VIOLET

“Fuck my life.”

I cursed underneath my breath, scrambling to my feet. If it was truly rogues, then staying there would spell my doom. I didn’t waste any time and began running in the opposite direction from the howls.

The cold wind whipped past my face but I didn’t care all too much. All that mattered to me was escaping from them with my life. That was all that was important to me. That was all I cared about. That was all I wanted.

My legs ached with each step I took but I knew I couldn’t dare slow down my pace. Any false step would mean my death. I’d suffered and endured so much these past few days. I couldn’t let it all end here. My fingers were clinging hard onto my bag as I sought to quicken my pace.

My heart began thumping faster as the howls began getting closer. They’d taken notice of me. It would be better if I could transform now and run but it would only slow me down and give them an advantage over me.

I could hear the sound of their growls getting closer and closer. The thud of their feet hitting the ground filled my ears. They were right behind me and I could feel the bloodlust emanating from there. They were definitely after my blood.

I increased my speed and began running faster, picking up the pace as best as I could. I was so engulfed in getting away from them, I didn’t bother taking note of where I was running to. All I could think of was getting away from them.

After some time of running, I noticed I couldn’t hear the sound of their growls. There were no thuds coming from behind me. I slowed down to a stop and looked behind me. They were gone.

“Fucking idiots.” I clicked my tongue, trying to catch my breath.

My chest hurt so bad from running so fast. On the bright side, at least I had managed to escape them. I still didn’t understand why they’d stopped chasing me all of a sudden. Rogues were known to chase down their prey to the ends of the earth.

I pushed away the weird feeling gnawing at my chest and tightened my grip on the bag. I had no idea where I was at all. Just as I was about to bring out the map and try to decipher my whereabouts, my whole body froze.

It was pure primal instinct for an animal to know when it was being watched. I could feel it deep in my bones and didn’t even need anyone to spell it out for me. I wasn’t alone. A low guttural sound made me snap my head to a nearby bush. More growls sounded from all around me.

A small gasp escaped my lips as I watched a number of wolves walk out from different directions. Soon enough, I was surrounded by all of them. I tried to step back but there was one behind me.

I was really in for it now.

The biggest of them, a big black wolf walked up to her and stopped just a little away from her. She felt the urge to flinch back in fear but held her ground. She hadn’t done anything wrong. If it came to it, she would not be going down without a fight.

“Who are you? What do you want from me?” She yelled out to them.

The black wolf growled in response, its eyes glaring at her intently. For a second, she was sure it would definitely attack. What she didn’t expect was for it to slowly shift back into human form. The tall man walked closer to her, eyeing her up and down with a look of suspicion in his eyes.

“I think we’re the ones who should be asking you that.”

The other wolves shifted into a group of men, all of them watching her intently. She had to resist the urge to squirm under their intense gaze. The man in front of her was probably contemplating if he should just kill her off. Her heart sped up at that thought.

“Check her bag.” He said to one of the other men.

The blonde hair man grabbed her bag forcefully and emptied out its contents on the floor. They probably had no interest in what they saw and turned back to her, annoyance reading all over their facial expressions.

“Who do you work for? What allegiance do you serve?” He threw a barrel of questions at her, not giving her the chance to muster a single answer.

“I-

“You’ll be coming with us.”

Without giving me a chance to defend myself, the others grabbed me and began dragging me with them.

“Hey. Wait one second. This isn’t what you think. Who are you? And where the hell am I?”

They didn’t bother answering any of my questions and just dragged me along with them. My heart beat sped up as various scenarios ran through my head. Where were they taking me to? Who were they? I’d heard of people getting kidnapped this way. Was the same thing happening to me? Would I be whisked off to heaven knows where? My body parts sold off?

I tried fighting out of their grip once again and the black hair man turned to glare at me.

“Do that again, and I’ll cut your legs off.” He threatened.

His threat was crystal clear. Obey or suffer the consequences. Shit. Everything was happening so quick, I barely even had any chance to react. I couldn’t ask anything else. Who knew what they would do if provoked to anger.

Right. The best thing to do would be to just cooperate with them and give them what they wanted. Maybe they’d let me go if I did that. It was naïve to think that way but I didn’t have much of a choice. I remained quiet and let them place a bag over my head.

I didn’t expect the painful blow to my head before everything went black.

LUCIAN“Fucking bastard.”That was the seventh tabloid I was coming across in the span of ten minutes. Since the events at the summit, Tristan had gone straight to work at making sure all the blogs carried talk of what had happened.DarkMoon Alpha’s violent reaction stuns guest at Summit. Are Lucian’s abusive tendencies finally coming to light? What goes on in the mind of a narcissist?I tossed the tablet aside and sank back into my seat, trying to hold back the anger threatening to spill out of me. Zayn was all but quiet as he watched me. He must be pissed by the tabloids as well but he was doing a better job at holding back his anger.“The PR team’s already working on it, but not like that’s going to do much good,” Zayn let out a sigh. “He’s done a pretty good job of making sure this spreads like wild fire.”“And the media’s eating it up too.” I growled.Zayn clicked his tongue. “The main issue is with the Alliance. We need to make sure this doesn’t shake their standing in any way.”

VIOLETI should have known would be up to utterly no good as soon as she’d gotten that mischievous look on her face. Really the whole car drive had been a huge sign.I’d just been too in my feelings to notice it.“Well?” Reese asked eagerly, her voice slicing through the silence like a knifeLucian cleared his throat, then downed his glass of wine. Seeing as she wasn’t going to get an answer out of her brother, she pouted, then turned to me.“Yes, my brother’s a complete dickhead,” she sighed, “But I know for a fact pregnancy would look so good on you, Vee.”Lucian sputtered, wine spilling out of his mouth while he went into a coughing fit. Zayn all but laughed at the Alpha, and honestly, I couldn’t blame him for not being able to hold back. It wasn’t every day you got to see Lucian Sinclair so flustered.“Do you mind dropping this?”“No,” Reese popped, eyes focused on me. “I’m focusing the question on, Violet. She’s the one that’ll make the call.”Lucian frowned. “What? You’re trying

VIOLET“How long is it going to take you two?”Reese huffed as we hurried down the stairs. Well, I hurried. Lucian was taking his sweet time coming down.“Sorry, sorry.” I winced. She huffed, glaring at Zayn when he tried soothing her. “Why are we always late to things?”“It’s part of our flair,” Zayn grinned. “You can’t fake pizazz, you know. Plus, it makes us more original.”“Oh, lord.” Reese groaned. The look on her face screamed ‘put me out of my misery’. It was almost like the pregnancy hormones were already kicking in. Or maybe just their usual banter.“Well, let’s get going then.” Lucian adjusted his collar. We took the black mustang, with Zayn at the driver’s and Reese at the passenger’s. I and Lucian took the back seat.“Ooh, this is my jam.” Reese hummed, turning up the volume.I giggled, following her to bop and sway to the pop beat, much to Lucian’s chagrin. He looked like he was just about ready for the car seat to swallow him.“Admit it,” I elbowed his side. “You love th

LUCIAN“A baby?”The words had echoed in my mind far longer than it should have. It wasn’t like I was particularly opposed to that. But I wasn’t expecting it to happen so soon. The look on Zayn’s face was nothing short of pride as he glanced at Reese. My sister had something similar on her face as well, albeit along the lines of peace. This was something she’d really wanted for a while. And yeah, there’d been some hiccups at the time, with Zayn not wanting a child. But it was nice to know they’d manage to work their way around it.Violet was the first to move. She got out of her seat and immediately went to hug Reese.“You’re going to be an amazing mother.”My sister’s eyes glistened, before she tightened her arms around Violet. “Thank you.”I took that as my cue to move as well, clasping Zayn’s hand before giving him a hard pat. “So you finally came around, huh?”“What can I do?” he grinned. “Gotta give the lady what she wants.”“And you’re completely ready for this.” My voice had dr

VIOLET“Get out of my way.”You’d think he’d actually listen to me on that one. He hadn’t come to Reese’s room to demand I come with him as I thought he might. Not like I was looking forward to that anyway. He’d made his choice on how he wanted to act, and I’d made mine.“I have things to do.”As soon as I moved, he sidestepped as well. It was annoying enough that his huge frame blocked my path, but that look on his face, made me want to just give in without a second thought.“Please?”I frowned. “I said I don’t have—”He dropped to his knees before I could get another word in. My mouth remained wide open with shock. I must have looked dumb staring at him that way.But I was too shocked, and at a loss for words. Never in my life did I believe Lucian Sinclair would ever kneel to anyone. And yet—“Violet, please.” His eyes never wavered even once. “Hear me out.”Every bit of fight left my bones. My shoulders sagged a little. “Fine.”His eyes seemed to glisten at that. Slowly, he got bac

VIOLET“Men are the complete worst.”Reese hummed out a reply. “Totally agree.”After Lucian’s fiasco the day before, I’d gone straight to Reese to vent about what happened. Of course, I couldn’t tell him it was about Tristan though. It would draw too much suspicion.Reese had been a good listener. In some way, she always was. And she’d offered me all the comfort I needed. Including a way to get the pills I needed to take.I didn’t think I could feel worse than I did yesterday. But somehow the feeling still lingered this morning. With a sigh, I forced myself out of bed and reached for my phone. Lucian’s text was still on delivered. He didn’t deserve a reply. Or maybe I didn’t even know what I would say to him. A flurry of emotions ran through my mind, faster than I was sure I could keep track of. I didn’t even want to look at his face. Yet stupidly, my wolf was still yearning for him. To be the close to him at the very least.“Are you gonna keep stalling?”I turned to f
