POV: AVA

The first thing I noticed was that Darius took me to his bedroom instead of the medical tent. I adjusted the pillows, trying to understand why he did that.

“What are you doing?” I asked. “Why did you bring me here instead of taking me to the healers?”

“That's because I'm treating you myself.”

Has he been treating other soldiers like this too? Or was he just giving me preferential treatment, because this is the second time he has done this?

He came back with a small medical kit and pulled a chair beside him. I was about to ask a question when he began to remove the damaged pieces of my clothes. He was careful not to touch the fabric against the wound.

“You know there are people trained to do this, right?”

“I know.”

He dipped a cloth into a bowl and began to clean the blood from my arm. He was too careful for someone who could be so rough whenever his temper got the better of him.

I watched him prepare to stitch me up. “Where did you learn how to do that?”

“My dad taught me some of it. I learned the rest after he died.”

His answer made me quiet.

Darius threaded the needle without looking up. “After my father was murdered, I stopped trusting people with things that could decide whether someone lived or died. “

He pushed the needle through my skin.

I took in a deep breath as his hands immediately slowed down when he saw the pain was starting to affect me. There was nothing careless in the way he handled my arm. He cleaned each stitch before moving to the next, his fingers were steady even though he looked tired too.

“You're surprisingly gentle,” I murmured.

His eyes lifted to mine briefly. “You expected me to be rough?”

“With you, I never know what to expect.”

His expression changed for a moment before he returned his attention to the wound.

“Don't do what you did tonight again.”

Does he mean the fact that I fought alongside him? What was I supposed to do? I couldn't just watch him fight alone. Besides, Mira was fighting at the other end of the fortress.

“You mean….fighting?”

“Throwing yourself into a battle when you have no reason to be there.” He put the medical supplies aside and looked directly at me. “You're not a soldier, Ava. You had no business putting yourself in danger.”

“What was I supposed to do? Stand there and watch them kill you? I can't do that. I had to make myself useful.”

“This is exactly what worries me.”

Since when did he become worried because I’m fighting? Wasn't he the one who told me I have to fight for my life?

His voice had lost its usual edge. Darius reached for the edge of the blanket and pulled it over my legs before continuing.

“I…I can't bear losing you.” He swallowed, his eyes dropping to my bandaged arm. “I already know what it is to lose my father. I'm not trying to lose anyone under my care.”

I didn't know why I started smiling.

Darius noticed. “Why are you smiling?”

Why wouldn't I smile, who would have thought the most feared rogue king would be this soft.

“Who would have thought the great Rogue would be this nice to a stranger?”

He smiled back at me too. “Looks like I'm getting fond of this stranger.”

That caught me off guard.

He looked down at the bandage he had just tied before adding. “Maybe that's why you're seeing this side of me. It's off limits to people I'm not fond of.”

I couldn't think of anything else to say, so I let the silence settle between us.

My hand moved before I had duy decided to reach for him. I touched his face gently, tracing the edge of the scar near his cheek. Darius didn't pull away.

There was something deeply guarded about him. I wondered if he had ever been with a woman before.

Darius came closer to me.

Our faces were inches apart when the sudden thought of Kael came to mind.

It felt like I was betraying Kael, our mate bond. Even though there wasn't really any need for me to feel guilty.

The broken bond was still there, even if everything between us had fallen apart. Part of me still wondered whether what we had could somehow be repaired.

Darius on the other hand treated me with extreme care, and I liked being close to him.

That was when I finally made my move and kissed him.

The kiss was soft and brief, almost like we were being careful. Neither of us seemed to know what we were doing, and I nearly pulled away before Darius's hand came gently to my face.

He kissed me again, and this time he didn't hesitate.

When we finally separated, he rested his forehead against mine. His breath was warm against my lips, and his hand remained against my cheek.

“I will not let you go, Ava,” he whispered. “I will never let you go.”

I kissed him again, and this time neither of us pulled away.

The kiss deepened as he pulled me closer. Darius and I had sex.

POV: AVABy late evening, Hollow Fang had become a moving line of headlights, engines, and torches.Cars rolled out through the main gates first, followed by motorcycles carrying scouts and messengers. Warriors from Hollow Fang filled the vehicles behind them, while the allied packs formed their own groups instead of mixing completely. There was still too much uncertainty between them for anyone to pretend they were one army yet.Darius had chosen the longer road to Silvercrest rather than taking the eastern border route. The shortcut would have saved them several hours, but it also passed through territory Gareth had attacked before, and none of them could be certain what was waiting there.“If Gareth knows we’re coming, thaw eastern road is the obvious place to trap us,” Darius had told the commanders before they left. “We lose time taking the longer route. We could lose the entire army by taking the wrong shortcut.”No one had argued with him after that.I rode in the passenger sea

The noise inside the tent refused to settle.Several Alphas were speaking at once, trying to make sense of what I had just revealed. Some looked openly doubtful, while others kept asking the people beside them whether they had ever heard of a surviving member of the Lunar family.I get it. They had every reason to question me. I also spent months without knowing I truly was, and now I was standing in front of them claiming a throne that had been forgotten“Gareth took our kingdom. He took our home, our people, and everything that belonged to my family. Losing the throne did not make him the rightful owner of it. It only means that no one has taken it back yet.”I looked at each alpha, refusing to soften what I was asking of them.It made no sense that Gareth could just take whatever he wants, act however he liked and not face consequences. Speaking of consequences I wonder what my fake parents are doing right. Has Gareth thrown them into prison or were they working with Gareth to bri

AVAThe tent was crowded when Darius, Mira, and I arrived. The tent was full of alphas, outlaw pack leaders, and members of Hollowfang. Warriors stood around the entrance.Darius had been preparing for this gathering for days. After the last attacks, he came to the conclusion that Gareth was receiving help from some people outside Silvercrest. The number of soldiers that attacked Hollowfang made no sense. Too many soldiers had appeared at the right places, plus Gareth's attack had become far more coordinated than they had been before. His plan was simple. He wanted some of the outlaw packs working with Hollowfang before Gareth could launch another major attack. Darius knew he couldn't trust all of them, so he needed to gather all of them first before picking who he could trust. He didn't want me to come here, but I insisted on coming with him. Now, standing inside the tent, I wondered if I had made the right choice.Something about the atmosphere felt wrong.Nobody openly challenged

POV: AVA“How many weeks?” I finally managed to ask.The doctor checked the results again before answering. “About two weeks.”Two weeks. The number sat in my head, and then the memory came back with startling clarity. The night after the battle, when everything between Darius and me had shifted, was two weeks ago. I remembered waking beside him afterward, remembered the way he had looked at me and the promise he had made that he would never let me go.I looked down at my stomach again. The timing matched.“This is Darius’s child,” I whispered, more to myself than anyone else.Mira’s eyebrows rose, and he gave me a small, knowing look. “You’ve been here for over two weeks, Ava. Unless you’ve been hiding another man somewhere in the fortress, I’m guessing that’s the answer.” Despite everything, a laugh almost escaped me.“Yes,” I admitted. “It’s Darius’s.”The realization brought a rush of happiness I hadn’t expected. A child. Darius’s child. For someone who had spent so much time wor

  • Rise of the Chubby Lunar Queen    Chapter 19: Are you okay?

AVATwo weeks after Kael’s arrival, I woke up feeling sick. The nausea wasn’t severe enough to frighten me, but it was persistent, sitting unpleasantly in my throat whenever I moved. My limbs felt heavy too, and I had to sit on the edge of the bed for a few seconds before standing because my body didn’t seem interested in cooperating.I blamed the battle and everything that had happened since then. Recovering from my wound, dealing with Kael’s sudden appearance, and watching Darius prepare Hollow Fang for another attack had left little room for rest. I had been running on exhaustion for days, so feeling weak hardly seemed unusual. There was another reason I kept the sickness to myself. I knew exactly how Darius would react if I told him. After what happened during the battle, he was already protective enough. If I told him I was waking up nauseous and weak, he would probably drag a doctor into my room, order me to stay in bed, and find some reason to forbid me from doing anything witho

POV:AVA~~~~~~~Three days later~~~~~~~~~~A scout arrived breathless. He stopped in front of Darius and bowed his head quickly.“My king, someone is approaching the main gate.”Darius looked up from the table. “Who?”“We don't know yet, but he's alone and badly wounded. He appears to have come from Silvercrest.”Darius stood up and reached for his sword. I followed him as the scout hurried ahead, leading us through the corridor towards the main gate. When we got to the gate, several guards had already gathered along the walls. Their weapon were drawn, and everyone was watching the lone figure making his way through the snow.I recognized him before he came any closer.Kael.He shouldn't be here. What happened? And why was he badly injured? There were tons of questions going through my head.He could barely walk properly. His clothes were torn, his face was bruised, and blood was dripping around the side of his neck.Darius stopped beside the gate.“Ready your weapons,” he ordered his g
