FIFTY ONE
ELENA’s POV
I am dressed in scrubs and brought into the operation theatre. Hunter lays in the middle of the room, and I hear the horrific beeping of the heart rate monitor.
The beeping does not sound good.
My eyes dart back and forth between the doctor who led me in and another few surgeons who are frantically trying to save Hunter. An old woman whom I had not noticed before steps out from the shadows. Instantly I know she is no ordinary woman.
She is the pack’s witch doctor.
She takes one look at me and flashes me a toothy grin. “So this is the omega who has come to save her Alpha.”
I understand now. I understand why they need a female omega. They need someone without a social standing, someone whom the pack will not mourn if she were to bite the dust, someone who will not affect the power struggle in any pack. Someone like me.

ELENA’s POVI open my eyes to the soft rhythmic beeping of a heart monitor and am greeted by a magnificent dark blue skyline outside a rectangular window. ELENA’s POV The Sorceress tells me to leave with her but that both Ian and Helios are not to come. She orders them to stay in the cabin. Hearing this and realizing the gravity of the situation, Helios gives me an apologetic smile and for the first time, I see hesitance worming its way into his eyes. ELENA’s POV I sit on the ledge of the packhouse’s balcony, staring at the blueish hues of the morning skyline. A flock of birds fly across the sky, all ready for the dawn of a new day. I look at the bandages on my arms and thighs that cover my battle scars and exhale. Strange, but I do not how to feel right now. The Storm Riders pack stand victorious. We have won, there is nothing left to fear. I should be happy, exhilarated even, but I am not. It is odd but I feel like I have lost my direction in life.
