DAMIAN’S POV

As much as I tried to hold it together in that boardroom, the second the break was called and I stepped out, something inside me snapped.

The corridor blurred around me as I walked faster, shoulders hunched and hands clenched into fists at my sides to stop them from shaking.

I found the executive restroom at the end of the hall and slipped inside, turning the lock with a soft click.

The moment the door sealed shut, my back hit it hard, and I slid down slowly, the polished wood cool against my suit jacket as my legs gave out beneath me.

A sob tore its way out of my chest before I could stop it, deep and guttural, the kind that starts in your gut and rips everything open on its way up.

Hot tears spilled over without permission, tracing burning paths down my cheeks, and I didn’t even bother wiping them away.

My body shook with the force of it, shoulders heaving and breath coming in ragged gasps that filled the tiled room.

The betrayal crashed over me like a wave.

DAMIAN’S POV I slumped into the chair like my body weighed twice what it used to, arms heavy on the armrests, head tilted just enough that my temple rested against my knuckles. I sat still, watching everything unfold like a corpse that hadn’t figured out it was dead yet. The meeting started up again, voices filling the room, but it all sounded far away, like I was underwater, listening to the world carry on without me. I didn’t speak. I just sat there, eyes half-open, watching them like they were characters in some show I didn’t care about anymore. The big screen lit up with the Zoom grid, boxes popping in one by one. The Singapore crew looked serious as always. The UK folks were also present, but I noticed there were only two UK boxes instead of three. Lena Voss’s spot was empty. I scoffed inwardly. Even her vote, the one I thought I could count on, wasn’t there. My lawyer from London was squeezed into a corner of the screen, looking all stern and confident. Corporate cou

DAMIAN’S POVFor a second, everything went quiet, like the world had paused just to let them sink in deeper.“We were never of the same blood, Damian. We are of different fathers.”I staggered back hard, my hip hitting the edge of the desk behind me, knocking a stack of files to the floor and sending a coffee mug crashing down as I caught myself on the wood to keep from going down completely. My eyes went wide, my breath stuck somewhere in my throat, and I stared at him, at both of them, like I was seeing ghosts. The room felt too small all of a sudden, the walls pressing in, and for a moment I couldn’t find any words at all.“What do you mean?” I finally managed, my voice coming out rough and barely above a whisper.Evelyn stepped forward before Elis could answer, her heels clicking slowly across the floor, that satisfied little smile playing on her lips like she’d been waiting years to drop this bomb.“What he means,” she began, “is that you’re not brothers. You never were.”A cold

DAMIAN’S POVElis tilted his head slightly, that smug flicker of amusement crossing his face before vanishing behind the same blank mask he’d worn all day.“Okay, big bro,” he said. “Go on. Talk.”I let out a short, bitter laugh under my breath.“Callin’ me big bro when you clearly don’t see me as one anymore? That’s low, Elis. Real low. What the hell got into you?”I kept my voice steady, even though everything inside me twisted tighter.“How could you go this far? You’re trying to take the company from me? Seriously, man, I never thought you had it in you.”He didn’t move, didn’t blink, just looked straight at me like I was some stranger off the street.“And now I have,” he said softly, calm as anything. “What are you going to do about it?”The words landed hard, heavy. For a second, the room felt like it shifted under my feet, but I locked my knees and stayed where I was, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me sway.I let a little sarcastic chuckle slip out. “Seriously?

DAMIAN’S POV“What the fuck!” My voice cracked through the room.Interim Chief Executive Officer???Elis Thorne???I sprang from my chair so violently that it rolled back and crashed into the wall behind me, the sound echoing like a gunshot in the sterile silence. My hands slammed down on the table, my palms stinging from the impact.“What the hell did you just say? You want to strip me of my role as CEO? From my own company? This has to be a fucking sick joke!”Andrew Sphere didn’t flinch. He just regarded me with that cool, detached stare, like I was a malfunctioning asset on a balance sheet.“Yes, Mr. Thorne. We are relieving you of your duties and installing a more stable interim leader until you have regained your footing.”“Regained my footing?” I laughed, but it came out sharp and bitter.“This is bullshit. Complete and utter bullshit.”Sandra Mayor leaned forward, her expression a mix of pity and disdain.“It has come to our attention, Mr. Thorne, that you are in the midst of

DAMIAN’S POVAn hour later the Rolls glided into the private underground garage of DT Tech’s Texas headquarters in Austin.Martin killed the engine beside the glass elevator bay and glanced at me in the rear-view.I caught my own reflection in the tinted window and almost didn’t recognize the man staring back.On the outside I looked like the billionaire CEO the world expected. But Inside I’m still the drunk on the hotel floor begging into a dead phone. At least I didn’t smell like a distillery anymore.I stepped out, my Louboutin Oxfords clicking sharply against the floor, and that was when I saw them: Elis climbing out of his matte-black G-Wagon two spots over, and right behind him the devil herself.Evelyn. Looking dangerous in a bloody red Chanel suit with her hair twisted into that perfect chignon she wore whenever she was about to ruin someone’s life.My stomach knotted so hard I could taste bile. What the hell is she doing here?Dad’s warning echoed in my head: Be careful of E
