Hello. My name is Sylvester and I am twenty-six years old.
This is a book about my revenge on my father-in-law Mr. Adams, for what he had done to my mother. I hope this teaches you all, the readers, how to treat people. You'll never what the future might bring.
It all started a long time ago when I was only eighteen my name was Dave...
Dave POV...
"Mother I'm off to work now," I said.
"Won't you at least have something to eat first? It's not good to work on an empty stomach." My mother said.
"No mother. I'm almost late for work and my boss doesn't like it whenever I arrive late." I replied and ran out of the house.
I understand that I have to eat something but my mother is very important to me. I can't imagine what will happen to me if I ever lose her. We are very poor and hardly eat two square meals a day. My father used to have a job and a salary good enough to feed us three but one days he died in a car crash. Everything I and my mother ever had was seized from us. Ever since then, I and my mother have been wallowing in poverty. I managed to get a small paying job and I've been keeping myself and my mother alive for two years now.
I'm finally on my way to work.
"Hey! Dave! Wait up!" Hilton yelled from behind me.
Hilton is my best friend. He is not poor as I and my mother. Hilton lives in a big house with his parents. His parents hate seeing me around him. They keep saying that I will affect him with my stench of poverty but we are friends anyways. Hilton is hard-headed towards his parents when it comes to me.
I waited for him at the side of the road.
"Good morning Hilton," I said to him.
"Good... Morning..." Hilton said while gasping for breath.
"Why were you running after me like that?" I asked.
"I just want to follow you to work today," Hilton replied.
"Don't you have to be somewhere else?" I said.
"Where?" Hilton asked.
"In the school of course," I answered.
"It's Saturday today. No school." Hilton replied.
"Oh. I forgot." I said and start to walk to my working place.
I work as a mechanic in a small working space. The environment is not bad, that's pretty much the reason we get many customers.
"Don't worry, we are almost there. I know you are very tired" I said to Hilton who already looks very tired.
"Me? Tired? How pathetic. I can do this all day." Hilton replied.
"Sure you can," I said sarcastically.
"Oh, what's the use of pretending? I feel so tired. My legs are already very weak as well." Hilton admitted.
"I knew it," I said in satisfaction.
"You win. I must admit, you know me better than I know myself." Hilton said.
We finally reached my workplace and my boss is already looking very annoyed.
"You are late Dave." My boss said.
He comes closer to me.
"Again!" He added, yelling into my face.
"Sorry boss. I promise you it won't happen again. It's just that I live so far away and I don't even have money for transport." I said.
My boss is a very good person. It's just that he hates any sign of laziness.
"You will work double today as your punishment." My boss said.
"Yes sir," I replied with my head down.
"Good morning sir." Hilton greeted.
"Good morning. What can I do for you?" My boss asked Hilton.
"Sorry, sir. I didn't come to work. I only came here to spend the day with my friend." Hilton said.
My boss turns to me.
"Does this look like a place you bring friends over to play?" My boss asked me.
"No sir," I replied.
"I didn't bring him here for play sir," I added.
"Oh really?" My boss asked.
"Yes sir," I answered.
"Then why is he here?" My boss asked.
"To study sir," Hilton answered immediately.
"Study?" My boss asked.
"Yes. Study." Hilton answered.
"How? Do you think you can full me? If you are here to study, you would be with your notebook. And I don't see anything in your hands. " My boss said.
"It doesn't require a notebook sir. I was only told to observe how work is done in a mechanic workshop." Hilton replied.
"Okay then. If you say so." My boss replies and leaves.
"You never told me you had homework," I said.
"I don't," Hilton replied.
"Huh?" I said, very confused.
"It was only an excuse I made up to get you off the hook." Hit on replied.
"I can't believe you thought of a lie that fast. And that too without looking guilty at all." I said in amazement.
"Remember how I told you I want to become a high-class businessman when I grow up?" Hilton asked.
"Yes I remember," I answered.
"Don't you think I've been preparing for it?" Hilton asked.
"Ha ha ha." I laughed.
"Hey! Dave! Get to work and stop goofing around." My boss yelled and I immediately start to work.
Working as a mechanic is a very stressful and tiring job. Removing car parts, attaching spare parts, fixing the car's engine, and all that stuff.
The only thing keeping me going is my plan for a better life for my mother.
Anytime I feel any weakness I always put my mother first.
Whenever I'm working it's just as if... it just feels as if my mother is cheering me on. Telling me... Son, don't give up, you will make it in this life.
I love my mother so much, too much. If anything ever happens to her my whole life would be ruined.
"How come every mechanic I see here is dirty?" Hilton asked.
"It's because of the kind of work we do. How do you expect to look when all day you are fixing the interiors of different cars?" I said.
"I still think you can all try to maintain cleanliness," Hilton said.
"No matter how careful you are you would still get dirty," I replied.
Adams POV... "Bring me my coffee!" I yelled to my errand boy. He stagers into my office with the coffee in his hand. He puts it on my table and leaves. With my concentration on the laptop I was operating, I used my left hand to pick up the cup of coffee and sipped it. I spit out the coffee immediately after it touched my tongue. "Henry!" I shouted. "Yes sir?" He answers from outside my office and enters. "What sort of coffee is this?!" I yelled. "Uh... The creamy type sir?" He answered, not even sure of what he was saying. "I said black coffee! I never asked you to add cream to it!" I yelled in anger. "I'm so sorry sir. Please forgive me." He pleaded. "I don't even know what to do with you! You are so useless!" I told him. "You never get anything right! Now leave my office you fool!" I added and he runs out. "What an idiot. Always distracted and lazy and of course, he just had to be clumsy too. I said his name almost five times and when he finally comes he mes
"Please, madam. If you take that money from me I and my mother might starve to death." I begged the woman. "You should have thought about that before owing that much money. Now, I will not give you and your mother anything till you pay off your debt." The woman replied. "But madam..." I said. "That's enough!" She cuts me off. She had already created a scene and a lot of people are gathered around us. Some of them kept saying that the woman should let me have the money back but most people said that I have no shame and that I should pay the woman her money. I didn't know what next to do. I felt like disappearing right that very moment. "Hey. What's going on here?" A man's voice said. Charles POV I was just passing by an area with my car after leaving a meeting with some clients when I saw a crowd gathered. I wanted to leave but then I saw people yelling at a boy. I decided to go and check what was happening. "Hey. What's going on here?" I asked. "This boy owes me
Dave POV I'm so happy I've found something else to do as my job. And Mr. Charles? He's just such a nice man. He even offered to buy me some clothes. "Thank you so much sir," I said and entered his car. I sure hope this job doesn't require much brain work. I'm not that educated. I stopped going to school the moment my father died. And I didn't get a chance to enter the university of my dreams. "So, what's your shoe size?" He asked me. "I've not paid attention to that," I replied. He must have noticed my exceedingly worn-out shoes. I started feeling like I wouldn't stand a chance of getting that job. After all, I can't keep wearing just one set of clothes and people there won't notice. We reached a big shop and he tells me to come down from the car and I did. "I'm going to park my car. I'll be back in a minute." He said. I stood there in astonishment staring at the building. Mr. Charles cane back. "This is a boutique." He said and I nodded. We went into the boutiqu
I've gotten the job and it still wows me. I thought it would be that kind of interview where they ask professional questions but this was different. Just a test and I passed. "The job is very simple. All you have to do is sit on the best very close to his office and ensure to answer him immediately he calls you." Mr. Charles said. "Okay, sir. I will do my best." I replied. "I hope you have a good hearing because Mr. Adams doesn't like to call more than once or twice." He said. "Yes sir. And I'm very fast." I replied. "That's good. It will help a lot. Follow me. I'll give you a tour of the company." He said. "Okay sir," I replied and followed. Soon enough the tour was over. Mr. Charles told me to sit at my desk till Mr. Adams calls me. He goes in to tell Mr. Adams he was done with me and then comes out and goes to his desk. I sat there for almost an hour before Mr. Adams finally calls. "Dave!" He said. " Yes sir," I answered immediately and went to his office. "
Anna POV My son, Dave, just came back and he told me how his day went. I had been waiting for him for so long that I forgot to go and buy us something to eat. I took some money out of the one Mr. Charles gave us and left the house. I was walking on my own when I saw two men who seemed to be drunk coming out of the bar ahead. I had no other choice but to pass there anyway. Besides, the other road that led to the shop I was heading to was abandoned and bushy. So I took the risk and walked passed by them. "Hey!... Hey!... " I heard one of them yell after me and I walked faster and faster. I was scared and wanted to look back to see if I was followed but thankfully I wasn't. The next day, I woke my son up early. I didn't need to stress much because it seemed as if he was about to wake up on his own already. "Good morning mother." He said with a yawn. "Good morning son. How was your night?" I asked. "It was a sweet and lovely mother." He replied. I wanted to tell him abo
"Really?" I asked Mr Charles. "Yes." He replied. I can't believe that I, Dave, has already gotten the attention of the boss. "Wow. How lucky am i?" I asked rhetorically. "Very lucky." He answered anyway. We both laughed. We reached the office and he dropped me like before and went to park his car. I waited for him and we entered the company together. I'm so happy that I have such good people around me. Mr Charles went to his desk and I went to mine. It didn't take take long before I was called by Mr Adams. Thank goodness I came on time because by the look on his face, he isn't happy at all. Only God knows what he would have done to me if I was a second late. "Dave!" He called. "Yes sir." I answered as I rushed into his office. "Take these papers and burn them outside!" He ordered. I quickly collected the papers from him and ran outside to burn them. After I was done I went back to my seat. Thank goodness there was a tea stand outside. I don't know wher
Charles' POVMr Adams just left me in charge of everything while he left the company happily with Dave.I haven't seen this side of Mr Adams before. He looked so happy. I just hope the relationship they have between them becomes something of benefit to this company and not it's downfall.Well, however it may end, I still have work to do.Hilton POV"No mom! What happened to the University we have here!?" I said in anger."We know what's good for you Hilton and that university isn't good enough for you." My mom replied."Really? You want what's best for me? Or maybe you just want to push me as far away as you can from Dave?" I replied."That's enough Hilton! Not a single word! You are going to study abroad and that's final." My dad yelled."But... But..." I said."Not a single word young man. I know you only want to attend the university here so yo
Adams POVWhen I arrived at Dave's place I started thinking about the beautiful woman again. This place reminds me of her. It was just a bit farther away I saw her. I just can't seem to take my mind off her. Since the night I set my eyes on her she has been stuck in my mind. Why was she hiding from me in the morning? Perhaps she just recognized me as the drunk man who was after her.One thing is for sure. I must have her. Such a woman must not go to waste.I heard a loud clap and jolted out of my thoughts."What did you do that for?" I asked Dave who clapped at my face."I'm sorry sir but I've been calling you for the past five minutes but you weren't responding." He replied."Oh. I'm sorry about that, I was just thinking about... Something." I replied in a not so convincing tone."Okay sir. Good night." He said."Good night and goodbye." I replied and drove off.
