear that everyone knew about the affair. Everyone except me.

I masked the pain with a smile. “Okay then. I should go in.”

Just as I reached the door, I heard voices inside. I paused instinctively. The door was slightly ajar, allowing their words to drift out clearly.

“Mommy is pregnant?” Leo exclaimed excitedly. “So I’m going to be a big brother?”

“Yes, baby,” Layla replied warmly, cupping his cheeks. “You’re going to be a big brother.”

My heart slammed violently against my ribcage.

“I’m thinking of telling Rhonda the truth tonight,” Theodore said, standing beside them. “About you being his biological mother. I don’t know how she’ll take it.”

My blood ran cold, my insides twisting violently.

What the fuck did he mean by that?

Before I could stop myself, I barged into the room.

“What did you just say?” I demanded, my voice trembling with fury and disbelief.

RHONDA“We are leaving now,” I told Kane as I arranged my stuff into my handbag and leapt to my feet. I had almost forgotten he was there because of how quiet he had been.He reached for my bag, but I quickly pulled it away from him.“It’s fine.”I didn’t even expect him to be the one who would follow me to the company. I had expected Malcolm to ask Victor to follow instead.“You told him,” I muttered as we walked down the hallway.“I am sorry. I meant it when I promised to keep your secret, but…”“He threatened you with your family and you love them more than anything,” I cut him off.“I am sorry. I have wronged you. Please forgive me,” he muttered.“You don’t have to keep apologizing,” I said. “It’s not like you were given any choice. If I was also threatened with my family, I would have betrayed anyone.”“Thank you,” he nodded his head. When I saw that guilt was still written on his face, I added, “You don’t have to feel guilty about it. You weren’t in control.”“I know. But I hate

RHONDA“Contract?” Amos’s eyes narrowed. “Can’t we just make our discussions based on verbal mutual agreement?” he asked. No one could be trusted. I didn’t really know him or his aim of offering to help develop the system that would be used for the fabric, so I had to take extra measures.“I don’t work with people based on verbal agreement,” I muttered flatly, giving no room for argument. “If you think you can’t sign a contract, then I might as well decline your offer.”He held my gaze for a few seconds, then leaned back in his chair, exhaling softly.“You’re tough,” he said, a small smile tugging at his lips. “I like that.”“That wasn’t meant to be likable,” I replied.“I know,” he chuckled. “That’s why I like it.”Silence stretched between us for a moment before he raised both hands slightly in surrender.“Alright. I’ll sign your contract.”I studied him, trying to see if there was any hesitation behind his easy agreement, but there was none. If anything, he looked amused.“Good,” I

RHONDAMalcolm returned late that day, and we returned to West Haven the next day. He barely spoke to me, even though I tried hard to initiate conversations. When I realized he didn’t want to talk, I allowed him, giving him time to cool down. When we arrived at my grandparents’ mansion, I hadn’t expected him to get down from the car with us.He walked us into the mansion to greet my grandparents. They were so delighted to see him as they exchanged pleasantries. They offered him lunch, but he declined by saying he had lots of things to do in his pack. When he turned to leave, he walked towards me and opened his arms for a hug. Shocked by that action, I leaned into his arms anyway.“I love you. I just need time to process all this,” he whispered into my ears.We pulled away from the hug and I looked into his eyes. “I love you too.”He left afterwards. The next day, I resumed at the office after being away for days. MALCOLMRhonda had been keeping secrets from me, and that saddened me. Did she think I couldn’t help her? I figured that there was something going on with her and Kane. Sometimes I would call Kane, and he would say he wasn’t at the pack with them when he was supposed to be with them at all times. Although he told me that he was running errands for Rhonda, I found that suspicious. Other times, she would go out alone with Kane, leaving Victor and Leo behind. While knowing she wasn’t cheating on me because I was one hundred percent sure I trusted her, I knew she was hiding something from me.So, I asked Victor if he knew what Kane and Rhonda were up to. He had no idea. That led me to asking Kane.He denied it at first, but I had forced the answer out of him when I threatened him with his family. Before hiring them as Rhonda’s bodyguards, I made sure to have leverage against them. How dare he lie to me like that.Anyway, I finally got my answer. She had been looking for a daughter she nev

RHONDAEverywhere in my body hurt so badly. That bitch. The next time I saw her, I wouldn’t hesitate to kill her. She had caused me too much trouble.Malcolm tried to help me up.“Go after her before she escapes please,” I told him.“I am not leaving you,” he growled as he casually picked me up as though he was picking a teddy bear. He carried me the bridal style as he walked up the stairs.“Please get a doctor. My Luna needs to see one,” he told one of the nurses as we walked past her. He pointed towards one of the rooms. “We’ll be in that room.”“Yes, Alpha,” the nurse said as she hurried away.“Why did you fight her?” he said worriedly as he lowered me on the bed. “You know the condition you are in. What if you had lost the baby.”My hand quickly went to my stomach and rubbed over it. “I made sure to shield my belly while we were fighting. I am fine, Malcolm. For real. I just need the wounds to be cleaned. I don’t even need a doctor.”“Of course you need a doctor. These wounds are

RHONDAThe moment she heard me call her name, she quickened her steps and disappeared in a corner.“Stay here,” Malcolm growled as he ran down the hallways. Some of Theodore’s guards also followed.I couldn’t just stand here and do nothing, so I also rushed after them.Layla had disappeared while they all frantically looked for her, checking room by room. The stairs came into view. She had probably used the staircase to another floor, I thought. Without hesitation, I rushed down the staircase, checking the floor below. But she was nowhere to be found.“Where are you?” Malcolm’s voice hit my mind.“The floor below. I am looking for her,” I responded.“I am on the floor above,” he told me. “Ro, she’s dangerous. Go back to Theodore’s room and stay there. I’ll come for you after we find her.”“No, Malcolm. She tried to kill me, kidnapped my son, and would probably try to kill him also. We have to find her once and for all, and this might be our only CHANCE. I am joining in the search.” I
