Chapter Six

His blue eyes gleamed with amusement when he caught me staring. I look away, my face flushed from embarrassment.

Rosa stares at us with disapproval, “She is still a child Matt!”

Matt looks away from me and straightened. “Cecil would be staying the night, have someone prepare a room for her. He returned his gaze to me and I look away.

When he left I put, the last piece of the pie into my mouth and stood to my feet.

“You should retire to your room and get some rest. You have had a long day, I assume?” Rosa sounded all professional, which was funny coming from an old lady like herself.

“Well,” I stretched out my hands, slightly bending over backwards. A yawn escaped my lips as I straightened. It was almost as if I was waiting for someone to remind me to be tired.

“Are you sure?” I asked weakly, “I could help with the dishes if you want.” Madam Maggie would have probably brought hell to me in bed, should I be sleeping during the day.

“It is alright. Linda would handle it.”

I struggled to hide the smile tugging at my lips, this place was the dream. Imagine other people doing the work while I idle about sleeping and eating. This right here is the American dream.

“Can you show me to my room?” I turned to Rosa.

She nodded and led the way out of the kitchen. Except for Matt and the fact that he was a werewolf, I would have loved to stay here forever, living the good life far away from Madam Maggie’s fowl men riddled brothel. Eva would flip once I tell her about this place.

Shit! Eva!

I haven’t spoken to her since I left the brothel, she would be worried sick about me by now. I had completely forgotten about my harebrained best friend. I met her at the orphanage and we have been close ever since.

Eva unlike me never got adopted and would be leaving the orphanage on her eighteenth birthday, which by the way, was in two months. She had been so worried about leaving the system, mostly because she did not have anywhere to stay but now, I look around, smiling deviously to myself; this might just be the answer to our prayers.

I would call her but I do not have her number, I have never had a mobile phone until now. According to Madam Maggie, “Technology would fry your brain.”

She started saying that after seeing a sci-fi movie where tracking device were planted into the necks of agents and their master used his phone to explode the device whilst still in the agent’s neck. All my attempts at convincing her that it was just a movie were ignored.

Madam Maggie was both old school and stubborn, especially stubborn. But she did a good job raising me and acting like the mother I needed. But I guess everybody has a price and hers was hundred million dollars.

“This is you,” Rosa announced pushing the bedroom door open. She smiled as she saw my face light up in awe and glee.

The room was spacious and the bed was large enough to accommodate three people, my former looked like a prison cell compared to this. I had my own personal bathroom with a hot tub, right inside my room.

“Wow!” I shrieked as I pulled open the walk in closet. “My clothes aren’t even big enough to take up this much space.”

“You don’t have to publicly display your lack of class,” Cecil snickered behind me. I shut the closet door and turn to face her.

“Hello to you too Cecil,” I roll my eyes. I look around and realized that Rosa was gone. This pale witch probably told her to leave.

I hop into the bouncy bed and grabbed a pillow to plop my elbow up. Cecil stared at me spitefully, and then sighed.

“What do you want?” I ask, biting my nails, a poor habit that I am still struggling to give up.

Cecil wraps her arm over her chest and strolls calmly to the window. She pushed the window open, staring outside, like she was just seeing the view for the first time.

“Since you would be staying here,” she paused, “for a while,” she paused again, this time turning around to face me. “I am going to lay some ground rules, which you must follow, that is if you want to live peacefully with me in this house.”

“I don’t think you have to worry about living peacefully me,” I pause, making sure to look her dead in the eyes, “you don’t even live her.” I smiled smugly.

She cheeks turned a bright shade of red, “I soon will, when I and Matt finally get married,” she raised her voice.

“So why don’t we wait for when that happens, before you start with the ground rules. What do you think?” I arch her eyebrow at her, daring her to do her absolute worse.

I was beginning to enjoy bickering with her, until her eyes turn a bright shade of gold and long, pointy claws crept out of her nails. I tumble out of bed in terror, and crawled backwards until my back hit the wall.

Of course she was a werewolf too.

I felt my knees tremble as she inched closer to me in slow calculated steps.

“Listen girlie, I don’t know who you think you are dealing with, she stops in front of me and squats, bring our eyes to the same level. “But I will rip you apart limb from limb, if you cross me.”

She stretched out her index finger and rolls my messy hair around it. “I don’t know why Matt brought you here, but until figure it out, I will need you to stay real far away from fiancé, do you understand me?” she forced a wide, malicious smile.

“I don’t care about you or your fiancé, I would gladly leave right now,” I managed to say, it came out weaker than I had hoped.

“Don’t worry, you will be leaving here sooner than you think. I can’t live with a slum rat in my house.” She lets go of my hair and stood to her feet, straightening her creased dress.

She started towards the door, but paused with her hand on the door knob, “Do not join us for dinner, I want to have some alone time with my fiancé,” she smiled dryly.

I let out a gust of air, I did not realize that I was holding in, as soon as she closed the door behind her.

I sat there for a while, staring at the door hopelessly. I was in a much worse predicament than I thought. Now more than ever I was certain that this house was crawling with werewolves.

I remember Eva used to say something about wolves being in packs, with alphas and stuff. What if Matt was the alpha, a rich, sexy alpha with a vicious mate?

I should have learnt about the wolves when I had the chance, but then I never imagined I would be in this situation.

I never envisioned myself strolling through a fancy, big mansion, with a sexy billionaire and his pack.

“Breathe, Ashley. Breathe,” I muttered to myself, as I was already starting to hyperventilate, I could not afford to have another panic attack.

I need to talk to Matt, if he wouldn’t let me go, he could at least allow me to see my friend. I need to talk to Eva before I lose my mind. Nothing makes sense to me right now and Eva might just be able to help me make sense of this.

I slam the door as I hurry out of my room. I paused when I got to the stairs, there were way too many room in this darn house and I couldn’t remember where his study was. But it certainly was on this floor. I can remember that much.

Fortunately an armed pale, blonde man with full beards saw me and climbed the stairs to meet me.

“Are you the new girl?” his voice was deep and harsh.

I nodded, “My name is Ashley.”

He looked me over, his eyes held suspicion and a little bit of pity.

“I am looking for Matt’s study, if you could point me towards it, that would mean a lot,” I say, trying to suppress my growing discomfort.

He gestured to the left, with his free hand, “at the end of the hall.”

I walked swiftly towards the direction.

I tapped the door, without waiting for a reply, I stepped in and slammed the door shut behind me.

“Matt we need to talk!”

I look and found matt and a weirdly familiar man staring at me in surprise. I ignored their stares and looked at the man standing beside Matt. His sickly thin body and the ugly scar running across his face took a while to click.

I gasp.
