Chapter 40

Debbie and Rick were frustrated and exhausted. This trip to Jelang had proved to be a very unpleasant experience for them both. Lois was being intolerable and Debbie's aunts and uncles where no better, with the sole exception of Aunt Alice. The whole family were constantly trying to belittle or insult each other at every turn. How could such a family exist? Rick could not wait to leave and never look back. Even though he had paid several hundred thousand dollars to treat her mother, Lois still berated Rick as a good for nothing in front of her siblings. Finally Rick and Debbie both had had enough!

That morning after breakfast at her Aunt Alice's house, Debbie looked at her mother and said "Mom, Rick and I are leaving today. There is no reason for us to stay any longer. Since you have said that Rick is useless and a good for nothing, I'm sure that you will be glad that we will be gone. I'll say my goodbyes to the family at lunch over at grandma's later, then we will leave from there
