Aurora POV
“Exactly, I never get to see you guys anymore. Spill all the tea!” Stacey adds, her blue eyes widening as leans in closer to the two of us. I chuckle, trying to think what would count as tea right now. Kara shakes her head, keeping quiet as usual. “I’m afraid I have no tea.” she chuckles and Stacey’s face drops. “But it’s your birthday. Come on,” she presses, still acting a little hopeful. “Not even an unbelievable present from your mates?” she looks to both of us. “We’re doing presents later,” I tell her as she then turns to Kara. “Elio got me a kitchen aid and a few other baking tools I had been hoping for,” she smiles as Stacey smiles. “That’s great, not exactly what I would call tea,” she mutters as I give her a look. “Is there something you want to share with the group?” I ask as she taps her chin. Gretchen comes out of Stacey’s little dog and jumps up to sit on her lap. “He’s just… changed lately. Not in a bad way. Just different. Like he’s carrying something heavy, but pretending it’s not there. Every time I try to ask, he just distracts me and tells me it’s nothing. But I’m not so sure,” she mutters before looking at her mate, who is chatting with Hunter's beer in hand. I follow her line of sight, biting my lip as I wonder what that could be about.
“I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about, Jaden, like all alphas, probably just want to keep us safe. Sometimes it can be a little overbearing,” she nods, but I see her chew her lip as if it is more than that. “Jaden would tell you if it was anything to worry about,” Kara replies, patting Stacey’s arm as she nods. “You’re right. He just drives me crazy. I can’t tell some days if I want to kill him or kiss him,” she chuckles as I laugh, knowing exactly what she means. “Probably both knowing you,” her cheeks turn pink as she looks away from us and I see Jaden look up at her from below.
I always knew the mate bond was a powerful force to love another person so completely they are like an extension of your very soul. I was lucky enough to be given four mates, and I love each one equally and completely. They literally changed my world and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Each one is utterly perfect and balances our family just right. Sebastian is head of security, Ethan head of combat training, Caleb manages the books and keeps the pack in running order and Gabriel heads up the pack hospital. I make sure all of them don’t get stressed, keep the kids safe on top of my luna duties.
We have three little pups of our own. Luca, our eldest, is special. Selene said he would unite the packs. But gods never speak plainly. What they mean by ‘unite’… I’m terrified to find out. Our packs are untied through our conclave meetings and by blood, with my siblings mated in different packs. We have tried to strengthen to unions to protect Luca. I know at some point something will change to cause the shift where our alliances break down. I just want to give Luca as much time as possible before he takes this all on. I gnaw on my lip as I watch him walk around the pool before sitting down, dipping his legs in, his bright silver eyes shining in the sun.
It’s nice to see Luca as himself. With our family, he doesn’t have to hide. Because of his silver eyes that burning like liquid flame. Caleb had created some glasses for him to dull the colour to a mute grey. His aura rivals my four alpha mates - four grown alpha men, and he is only eight. The level of power in his little hands terrifies and overwhelms him. We all know he is safe here amongst family, those we trust the most, and he doesn’t have to hide. But I know it is only a matter of time before our pack and others begin to notice just how different he really is. That is something I am not ready for. His prophecy came from Selene herself and as much as I want to fight his battles for him, that would mean battling the actual gods to do so.
Each morning I wake praying no one will notice, no one will ask questions. Will see just how different he truly is. I see the curious looks in their eyes, the way the suspicion begins to seep in. It’s one thing for them to acknowledge that he is different. I have no idea what I will do if they see him as a threat.
The glasses Caleb created help but as wolves, it is rare to wear glasses and those add a layer of curiosity. For eight years we have managed to hide his eye colour and explained his incredible aura, strength and speed with the fact he is the first child to be born to five alphas. Our bond is rare and that helps. But when Logan and Violet came along, the difference between them is stark. I watch him as he sits by the pool, his sharp features set in a slight frown his dark blonde hair ruffled on top of his head as he looks at his cousin playing in the pool splashing each other and having fun.
He struggles so much to fit in and it drives his anger far more than anything else. He has ripped off cabinets and destroyed furniture when he gets annoyed. Only to break down afterwards because he feels like he can’t control it. He has a lot of power for someone so young. Gabriel has stitched us all up more times than I can count. To help Luca not feel so guilty and to hide to the pack his strength. Wolves heal quickly at the best of times. His strength is beyond most of our healing. But he is my baby boy and I wish more than anything he didn’t have this burden.
Aurora POVI waited with Stacey and Jaden whilst the vial went into her system. I knew Gabriel was nervous just from how I could feel that pent-up energy through the bond. That’s it — the bond.“Stacey, do you trust me?” I ask, pulling her focus back as she looks at me with her big blue eyes. “Of course I do.” She frowns slightly at the end, no doubt wondering where I am going with this. I hear Gabriel cough in warning after the bombs I just dropped on her moments ago. “I know you are struggling to remember Jaden, but surely you feel the bond between the two of you. Just close your eyes for a second.” She bites her lip nervously before she slowly closes her eyes. I turn to my brother and, signalling to him with my free hand, I suggest he strokes the mark Stacey gave him on his neck.Jaden looks mildly hopeful before he slowly brings his fingers up and strokes back and forth the spot where his mate bond is at the base of his neck. Stacey smiles instantly, her cheeks flushing pink as Ja
Gabriel POVI had been in my lab for the last few days as nothing I was trying helped with Stacey’s memory loss. If anything, she kept asking for her mum. Jaden was visibly tense, his need to be close to his mate but not wanting to feel the sting of her rejection every time she flinched or backed away from him. He had parked himself on a chair outside her room, close enough to keep him sane but not enough to sate the need for his mate. His constant fighting and growling every time one of my staff went to check on Stacey was becoming a problem. If they so much as carried her scent when they left or if he heard her laugh through the door, Jaden would then lay them out on the floor cold. I was running out of staff even wanting to bring Stacey food by this point.Kara had tried using her abilities but was just blocked the whole time. It was as if there was something surrounding Stacey’s mind, stopping Kara from getting in. She had gone for so many scans I was hoping to find some medical r
Sabastian POVI couldn’t stay in my brother’s room any longer; from the way Ethan was twitching, he wouldn’t last much longer. We both needed to get out of here before one of us cracked.“I should probably go and see if we can get a blood sample from the witch who blasted Stacey with her magic, it might be just the thing to her Gabriel heal her,” Kara muttered to Elio as the two of them began to leave.Twitching on my feet, I banished my shadows that were starting to cloud my brother’s private room. “I’ll help you look,” I offer as Elio arches a brow in my direction. He knows nothing, I tell myself.“Me too,” Ethan interjects, running to the door to open it before Kara and Elio get there. “Um … where do you think you’re going? Caleb needs you. I need you!” My kitten growls as I stop for a second, spinning to look at her. “Sorry kitten. We’ll be back; this won’t take long.” I give her an awkward smile, the others already out the door.Jaden stands in a cloud of smoke as we exit. Everyt
Jaden POV“What the hell are you doing?” Aurora shoves me aside. My hand tingles as I fight my wolf to stop his claws from unleashing and shredding them all to pieces. I can feel how he is pressing up against my skin, wanting blood. She doesn’t recognise me. My pumpkin … she doesn’t recognise me. It’s a gut punch, one I don’t think I will ever recover from. My mind replays the second her eyes open. Those sapphire blue eyes blinking up at me felt like my world had finally started to spin only to find a meteor crashing into it as she recoiled in fear. She even growled at me.Gabriel gets up off the floor, blood all down his white coat so it looks like a crime scene. In someways I guess it is. Aurora is glaring at me, and as she strides up to me, I narrowly miss her swing. Fuck. “What do you think you are doing?” She screams, all eyes turning towards us as Sabastian and Ethan choose that moment to return. Great, more of my sister’s mates to defend her.“Aurora.” I shake off her limbs lik
Gabriel POVThe ticking clock on the wall sounds like a drum of war. Too soon does the nurse return with Stacey’s blood work. It’s as I feared — completely clean. Swallowing, I head to the cupboard and pull out a tonic that will help wake her. The sooner I know what the damage is, the quicker I can deal with it.Jaden watches me like a hawk, causing my hands to shake as I fiddle with the cap on the bottle. I need to get to Caleb and Riley, but if she doesn’t wake up … I have no idea what spell the witch cast on Stacey. After seeing what she did to Dylan, anything is possible.Slowly, I walk over to the bed where Jaden is stroking back her hair, laying on the bed beside his mate. He whispers something in her ear before placing a swift kiss on her lips. The look he gives me when he pulls away screams, don’t fuck this up.“Lift her head slightly,” I ask as he does, being far more gentle than I knew him capable of. I guess when it comes to our mates, we are all capable of change. I tilt h
Gabriel POV The hospital erupted in pure chaos. Blood-soaked gurneys squealed down hallways as I mind-linked every doctor and nurse within reach, their thoughts flooding mine in a deafening wave of panic. We’d barely gotten Caleb, Stacey, and Riley here alive—Caleb’s limbs twisted at impossible angles, Riley in shock and loss of her mate, her eyes vacant. Jaden stalked me like a predator, his wolf energy crackling against my skin, demanding I save his mate first. I couldn’t refuse—Stacey had risked everything for me and Aurora, even though her body seemed the least ravaged by the attack.Stacey’s skin had gone gray against the white sheets, her chest barely rising. It wasn’t a great sign, but she wasn’t bleeding like the others. The oxygen mask fogged weakly with each shallow breath, the heart monitor’s erratic beeping a countdown I couldn’t stop hearing. “When. Will. She. Wake. Up?” Jaden’s words weren’t a question but a threat, his hot breath hitting my neck as his claws partially
