LUCY
Thankfully it was dark, when I made my escape, diving into the pool and no one could register my face, even if they did, they would barely remember what I looked like . When I heard the policemen's voice, I knew I could not remain in that room. It was one thing to have my cover blown and another to be caught. If they had caught me and identified me as the Night Star, I might as well kiss my freedom goodbye.I was never seeing the light of day again, even if the ace of spade tried to use their influence.Desperate times really called for desperate measures. I had no idea how I had been able to achieve that feat of escaping even though I was tied to a chair, thankfully Armando's room had a pool side view. But that feat, though successful, had resulted in many bruises and an almost broken bone. I limped hurriedly, and hopped on my bike parked a few streets away from the hotel and sped off as fast as I could, desperate to reach home . I was fucking tired and exhausted, This mission turned out to be more difficult than I pictured it .I released a sigh of utmost relief as soon as I arrived my house packing lot. "About fucking time."I opened it with a special card only I had access to. It was a small house but I loved how quiet and isolated it was. I flicked on the lights as soon as I was inside and after making sure the door was securely locked, I made my way to the bathroom to get the first aid kit.The phone rang. I decided to ignore it at first but the incessant shrilling sound it made as I cleaned my wounds grated my ears and was increasing my anger. I went to get it. "Hello.""The boss wants to speak with you." The voice belonged to the same guy who had called to notify me of this job, alpha Jax right hand man.My stomach clenched in nerves. I had never failed a job before. Not once in my life. But this had taken a completely different turn I never expected it to. My head was spinning with lots of probabilities which only managed to further annoy me.I never had to deal with probabilities or maybes. Every mission was always a certainty and a confident yes."Night Star." From the Alpha's tone, I knew this was not going to be good. Had he heard? How?Still, I maintained composure. He might not be aware yet. "Good evening, Alpha.""What happened at that hotel this evening?" His question left no room for lies. But I would still not take the bait. It was better to play this smart than stupid."What do you mean, Alpha?""Are you silly? ,don't try to play with my intelligence. its all over the news , you thought i wouldnt find out?" He was angry now.But wait, what did he say about news? What news? Oh my God! No, it could not be, could it? Without meaning to, I ended the call and rushed as fast as my limping legs could carry to the remote on the small coffee table and switched on the TV."... exactly at seven forty five pm, the police department was notified of a break-in into continental hotel. The receptionist is said to have been subdued with a tranquilizer after the medical team was called in to revive her from an unconscious state. Furthermore, a figure was captured sneaking into the hotel's elevator and coming out of it on the eleventh floor...."The reporter's calm, composed voice was drowned out by the pounding in my heart and the roar of my blood. Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! The Alpha was not going to like this.Fuck me! I didn't like this either. The Alpha? That was when I realized I had abruptly ended the call and now the phone was ringing. Feeling more apprehensive, I could not quite maintain that composure I had begun with. "Sorry for that, Alpha.""What exactly are you sorry for?" He was still angry. It was even a wonder I was not hearing the shattering of glasses and any delicate what not he could get his hands on."For hanging up on you." I knew he was also talking about my inefficiency of this job."Do you still want the freedom you so desire, Lucy?"He almost never called me by my name, unless he was really upset and disappointed. And he was conspicuously those and more."Of course, I do Alpha, I want it more than anything. Please give me some time I can still rectify the issue." Could I? Even after finding out he was my fated mate, could I still rectify it?, could they really kill Armando?.Though he had seemed less concerned about the mate bond but I had seen how affected he had been when I had mentioned the word 'mate'.Also, it could be me just thinking it but Armando did not seem like the guy who would hesitate to do whatever he set his mind to do. He wanted to drive in that knife into me, I saw it in his eyes. But he had stopped. Also, if he really wanted to hurt me, he would have killed me with that bullet. I was powerless and couldn't do anything ,tied to that chair. He probably knew his way around guns and triggers, he was not a fool to have missed, or was it just a bad shooter?.Despite the gravity of the situation, a smile sneaker up its own to spread my lips. Maybe he wanted the bond too. I would not lie, I wanted the bond. It was what I had prayed for most of my life and now it was here. He was here."Are you listening to me, Lucy?!" The angry growl of the Alpha had me jolting out of my momentarily smitten state to face reality."Y-yes, Alpha." I hope he did not have to ask me what he had said because I had no idea." I need an explanation for what happened back there, it's not safe for us to be seen together until this whole situation goes under the radar anyone could be watching, so I'll suggest we meet at the forthcoming gala its in two days time , it's going to be masked party , you better show up and on time ." He said with the air if finality.Wait, what? "Uhmwhat gala, Alpha?""So you've not been listening." He sounded like he was about to go off into another stream of anger but he just sighed. "Gala. Two days' time , every other details you need to know, would be sent to you through encrypted messages.""Okay, Alpha." I nodded obediently even though he could not see me."And Night Star?" Expectations coated his words."Yes, Alpha." My gaze fixed itself on the TV. The reporter woman was still talking. The hotel was behind her. Strangely drawn to a particular window, I fastened my stare on it."You'll rectify this issue as you've promised, won't you?"I swallowed. "Yes, Alpha.""Good. We'll talk more at the gala."And the line went dead with the phone limp in my hand. My eyes were still on the screen.Armando González, why are you my last target?Lucy“We have your mother, Jax. You wouldn't want to do anything stupid.” The three of us were out, Luciana had her hold on the woman who still had her grip on the detonator.“Why did you come here, mom? How did you even find out about this place? When did you even arrive the city?”“I have my ways, Jax and I came here for you. I heard everything. I won’t let them take your throne away.”“But you risked your life!” Jax seemed confused in that moment.I looked around and couldn't find Seth.“Where’s Seth? Is he no longer on your side?”He glowered and growled. “Why don’t you go ask his dead body lying alongside others in that building!”I observed Luciana’s face, her expression was blank. Well, I had thought she would be sad by the news at least, she’d known him from years back.“So you’ve not had enough of us, huh? You came back for more?” I eyed his frail state. He was severely injured and was just holding on for dear life.He was just as stupid as his mother. Though they had wasted
Lucy“Hi. You said you wanted to see us.” I could not help stiffening my tone the moment we entered the living room and I spotted the woman who appeared to be in her late forties to early fifties. But I could see where Alpha Jax had gotten his features from. One glance and you would know she was not lying about being his mother.“Yes. Oh Mother of the Moon!” She exclaimed in shock seeing Luciana beside me. “Who’s Lucielle and who’s Luciana?”“I’m Lucy, not Lucielle and she’s Luciana.” I clarified.“No, Lucy’s for short. Your name is Lucielle. Your parents named you after your twin grandmothers, from your maternal side.” Her face fell as she said this.Luciana and I looked at each other, then at Armando before finally settling on the woman again. She was richly dressed but her emotions were on display. It made me wonder.“You seem to know a lot about us than we know of ourselves.” Luciana chipped in, she had pulled me to seat with her.Armando took the seat beside me. “What would you l
Lucy“How are you, Teck?” I carried the tray containing his breakfast to him. I had offered and lifted it out of the maid’s hands that had been bringing him his food.He was awake and seating but with lots of pillows propping his sides. He offered me a pallid smile. “Fine, thank you.”I dropped the tray before him. “Here’s breakfast.”“You made it yourself?” He asked, a bit surprised.I quirked a brow. “You think I can’t whip up a meal?”He chuckled lightly. “I didn’t say that. Thank you.”“How are you healing? How’s the ribs?” I asked, helping him stay stable so he could eat.“It still hurts.” He said.I sat back down on the bed. “I’m sorry Armando and I didn’t listen to you. You would not be in this situation if we had carried you along.”He shook his head. "It's okay. On the bright side, you met your sister.”“Yes, I did. You know, she said she agreed to kidnap you because she wanted to meet me.” I told him.During our conversation yesterday, she had confessed the reason she had ag
“After I was adopted, things were fine until two years later when they finally had their own child. They changed. I was sixteen and depressed. They treated me more like a maid or nanny, sometimes both. I didn’t complain about the nanny part because I loved the baby.”She drew a breath in. We were currently in the living room, we just finished dinner. It was time for some truth telling.“I had always been this strong, I realized. So one day, I returned home from school. As usual, the wife left the baby with me and went out. The house was left in disarray as it usually was, I cleaned and cooked my lunch. By the time I was done, I was tired. I fed the baby too.”“How cruel can some people be?” I could not believe this. Why bother go for a child if you didn’t want them? She shrugged. “I don’t know. So I fell asleep doing my assignment. Next thing, I was being woken up and accused of trying to kill their baby. I had no idea he was choking on his vomit.”“They accused you?”She looked at me
When the vehicle finally drove into the hotel, I was exhausted enough to fall asleep while also still incensed enough to punch someone to death.Luciana and I stepped out of the vehicle. I had a cut around my neck and waist, Luciana came out just fine.We had decided not to say anything until Armando was present. This whole saga was no longer just about me but him too.“Is it wise to return to the hotel where the guy was kidnapped?” Luciana asked. The guy that had driven us was one of Armando’s men.“Yes, boss.” He stepped out of the car. “Oh okay boss.” He put his phone back into his pocket. “Boss says he’s gone back home and I should bring you there. He said not to worry that he already cleared both rooms and lodged you out.”“That’s better.” Luciana climbed back into the backseat.I went back to the passenger seat and strapped in. The drive back to Armando’s home was quiet. I occasionally threw a glance at the back, I could still not believe I had a sister. A family. It was all so
“What the hell are you playing at, Jax?” Armando was not just angry, he was furious.I closed my mouth.“Hello sister.” She smiled.I did not need a soothsayer to get the story. “So you killed Zara.”“Smart, I like.” She beamed as though this was a party where everyone was mingling and telling their comical life stories.“I already know your friendship with Zara. What kind of friend kills their best friend?”“I needed the money. The Alpha was ready to pay, so what’s the big deal?”“I am so glad I never got to know you. You’re evil! You had a family!”“And you know that because?” She took steps towards me. She had the same brown tresses as I did. We were same height and I could guess we would fit in the same clothes.“Because I did a background check on you three.” I cast a glance Seth’s way.I turned to Alpha Jax. “How many other missions did you send her while you deceived me into going? Why did you even asked me to in the first place? You could have asked her to go without putting m
