The nursery door closed softly.

Aurora’s footsteps faded away, calm… as if nothing had just happened.

But the moment her shadow disappeared from the hallway, the atmosphere inside the room shifted.

Silent.

Heavy.

Suffocating.

Lily stood frozen in place. Her breathing was still uneven. Her cheek still burned from Aurora’s slap. Tears kept streaming down her face, unstoppable.

And Dante…

He remained by the door.

Yet he made no move to approach her.

Didn’t touch her. Didn’t defend her.

Slowly, Lily turned her head.

Her eyes were filled with pain.

“So…” her voice trembled, “…that’s what you do?”

Dante exhaled slowly, as if exhausted.

“Don’t start, Lily.”

That single sentence was like a spark.

“START?!” Lily’s voice rose, nearly hysterical. “You’re telling me not to start?! You just LEFT ME there with that woman!”

Dante shut the door firmly and stepped closer. “Lower your voice!”

But Lily shoved his chest. “Don’t touch me!” Her hands were trembling violently.

“I stood there alone! You didn’t even defend me! You let me look like a lunatic in front of her!”

Dante stared at her for a few seconds. Then… he let out a long breath.

“Because that’s exactly what I had to do.”

Silence. Lily froze.

“What… do you mean?”

Dante looked straight into her eyes. “All of it… was an act.”

One sentence. Enough to stop her completely.

“I had to do it,” he continued, his voice lower now. “If I had defended you… Aurora would’ve grown even more suspicious.”

Lily blinked. Tears still fell, but now… they mixed with confusion.

“You… were lying back there?”

Dante nodded slowly. “Yes.”

He stepped closer, his tone shifting—calmer, more convincing. “Think about it, Lily. Aurora already suspects us. She even has a recording. If I had taken your side… we would’ve been finished right there.”

Lily bit her lip. Her thoughts were in chaos.

But Dante’s words… began to sink in.

“It was the only way to protect us,” he continued. “I had to look like I didn’t know anything.”

Lily stared at him for a long time. Searching for lies. Searching for betrayal.

But Dante remained calm. Too calm.

And slowly… Lily’s defenses crumbled.

“…so you didn’t abandon me?” she whispered.

Dante shook his head.

“No.”

He lifted his hand and gently touched her face. “I would never abandon you.”

The words sounded sweet. But somehow… they felt cold.

Lily closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath.

When she opened them again, something had changed.

“Then…” her voice lowered, “we’re still going through with it?”

Dante frowned. “Going through with what?”

“The baby switch.”

Silence.

Dante immediately pulled his hand away.

His expression hardened.

“No. We’re not continuing with that plan.”

Lily froze. “What?”

“You heard me,” Dante said firmly. “It’s too risky now.”

Lily let out a small laugh. But it cracked.

“Risky?” she repeated. “After everything that just happened… now you’re thinking about risk?”

“Lily—”

“I don’t care!” she cut him off sharply.

Tears fell again. But this time… not from sadness. From anger.

“You saw our baby!” her voice shook. “You saw her condition!”

Dante fell silent. His jaw tightened.

“Our baby… isn’t like other babies…” Lily’s voice weakened. “I… I can’t even look at her for long.”

The words came out with difficulty.

As if it hurt to admit them.

But Dante remained silent.

And that… only fueled Lily’s anger.

“I can’t live like this!” she shouted. “I can’t raise a child with a condition like that!”

Dante’s gaze sharpened.

“That baby girl is your daughter.”

“No!” Lily shook her head violently. “Not like this! Not a child like this!”

Silence.

The words hung in the air. Cruel.

Merciless.

Dante took a deep breath.

“Listen to me carefully,” he said, his voice low but firm. “If we continue with that plan… Aurora will destroy us.”

Lily let out a bitter laugh.

“She’s already started.”

Dante didn’t argue.

Because it was true.

“Exactly. That’s why we need to be careful. We have to make her believe we’re doing nothing.”

Lily stared at him, her gaze sharp.

“And how do we do that?”

Dante stepped closer, his voice dropping to a whisper.

“You need to apologize to her.”

Lily’s expression changed instantly.

“…what?”

“You need to listen to me.”

“No.”

The answer came quickly. Firm. Without hesitation.

“I’m not doing that.”

Dante exhaled, his patience thinning.

“This isn’t about your pride, Lily. It’s about survival.”

Lily shook her head.

“I will not lower myself in front of that woman.”

“If you don’t…” Dante’s eyes hardened, “…you’ll be out of this house.”

The words hit hard.

Lily froze.

“You think Aurora will let you stay here after this?” he continued. “The only way is to make her believe you’re sorry. Hasn’t she always had a soft spot for you?”

Lily swallowed. Her hands clenched.

“And after that?” she asked quietly.

Dante smirked faintly. “Then we figure out the next step.”

Lily fell silent. Her mind raced.

But one thing kept haunting her—

Her baby…

Her condition…

And the life she would have to face if she did nothing.

“I can’t…” she whispered again.

But this time… weaker.

Dante stepped closer.

He lowered himself slightly to meet her gaze.

“You can. If you want all of this… you need to play smarter.”

Seconds passed.

And finally, Lily closed her eyes.

Tears fell again—this time, because a decision was forming.

“…fine,” she whispered. “I’ll apologize.”

Dante gave a faint smile. “Good.”

“But that doesn’t mean I’m giving up.”

Dante went still.

Lily stepped closer.

Very close.

Her eyes locked onto his.

“That child…” she whispered, “…will never be mine.”

Silence.

“And I will not live with that baby.”

Her tone turned cold.

Dangerous.

“No matter what.”

Dante narrowed his eyes.

There was something in her voice… something different.

Something she could no longer control.

“Lily—”

She smiled.

The same smile as before.

“Relax. I’ll apologize to Aurora.”

Lily turned and walked toward the door.

She paused.

Without turning back, she said softly,

“But I never said… I would stop.”

The door opened.

Then closed.

Dante stood alone in the room.

He could feel it—

something was slipping out of his control.

And somewhere else in the house…

Behind the monitor screens… Aurora watched everything.

Without blinking.

A slow smile formed on her lips.

Cold.

Calculated.

“Good…” she whispered.

Her gaze fixed on the screen showing Lily walking down the hallway.

“Keep playing, Lily.”

Aurora tilted her head slightly.

Her eyes gleamed.

“Because the further you go…”

Her smile deepened.

“…the more it will hurt when you fall.”

Aurora reached out and touched the screen.

Right over Lily’s face.

Then whispered softly—

“I wonder…”

A pause.

And her words lingered in the air—

“…how far you’re willing to go before I completely destroy you?”

Aurora looked at Darius curiously."A surprise?"A faint smile appeared on Darius's lips."If I tell you now, it won't be a surprise anymore."Aurora laughed softly."At least give me a hint."He shook his head."Wait two more days."Aurora didn't press him.She knew her husband well enough.Whenever Darius wanted to keep something secret to make his family happy, there was no point in asking any further. The next two days passed more quickly than either of them had expected. That morning, the Harrington residence was unusually busy.Aurora wore an ivory business suit that had been tucked away in her closet for a long time.Hazel stood in front of her mother, looking her up and down."Mommy, you look beautiful."Aurora smiled."Thank you."Hazel nodded in satisfaction."You look just like you did in your office pictures."Aurora laughed."You still remember?""I do."Hazel picked up Aurora's work bag and handed it to her."Here."Aurora accepted it."Thank you, Assistant Hazel."Hazel

On the way to the aquarium, Aurora spent most of the drive gazing out the window.Peter's words still echoed in her mind. The leader of Blackwood will be returning very soon.It sounded like a simple sentence. But after everything that had happened, it carried far greater meaning.Darius glanced at her briefly."What are you thinking about?"Aurora smiled."I'm imagining the day I truly return to work."Darius nodded."So am I."Aurora turned to him."Won't you feel like you're losing something?""Why would I?""You've been leading Blackwood for the past several months."A faint smile touched Darius's lips."I was only looking after your home."Aurora didn't answer. His words filled her heart with warmth. When they arrived at the aquarium, Hazel immediately ran ahead, still holding Aurora's hand."Mommy, hurry!"Aurora laughed."Slow down."Darius pushed the double stroller.Aiden and Aria were still fast asleep.Hazel stopped in front of a massive aquarium."A blue fish.""A yellow f

Darius didn't answer immediately. His gaze shifted to Aurora, who was helping Hazel straighten her hat."All right. We'll be there."The call ended.Aurora looked at him."What is it?"Darius slipped his phone into his pocket."Uncle Peter asked us to stop by Blackwood for a while."Aurora frowned."Now?""Yes. He said the board of directors has made a decision."Aurora took a slow breath."Then let's go there first."Hazel immediately raised her hand."What about the fish?"Aurora crouched in front of her daughter."We'll go see the fish after Mommy finishes her business."Hazel thought for a moment."Promise?""Promise.""Then Hazel will be patient."A few minutes later, the car was back on the road. This time, their destination wasn't a place for recreation, but the Blackwood headquarters. When they arrived, Peter was already waiting in the lobby."I'm sorry for interrupting your family's plans."Darius shook his head."It's all right."Peter turned to Aurora."They're all waiting.

  • Revenge Born of Betrayal   Chapter 221: Learning Together

Aurora read the next few lines. The letter wasn't long.It contained only a few sentences explaining everything Darius had already told her.About the responsibility he had merely wanted to safeguard.About his promise to return Blackwood to its rightful owner. And about his hope that Aurora would never doubt the sincerity of the man who had become her husband.Aurora drew a slow breath.Without reading to the final page, she carefully folded the letter.Darius watched her."You're not going to finish it?"Aurora shook her head."I already understand."She slipped the letter back into the envelope."I don't need to read the rest."Darius frowned."Why?"Aurora looked at him."Because I've already heard the answer I needed most... directly from you."The atmosphere in the room felt much lighter than it had only minutes before.Aurora stood up.Then she walked toward the window."I'm sorry."Darius rose to his feet as well."I'm sorry too."Aurora turned to him."For what?""I was too c
