Elena's POV

I smoothed down my navy blue dress and checked my reflection in the bathroom mirror one more time. The interview with Business Weekly was in five minutes, and I needed to look perfect.

Elena Thompson, successful entrepreneur. Not Elena Martinez, victim of betrayal.

"Ms. Thompson?" Sarah knocked on the door. "The journalist is here."

"Thank you, Sarah. I'll be right there."

I walked to the conference room where a woman in her thirties was setting up a recording device on the table. She had short red hair and intelligent eyes that missed nothing.

"Ms. Thompson, I'm Jennifer Walsh from Business Weekly," she said, standing up to shake my hand. "Thank you for agreeing to this interview."

"Please, call me Elena," I said with a smile. "And thank you for featuring Phoenix Advisory."

"Entrepreneur of the Month is quite an honor," Jennifer said as we sat down. "Especially for someone who's only been in business for a year."

"It's been an incredible journey," I replied.

Julian Gray's POV I stood outside Elena's office building, holding a small bag from her favorite coffee shop. The same coffee shop where we used to study together in college. Elena probably didn't remember that I knew her order by heart, but I had never forgotten.Large vanilla latte with an extra shot of espresso. No sugar. I also got a blueberry muffin in case she was hungry.Today, I got both items."Good morning, Mr. Gray," said the security guard at the front desk. "Back to see Ms. Thompson?""Is it that obvious?" I asked with a smile."You've been here four times this week," the guard replied. "I'm starting to think you're stalking her.""Not stalking," I said. "Persistently pursuing."The guard laughed. "Good luck. She doesn't seem like the type who gives up easily.""Neither am I," I said. The elevator ride to the twentieth floor felt familiar now. I had made this trip so many times in the past month that I could do it with my eyes closed.Sarah looked up when I walked into t

  • Revenge is Best Served Cold   057: Another chance to love... Maybe

Elena's POV After Jennifer left, I spent another hour in the office, reviewing client files and preparing for tomorrow's meetings. Sarah had already gone home, and the building was quiet. At seven o'clock, I decided to call it a day. I gathered my purse and jacket and headed for the parking garage. The elevator ride down felt longer than usual. I was tired from the interview, mainly from maintaining Elena Thompson's perfect image for an hour.Sometimes I missed being able to tell the truth, The whole truth exactly as it happened to me. To talk about Marcus and Isabella and Sophia, about Victor and the revenge I executed that destroyed my enemies before building my empire. But Elena Thompson couldn't tell those stories. She could only tell the sanitized version that made her look like a victim who became a hero because the world was not a fair place and people would definitely have their own opinion of things even though they knew Marcus and Sophia and Isabella were wrong. The elevato

  • Revenge is Best Served Cold   055: Desperation Breeds Stupidity

Marcus' POV I sat on the thin mattress in the corner of the abandoned warehouse, counting the money I had stolen today. Two hundred and fifteen dollars. Enough to meet Victor's quota with fifteen dollars left over for food.My hands were still shaking from seeing Elena's face on that billboard. Three hours later, and I still couldn't believe what I had witnessed."How much did you make?" Isabella asked from her mattress across the room."Two fifteen," I replied. "You?""One ninety," Isabella said. "Ten dollars short."My sister looked terrible. Her face was sad from hunger, and her clothes hung loose on her shrinking frame. The bullet wound in her leg had healed badly, leaving her with a permanent limp."Sophia?" I called out."Two hundred exactly," Sophia replied from where she was lying on her mattress. The scar on her face had turned into a thick red line that would never fade. "Barely made it."The three of us were sharing this space with about fifteen other people who owed Victo

Marcus' POV My stomach cramped with hunger as I watched the businessman walk past me on the crowded sidewalk. His expensive suit, gold watch, and leather briefcase told me everything I needed to know.He had money which I needed so badly. The math was simple.I followed him for like half a block, staying close enough to reach his pocket but far enough away that he wouldn't notice me. My hands shook from hunger and tiredness, but I forced them to be steady.Victor expected two hundred dollars by six o'clock. I had forty-three dollars from the wallet I stole this morning. That left me a hundred and fifty-seven dollars short. And Victor didn't accept excuses anymore. The businessman stopped at a hot dog cart to buy lunch. It was perfect. While he was distracted, counting out change, I moved in behind him.My fingers slipped into his jacket pocket like as if I did this my whole life. Three months of stealing had made me good at it. Good enough to survive.I felt his wallet and carefully

  • Revenge is Best Served Cold   053: Unwanted Reunion

Julian Gray's POV I sat in my red Tesla outside the office building, staring up at the twentieth floor where Elena's new business was located. My hands gripped the steering wheel so tightly I thought I was going to ruin the leather. After one year of searching, I had finally found her.Elena Martinez. The woman I had loved since freshman year of college. The woman who chose Marcus Martinez over me and then disappeared from the world."Just go up there," I said to myself. "The worst she can do is say no."But Elena had already said no once. Five years ago, when I had finally worked up the courage to tell her how I felt. She had been so kind about it, so gentle in her rejection. But it still felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest."Julian, you're my best friend," she said that night in the college library. "I love you, but not in the way you want me to.""But Marcus doesn't treat you right," I had argued. "He's using you, Elena. Can't you see that?""Marcus loves me," she
