Chapter 1 No Way

ผู้เขียน: Luna
Wrong number? As if. That spot was expensive. It was the most premium package my sister, Jessie Gibson, saved me right after she knew I was pregnant. She even called me to talk about it. I could just move in for free.

I confirmed and reconfirmed when the care center called me. And now that spot was stolen. This was not something I would stand for.

My husband, William, objected to me going to the care center. "Hey, the other ladies can stay at home, so why can't you? Why do you have to go to that care center?"

Because I could. Why shouldn't I? I ignored him and got an Uber to the care center.

The driver got me there in twenty minutes. There were potential clients asking about the packages they offered.

It took a while, but the reception was finally quiet, so I went and asked for answers. "Hi, I'm Selene Tousson, William Melson's wife, the one you called earlier. You wanted my opinion on your service."

The receptionist gave me a weird look. "Mrs. Melson? But you've gone back to your room."

My face fell. The receptionist continued, "And she even thanked us for our perfect service."

That woman used my name. I clenched my teeth. "But I'm the actual client. I'm Selene Tousson."

The receptionist sized me up, and her eyes filled with disdain. "Are you trying to cause a scene? Must be another one of those who can't afford our prices. Mrs. Melson came with her husband. We know Mr. Melson well enough. He's the one we've been talking to all this time. Stop pestering us."

Wow, that was shocking. I just found out my husband now belonged to someone else.

Just when I was going to press for answers, someone came out of the elevator. Someone I knew. A 900-thousand-dollar bracelet hung around her wrist. The bracelet my brother gave me. And a pendant hung from her neck. A million-dollar pendant that my sister gave me.

Though she was in a patient's gown, her hair was delicately kept up. This was an intern working in my husband's company, Melanie Crossfire.

The receptionist pointed at her. "That's Mrs. Melson. Now I suggest you leave."

I did not move. Instead, I looked at Melanie darkly. She met my eyes, and horror crept up onto her face. In a hurry, she moved toward me. "W-What are the odds, Selene? You're moving in too?"

She pushed me into a corner. "We'll take this elsewhere. Don't want to get in the way of their work."

What a joke. She usually called me Selly, but now she called me something else just to ward off suspicion. And to think she was always so friendly around me.

I said no. The meeting might make me throw up.I asked Timothy, "So, can you get back the money they stole?""For the most part, no. They'd spent it all, and they're broke," he answered.I felt guilty about that. Part of it was my fault. I got William into the company.Timothy said, "You majored in computer science and aced the subjects. We need someone to develop AI robots. If you really want to… redeem yourself, help me out."I said yes. Timothy only wanted me to get over this mess as soon as possible. I knew I'd hurt them a little with how distant I tried to be because of the complicated situation named our family, but now I wouldn't do it again. So I put all my efforts into development. Work was busy enough to take my mind off the mess I'd gone through.Jessie would show up from time to time. "I've tightened the verification process for every client. No one's going to steal anyone's spot from now on," she said."Is your business affected or anything? You know, after that

"It's all her! She lied to me!"Melanie could not believe what she was hearing. William was pinning all the blame on her.I thought it was laughable. William was nothing but a selfish man who only loved himself. Now he was trying to use his connection with me to weasel his way out. "Timothy, we're family. Just give me a chance. I swear, I'll treat Selene like a queen. And her baby…"He pointed a finger at Melanie. "She killed her baby, so Selene can take hers!"What? That was unbelievable. The bastard would have me raise his mistress' child? And I thought he was already low enough. Now the bar was sinking straight into the underworld.I hissed, "No, you can keep the child. And we're not family. My attorney's drafting the papers as we speak. We're getting a divorce!"William wasn't going to agree to that. "I won't sign the papers!"I looked away. "Doesn't matter." My voice was ice-cold.The cops took William and Melanie away for investigation purposes. Timothy and Jessie took tu

Melanie came out from behind him. "Yeah, Selene. Couples are a team. William fell out of love with you a long time ago, but he stayed with you out of duty. You set him up instead. This is unbelievable. And he nearly thought I was the villain."That idiot bought Melanie's story without even thinking it through. She probably spent ten seconds on that. I looked at him, my mockery obvious."I didn't help you? Do you really think you got that manager job through merit? Please, you said it yourself. When you thought Melanie was Timothy's sister, you told everyone you got in with her help. "Now that the truth is out, just because the one who helped was me, you threw my favor into the bin."William went red and white with fury, but not a single comeback came out of his mouth.I pressed my advantage. "Staying with me out of duty? Please, you told everyone Melanie is your wife, while I was nothing but a crazy, delusional bitch. You even got our baby killed!"His pupils shrank. "The baby's

That convinced William. Once again, he tried to talk to Jessie, thinking he was only trying to help. "Ms. Gibson, I don't know what kind of lies this crazy woman told you to make you help her, but she's not worth it."He pushed Melanie ahead. "This is the sister of Pioneer Technologies' CEO. You must've seen her before. She'd seen you as well. She knows you have no sister."Okay, that not only shocked me. Jessie was stunned as well. Pioneer Technologies' CEO was my brother, Timothy Crossfire. We had different family names because of a complicated situation. My sister laughed mirthlessly. "She's Mr. Crossfire's sister?"In his infinite wisdom, William nodded. "Yes. So please, stop helping that woman. Melanie used Selene's name to get a slot because they were all sold out. Who knows how that bitch got that slot? Maybe she stole Melanie's slot first. Please, forgive us."Jessie wasted not a single word on them. She called my brother. "Hey, Timothy, didn't know you had another sister

The receptionists' reaction proved that the lady who came in owned this place. The crowd stared at one another in silence. They realized I might be the real Selene."Wait, so she wasn't lying? The mistress stole her identity and took her spot here?""And her husband's helping the side chick. Man, the guy's a bastard.""Oh dear, this is sad."The crowd's disdain for me turned into pity and sympathy. They were also mothers, so cheaters and mistresses were on top of their list of undesirables.Their whispers turned into blatant insults. The guards let me go immediately and did not move another muscle.Jessie darted ahead, trying to pick me up. However, the moment she extended her hand, William grabbed it. "Ms. Gibson, wonderful to meet you. Sorry to cause a scene at your premises. I'll get rid of this crazy woman immediately. So, who's your sister? We can help her out while you're gone."Melanie stepped ahead. "Yeah. She's already unlucky enough, running into a cheating husband."

"Please, have some dignity! Just because you're pregnant doesn't mean you can do anything you want!"Now, people were giving me weirder looks. Someone even suggested calling the cops. I froze.William was a careful man. The moment I showed my ID, he thought one step ahead and shut down any chance of me convincing anyone I was his real wife. Now, I couldn't even use my marriage certificate because he said it was fake.I wish it were.Melanie heaved a sigh of relief and rested on William's chest. "If your marriage isn't working out, I can suggest some divorce lawyers, but please don't try to steal my husband."Divorce. She made sure everyone heard that. She wanted me to get a divorce so she could marry William instead.William kissed her cheek like she was his most prized treasure. He saw me as nothing but trash."Now get out of here! I'm calling the cops next time!" He approached the reception. "Hi, can you get the guards here? We'll need to get rid of this crazy woman. God knows
