Sophia's POV

Isabella's eyes lit up again. "What is it?"

I glanced around the apartment, suddenly paranoid that someone might be listening. Then I leaned forward and whispered my plan directly into Isabella's ear, speaking so quietly that even she had to strain to hear me.

As I explained my idea, I watched Isabella's expression change from confusion to understanding to pure, greedy delight. By the time I finished, she was practically vibrating with excitement.

"Sophia," she breathed, "you're brilliant. Absolutely brilliant."

"It could work," I said, sitting back with a satisfied smile. "Marcus prepared everything we need months ago. He just never expected we have to use it this way."

"When do we do it?" Isabella asked.

I checked my watch. It was barely noon, but there was no point in waiting. "Right away," I said. "The longer we wait, the more chances there are for something to go wrong. Let's go see Elena now."

Isabella was already grabbing her purse and keys. "This is going

Elena's POV "...we wait until the apartment is empty and we're in and out as fast as possible." Sophia's voice came through my laptop speakers clearly. I sat in my home office, Robert beside me, both of us listening to the conversation happening in that rundown apartment on Fifth and Morrison. "Of course. I'm not trying to hurt anyone. I just want to take back what Elena stole from me," Marcus replied through the microphone hidden in Isabella's jacket. Robert looked at me with concern. "Ms. Thompson, they're planning to break into your home. We need to call the police right now." "Not yet," I said, rewinding the audio to listen again. "I want them caught in the act. Not planning it. Actually doing it." "That's dangerous," Robert protested. "What if something goes wrong? What if they get inside before the police arrive?" "They won't," I said confidently. "Because I'm going to make sure everything goes exactly according to my plan." "Here's what we're going to do," I explained

Marcus's POVThe keypad beeped with another failed attempt. Red light. Again.I wiped sweat from my forehead despite the cold garage air. How many combinations had I tried now? Twenty? Thirty? Each failure made my desperation grow."Marcus, we need to leave," Sophia whispered urgently beside me."Just a few more," I muttered, entering another random sequence of numbers.Red light."Marcus!" Isabella hissed. "I hear something."I paused, listening. Voices. Footsteps. Someone was coming down the stairwell into the parking garage. My heart jumped into my throat. "Let's go."We moved quickly away from the elevator, trying not to run but not exactly walking either. The voices got louder behind us. Security guards maybe, or late night workers heading to their cars.We rounded a corner and I collided hard with someone. A homeless man stumbled backward, catching himself against the wall."Sorry, sorry," the man mumbled, reaching out to steady himself on Isabella's arm."Don't touch me," Isabe

Elena's POVMy phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling me from sleep. I reached for it groggily, squinting at the bright screen in the dark bedroom.Security Alert: Multiple failed access attempts at Parking Garage B elevator. Location: Phoenix Advisory headquarters.I sat up immediately as sleep vanished from my eyes. Julian stirred beside me but didn't wake. I slipped out of bed quietly and moved down to the living room before opening the security app on my phone. The alert showed fifteen failed pin attempts in the last twenty minutes. Someone was trying to get into my building. My phone rang. It was Robert, my head of security."Ms. Thompson, I'm sorry to wake you," Robert said when I answered. "We have a situation at the parking garage.""I just got the alert," I replied, already pulling up the live camera feeds. "What's happening?""Three individuals attempted to access the elevator from Parking Garage B. Multiple failed pin entries triggered our security protocols." Robert's voi

Marcus's POVI stared at Derek’s phone number on my cracked screen. The last time I called him for a job, it ended in failure. We barely escaped Phoenix Advisory without getting arrested. Derek made it clear he wanted nothing more to do with me.But I was out of options.I pressed call and held the phone to my ear. It rang four times before Derek answered."What do you want, Marcus?""I need your help with another job," I said quickly.Derek laughed. "Are you serious? The last job almost got us both arrested. Why would I help you again?""Because I'm willing to pay double this time," I lied. "Twenty thousand dollars."The line went quiet. I could hear Derek breathing as he considered the offer."You said ten thousand last time and barely paid half of that," Derek said finally."This time is different," I insisted. "I have the money ready. Cash. I just need to get into Phoenix Advisory one more time.""Phoenix Advisory?" Derek's voice filled with disbelief. "You want to break into the

  • Revenge is Best Served Cold   133: Plotting against the enemy

Sophia's POV Even though it has two bedrooms, the apartment Marcus, Isabella, and I shared was barely big enough for one person, let alone three. We were crammed together in a rundown place on the bad side of town, sharing one bathroom and a kitchen with appliances that barely worked. This wasn't how things were supposed to be. I was supposed to be living in luxury with Marcus. We were supposed to be on a beach somewhere, drinking expensive wine and forgetting about Elena and Victor and all the mess we left behind. Instead, I was broke, trapped, and watching Marcus fall apart. He sat on the couch staring at his cracked phone screen. He hadn't moved in over an hour. Just sat there, silent and defeated. Isabella paced back and forth across the small living room. "We need to do something," she said for the tenth time. "We can't just sit here and wait for everything to get worse." "What do you suggest?" I asked tiredly. "I don't know." Isabella stopped pacing. "But Carmen cut us o

Marcus' POV Carmen would come around. She always did. I stared at my phone, waiting for her to call back. She just needed time to cool down. Time to realize that cutting me off was a mistake. Time to remember that we were in this together. I dialed her number again. It rang twice before going to voicemail. "Carmen, it's me. Please call me back. We need to talk about this." I kept my voice calm and reasonable. "I know you're upset, but we can work through this. Just give me a chance to explain." I hung up and waited. Five minutes passed. Then ten. My phone stayed silent. Fine. She was making me work for it. That was okay. I knew how to handle Carmen. A few more calls, a few emotional appeals, and she would crack. She always did. I called again. This time, the phone went straight to voicemail. My stomach tightened slightly. "Carmen, I understand you need space. But please, just listen to me for one minute. I love you. Everything I've done has been for us. For our future together
