ALPHA KAEL

The room fell quiet, almost quiet that I could hear my heartbeat. One second, she was standing… the next, her body gave way. I saw her eyes flutter and her knees bend, causing my heart to skip a beat.

“Arin!” I shouted.

I moved faster than I ever had before, catching her before her head hit the ground, her body limping in my arms.

Her skin was ice cold, her shirt was wet and clung to her like she had fallen in water. Her breathing was shallow, and her face—Gods—her face was pale, her lips trembling, and her cheeks were red like she'd been slapped a million times.

What the hell happened?

I held her tighter. “Arin,” I called again, shaking her gently. “Wake up.”

She didn’t move, her head rested against my chest like a child who had lost all strength. A low growl escaped my throat. My wolf was restless, pacing, howling inside me. 'Mate,' he said again. His words rang in my head like a bell.

I lifted her into my arms, her body felt so light, like she hasn't eaten in a month.

ALPHA KAEL I stood there, my eyes following the guards as they carried Ashley away to the healer’s quarters. She was unconscious at that time. The pain she went through just moments ago… I could still hear her screams in my head. My wolf was restless and agitated. It wanted to go after her, to make sure she was okay. But I had to stay behind, there was still chaos in the ritual room.“All maids, you’re dismissed,” Elder Gwen ordered. The maids bowed quickly and scurried out, whispering amongst themselves. I heard Ashley's name more than once.“Why her?” Lorna’s voice rang sharply behind me, and I turned to her. Her face was red, and her hands were clenched tightly. She stepped toward Nemuel. “Why did the Moon Goddess choose a slave? Of all people, why not me?”Nemuel didn’t flinch. She looked at Lorna with an unreadable expression, then said calmly, “Because the Moon Goddess doesn’t choose based on rank or blood, she chooses based on purpose.”“That’s not an answer!” Lorna snapped.

ASHLEYAfter weeks in the dungeon, Madam Hilda was finally released. I hadn’t gone to see her, but word got around. She had changed from being the lousy woman to a more quieter, and calm woman. Some said she didn’t even argue anymore. I guess when you've tasted that kind of darkness, you don’t come out the same. The sun was beginning to set, painting the sky orange and gold, when a sudden announcement shook the whole packhouse."Tonight, the Lycan King will choose his mate."My breath caught in my throat. I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me who he was choosing. Lady Lorna, of course it was her. She had beauty, grace, noble blood, and every other thing a Luna should have.So why did I feel like the air had just left my lungs? Why was my chest tightening like this? Why couldn’t I sit still? This wasn’t supposed to bother me, this wasn't supposed to affect my happiness. After all, I was just a maid. But then... it weighed me down to the bone. I walked quickly to doctor Alex’s office,

ASHLEYI tiptoed into the palace just before the sun began to rise. The air was still and quiet, but every sound felt loud to me; the soft creak of the floorboard, the distant howl of wind, even the flutter of my own heart. I held the edge of my cloak tighter, praying no one would see me.I slipped past the guards easily. They were always drowsy around this time. My fingers trembled as I reached for the door to my room. Tina would probably be waking soon, and I didn’t want to startle her. I opened the door quietly and…“Ashley.”I froze. The deep voice came from behind me. My heart sank. Slowly, I turned around and saw him—Alpha Kael. He stood in the hallway, dressed in dark clothes, his arms folded, eyes burning into me like fire.“Your... Your majesty?” I stuttered. "You shouldn't be out here at such an hour."“I should be telling you the same thing.” He said a bit rudely. “Where were you last night?”“I—” I hesitated. “Are you stalking me now?”“It doesn’t matter if I was or not,”

ASHLEY The sun was warm as Tina and I walked down the narrow path leading to the pack market. Birds chirped in the trees, and the scent of fresh fruits and spices drifted in the air. We didn’t really have anything important to do today, so we thought, why not visit the market? As we walked, Tina started talking about Lady Lorna again, how her relationship with the Lycan King was falling apart."I heard they haven’t even spoken properly in days," Tina said, shaking her head. "What do you think is happening?"I gave a soft shrug. "I don’t know. Maybe they’re just... growing apart."I was being careful not to say anything too revealing. I couldn’t tell her the truth, that the Lycan King’s growing distance from Lorna might have something to do with... me. I didn’t ask for any of it, and I certainly didn’t want to be the reason anyone got hurt. So I kept my thoughts locked away and quickly changed the topic to something lighter.“Have you noticed how the market smells extra fresh today?

OLIVIAThe moment I heard their car drive into the compound, I walked towards the window to see for myself. Kael stepped out of the car, his clothes were torn slightly at the sleeve, stained with dry blood. His eyes looked tired, like he had fought his entire enemies in just one night.I quickly left my room, running to meet him. By the time I made it down the stairs, he was already in the building with Lorna. "Escort the Lady to her chamber," He ordered the maids. "Kael," She called, refusing to leave his side."I'll join you soon," He assured her, and she let the maids escort her to her room.I wrapped my arms around his waist. He didn’t pull back, he never did when I hugged him like this.“I told you to come home safe for me,” I whispered, holding onto him tighter. He pulled back a little, his hand gently resting on my head like he used to do when we were younger. “I’m alive, aren’t I?” he said with a half-smile.I looked up into his eyes.I didn’t say anything out loud, but I ope

ALPHA KAELThe ride back from the Crimson Moon Pack was quiet. Lorna sat beside me with her arms folded, her head turned toward the window. I could feel her thoughts and her heart beating so fast. "Do you think they'll survive?" She asked, not sparing me a glance. "It's just a happy home, do you think they'll all escape the rogues?""I don't know," That was the only answer I had."They're here," My wolf growled inside of me. "Get ready, the rogues have surrounded us."Soon, we began to hear strange sounds. "Stop the car!" I barked. The driver matched the break paddle, causing the car to stop.Lorna looked at me. "What's going on?" She asked, her eyes widened with fear."Stay here, and don't make a move. Neither of you." I warned."Kael, what's going on?!" She yelled. "Lorna, now isn't the time for questions." I told her. At this point, she knew better than to argue. "After I am done with those bastards, I'll answer your questions."I stepped out of the car, my wolf was already stir
