~DAMIAN’S POV~

I suddenly jumped so quickly that the cigarette nearly flew right out of my hand.

“You WHAT?!”

I started pacing back and forth, trying to rein in my rising anger as I clenched my fists and took deep breaths.

“How the fuck could you sign off on that without talkin’ to me first? That’s not just family drama, Elis, that’s the company! My company! The one I built from nothin’ while she was off fuckin’ crypto boys in Mykonos!”

“I know, I know—” His voice cracked.

“She kept saying how proud she was, how she wanted to be part of our legacy, how she’d finally come home if we let her in. I thought… I thought if I gave her something real, she’d stay.”

“How many shares?” I demanded, stopping dead in front of him.

He looked down, cheeks flushing with embarrassment.

“Seven percent,” he muttered softly, his voice barely above a whisper.

Seven. Percent.

I ran a hand through my hair and let out a quick, bitter laugh.

“Seven percent of D.T. Tech? Jesus, Elis.”

“I’m sorry!” His voice tre

~DAMIAN’S POV~I was out on the backyard terrace, the one that costs more than most people’s houses. The white tiles felt cool under my bare feet while the glass balustrade glowed gently in the fading sunlight. There was a long teak table that could seat twenty comfortably, and a built-in wine fridge hummed softly nearby.Ahead of me, the lawn rolled out like a beautiful, lush green carpet, big enough to comfortably host at least five hundred guests tomorrow night. The air smelled like freshly cut grass, salt from the ocean two miles away, and the final sip of Moët I had just killed. The sky had gone from crystal blue to blood-orange while I sat there nursing the dead bottle.I’d lost track of time. Hours, probably. Long enough for the bottle to go from full to corpse.I tipped the empty flute back anyway, like there might be one last drop hiding. Nothin’.Day-drinking my feelings used to be an old, ugly habit I kicked two years ago. But it took one conversation with Evelyn fucking Mo

CINDY’S POVHow could a mother hate her own child this much?I’d been standing there maybe ten minutes, and even a blind man could have seen the venom dripping off Evelyn every time her eyes landed on Damian. It wasn’t indifference. It was disgust.Like he was a stain she was still furious she couldn’t scrub out.I glanced at him.His eyes were glassy, jaw twitching as he watched Elis get smothered with kisses and cuddles by the same woman who had just told him never to call her “Mother” again. My chest ached so bad for him.I knew she walked out when they were kids, but I’d always thought it was some messy divorce thing, not… this. Not favoritism so deeply ingrained that it still bled nine years later. What could a little boy possibly have done to deserve this? “Elis,” Damian finally said, his voice trembling like fragile ice as he fought to keep the tears back. Elis planted one last loud kiss on Evelyn’s cheek and turned, grinning like he’d just won the lottery. “Damian, loo

~DAMIAN’S POV~“Mom?”The word came out smaller than I intended.Sounded like the kid I used to be, standin’ in the doorway with my backpack still on, watchin’ her zip that last Louis Vuitton shut.Nine years.Nine damn years since she walked out on us. Nine years of her jet-settin’ around the world with a new boyfriend every season, never once pickin’ up the phone to check if her sons were even breathin’.Nine years of me tellin’ myself I didn’t care, while I secretly checked her stories on a burner account like some pathetic creep. And now she’s here.My heart slammed so hard I felt it in my teeth. Cindy’s hand was in mine, but I couldn’t feel my fingers. Everything tunneled to those eyes, starin’ back at me, cold and measurin’, like she was decidin’ whether I’d grown into somethin’ worth her time yet. She didn’t blink for a long thirty seconds. Just burned that old hole straight through me, same way she did when I was sixteen, beggin’ and askin’ why she didn’t love us enough to

~CINDY’S POV~Her commanding voice sent a jolt through me. I quickly straightened, wiped the last tear off my cheek, and cleared my throat loudly.“Of course, Attorney Blake.”“Good. Vicky ran me through the whole history, but I need to ask you some questions myself. Note that this call is documented as evidence for future reference.”“No problem.”“Perfect. So tell me, are you truly divorcing your husband of three years, Ms. Hart?”I swallowed hard, rubbing my free hand on my lap nervously. What’s wrong with you, Cindy? You’ve made up your mind to do this. Her voice crackled back. “Think deeply about your answers, Ms. Hart. No rush.”I sucked in a sharp breath. “Yes, Attorney Blake. I’m divorcing him.”“Are you certain? If it’s a minor issue that can be resolved amicably, I suggest you consider it carefully.”“Amicably?” I took in a deep breath, the weight of it all pressing down on my shoulders like a rock.“Would you be amicable with the person plotting your death?”She paused brie

CINDY’S POV My brain flat-lined for a split second. Then Nancy’s words slammed back into my skull like a gunshot. “…the room he’ll be sharing with me tonight?” Excuse me? “You say?!” I barked, forgetting I was supposed to be Peony and that none of this should matter to me. But fuck Peony. Fuck the whole plan. This is my Damian we’re talking about. Ain’t no damn bitch sharing a room with him! Nancy’s smile turned syrupy. “You heard me, Peony. Damian and I are bunking together in that cute little suite. Come on, Dam-Dam, let’s go see!” She squealed, tugging his arm like a kid with a new toy. I didn’t say a word. Just hit him with the deadliest glare I’ve ever cooked up: Move and you’re dead, Thorne. He froze, rooted to the ground. Then, without a word, he jerked out of her grip, smoothing his shirt as if her touch left stains. He turned to Elis, who was still lost in his AURA bubble, fiddling with the remote. “Elis, what the heck is this? Why’d you set up so
