Chapter Eight

I stared back at her, unsure of how to respond to what she just said. Is this a trap of some sort? She probably made an arrangement with some of the criminals loitering these walls to lure me out and then do away with me.

I should say no and try to escape by myself but that could weeks, a month at best. I would need to gain Matt’s trust and all; he is not a kind of man to trust easily.

“Why do you want to help?” I eyed her suspiciously.

She stared at me, “What makes you think, I am doing this to help you?”

Is she admitting to wanting to harm me? I pushed the thought away. “I don’t even want your help!” I retorted.

She scoffed, “So what? You don’t want to leave now? You want to live the good life?” Her eyes burnt brightly with indignation.

I shake my head, “I still want to leave, now more than ever. But,” I pause, folding my arm over my small breasts.

“But what?” she asked impatiently. “You want money? I can give you that. I just need you out of our lives.”
