"Coming!" I yelled, suppressing a yawn as I walked towards the door. It was Monday morning and my shift doesn't start until 11. I thought of sleeping in but my plan was completed ruined by the person knocking on the door right now.
"I'm gonna kill Beth when she wakes up." I mumbled under my breath and opened the door to find Zach, standing in front of me with a bright smile on his face, looking crazy hot as usual.Shit, I looked like a mess!"Zach...Wh-- What are you doing here?" I started to blush, pushing my hair away from my face and tried to pull down my long oversized t-shirt. He paid me no mind and walked inside with a package in his hand."You were supposed to text me last night." He stated cooly, walking inside the kitchen."Shit, I completely spaced out. I'm so sorry." I pouted, still wondering what he doing down here."Umm...do you want me to wake up Beth? She is still asleep." I was about to walk towards her room."No, it's okay. I came to check on you and I also got you some breakfast. How are you feeling?" he asked, turning around to see me and a look of suprise flashed across my face. That was sweet?!"Wow, thank you so much. I mean..yeah, I feel much better now." I gave him a warm smile, folding my arms in front of me chest."You do look good." He added, running his eyes all over my body and I quickly looked down at my toes, tucking a piece of hair behind my ears shyly.Stop blushing, Idiot!"You didn't have to go through so much trouble though," I gestured towards the breakfast he had bought."Come on, you are like family. I would have done the same for my sister as well." He replied and urged me to sit down and eat.Did he see me as another sister?!"Umm...sure. Did you eat?" I asked as I pulled up a chair against the counter, trying not to think much about his little comment. I filled my plate with some pancakes and bacon while he poured me some coffee."I ate some before I came here and I kinda have to rush now." He looked at his watch and grabbed his keys from the counter."Come on, have a cup of coffee atleast.""Another time, Woods! Tell my sister I said hi and you're coming back for work today right?" he asked on his way out and I nodded in response with my mouth full of pancakes."Great. See you then." He left before waving me goodbye and I let out a huge sigh. I knew Beth and Zach consider me as their family but it felt weird to think of Zach looking at me as his little sister. I didn't want to be his sister for Christ sake. Not when I have inappropriate thoughts about him sometimes.I shook my head and tried to enjoy my breakfast which tasted absolutely delicious."I wish I had come to the pub last night. Mason keeps going on and on about how exciting it was," Beth complained beside me while I was preparing a drink for one of our customers. Mason was one of our regular supplier of beer and other imported liquor. I know he has a thing for Beth but she doesn't believe it even though I have told her a million times."Well, he is trying to get to you. Don't mind him unless you are interested of course," I added, giving her a sly smirk."Ugh, no way! He just loves to annoy me.""He also loves to do other things to you." I winked in a suggestive manner while she pretended to gag."Did you know Jayden lost some kind of kissing bet to a mystery girl last night? Everyone are talking about it today.""What?!" I almost choked on my own saliva, my face turning a deep shade of red."Yeah, he kissed the girl and she gave him a boner is less than thirty seconds itseems. Fucking Manwhore!" She muttered grumpily while I tried to act cool in front of her."Well, he must have looked stupid for losing the bet anyway." I shrugged cooly as if I had no idea what she was talking about but I was freaking out inside."Didn't you see it?""No, I th-think I was on my way back home during that time." I stuttered, not meeting her gaze and she nodded in response."Yeah, of course. God! I just want to punch his ridiculously perfect face the next time I see him.""Hi ladies, I hope you are not talking about me." We both went still at the sound of that deep rich masculine voice. I looked in front of us to find Jayden Brooks seated behind the bar counter in his smart casuals, looking sexy as hell.Fuck! He could wear a trash bag and still look smoking hot in it.I started to panic and tried to keep myself busy by arranging the glasses and drinks so that he wouldn't notice me.Get it together, Hazel! He doesn't know you."Speak of the devil," Beth mumbled under her breath and nudged me to join her."What the fuck are you doing here?" Beth yelled at him angrily while I pulled her back before she could create a scene."Wh-What can I get you, sir?" I asked him with an awkward smile."You should learn how to talk to your customers from your friend here, Beth." He tsked in response and grabbed the bar menu to order his drink."He is all yours, Hazel. I can't deal with his arrogance." She removed her apron and walked out of the counter, leaving me all alone with him. Unfortunately, I couldn't do the same since I don't own the place.Ugh! I was so mad at Beth for leaving me alone with him but she has no idea about last night so I couldn't blame her.The bar was almost empty as it was a Monday afternoon. I kept scanning the room and looking around patiently, waiting for his order as he was still staring at the menu. I took this time to observe him from the corner of my eye and the memories of last night came flashing to my mind, sending a shiver down my spine.I could still remember the way his tongue explored my mouth and the way his teeth grazed against my lower lip, teasing me and how our bodies were pressed together..."Excuse me?"Crap!I came out of my trance state and looked at him. My breath hitched as our eyes locked with each other but I tried to remain calm so that I wouldn't make a fool out of myself."Yes, sir. What can I get you?""Everything on the menu sounds boring. I want something new and a bit strong for my liking?" he asked, searching my face and I went totally blank."Umm...uhh..how about my signature blue cocktail?" I asked without thinking as it was the first thing that popped into my mind."Is it strong?""Too strong that they took it off the menu. I think you will like it."Well, if you insist." he breathed out, resting his elbow on the counter and leaned a bit forward, giving me a whiff of his expensive cologne and I almost forgot how to breath.I shook my head and started to work on his drink while he was busy doing something on his phone."I haven't seen you around. Are you new here?" he asked after a few seconds and I shook my head."I've been working here for three years."He just hummed in response and kept staring at me as if he was trying to figure me out. I continued to make his drink but his gaze was distracting as hell."Then, I'm sure you must have heard about the bet. Did you by any chance know the girl who kissed me last night?" he asked, making me halt my actions.Fuck! Why was he asking about that?"Uhh...I'm so sorry. I have no idea as I left early last night." I rushed out without meeting his gaze and I placed the drink in front of him."Also, please don't tell anyone I gave you this drink. It's off the menu and I'm actually not allowed to serve it." I explained just in case and he raised his eyebrow in a curious manner."Don't worry. Your secret is safe with me," he smirked, taking the drink from the counter while I turned around to hide my blush.I started clearing the space and arranging the new set of inventory items on the shelf so that I didn't have to engage in a conversation with him. He screamed trouble from every angle and I decided to stay far away from him. "It's Hazel, right?" I turned around when he mentioned my name and gave him a questioning look."Yeah?""This drink. Did you serve anyone last night?" he asked eagerly and I shook my head."Like I said, it's off the menu and I only prepare it for myself occassionally." I replied, adjusting my ponytail and meet his gaze. I noticed his lips curving into an sexy smirk and he leaned back, running his eyes all over my body."Intresting!""I still can't believe that she is married. Look at her! She is so happy." Zach exclaimed with a hint of surprise in his voice and I couldn't help but laugh at him in amusement. "I know. Marrying the love of your life does that to you." I replied, looking at them dancing in the middle of the room without any care in the world. Beth looked so beautiful and they looked perfect for each other that it almost made me want to cry. The wedding ceremony was over and most of the people had left except for a few close friends and family who were hanging around just like us."Are you going to eat that?" Zach asked, eyeing my cake and I pulled my plate closer to mine. "Yes, sir. Keep your hands to yourself." I laughed, shoving the cake into my mouth swiftly in a not so lady-like manner. "You are such a dork." "You love me anyway." I added with my mouth, still full of cake. He kept staring at me and I couldn't help but wonder if I had something on my face.I must look like a dork if I had cak
Six Months Later...."You have to make me stop eating, Hazel. That's your duty as my bridesmaid." Beth complained as she pushed her plate away and I tried to hold back my laughter. The wedding was on Sunday and I had been helping her all week despite my busy schedule working at the company and also attending my culinary classes in the middle of it. Taking over the company was extremely hard that I wanted to give up so many times but I got through the transition process with Zach's help as he had some knowledge in what my company does. It involved shipping and logistics related to heavy loads all over the world and the employees were so supportive and sweet towards me. They accepted me immediately and were patient with me until I understood the business. It's still a learning process no doubt. As for Lisa, she gave up and quit on her own without putting up much of a fight. She also moved out of the house two months ago which was quite surprising to me but at the same time it was under
"Are you "Are you ready for this? No going back now." Zach squeezed my hands as we were standing outside Tim's office. It was a one hour ride from my house to the lawyer's office and a part of me was scared that I might find more shocking news from him."Yeah, it's not like I can be any more suprised than this. My entire life feels like a poorly written movie. Why can't I have anything normal like a normal human?" I complained with a pout and he simply pulled me closer to kiss my forehead softly. "You have me. I'm pretty normal." "No, you are special to me." I smiled, feeling grateful that I had him beside me during the toughest part of my life. "That's a good one. Now stop flirting with me and let's get this done." I let out a deep breath and nodded before knocking on Tim's door. He must be a big shot lawyer if he was practicing law independently and there were a dozens of people waiting to see him in the middle of a week day. "Come in." We heard the familiar voice that we hear
"Wait, so she is not your biological mom?" Zach asked for the third time since I told him the whole story and I shook my head, looking at his confused face. We were still in bed and I finally unloaded everything that happened since I stormed out of his apartment that day. "I don't understand. If she really hates you because she thinks you somehow ruined her relationship with your dad, why would she try to send you money every month and act like she cares about you?" he questioned, sitting up straight on the bed and it was my turn to be confused. He had a point. She has always been so persistent that I take money from her and she has been extra sweet especially after my dad's death until our last phone call when I caught her on her bullshit. Thanks to Jayden! It was probably the only good outcome of dating him."I didn't think about it. Maybe she didn't want me to find out that she was ruining my relationships or something. I'm honestly confused, Zach. I had way too much to process
I stood outside Zach's house with a nervous look on my face and licked my lips as I adjusted my clothes. I was dying to meet him while he was being a respectful boyfriend, giving me the space I needed but I was done moping around. I was ready to take control of my life instead of being sad and crying over the truth. It was already too late and I needed to figure out what's the real deal with Lisa."Okay! It's just Zach. He will be happy to see me. Stop overthinking." I whispered to myself and knocked on the door. I tried to take deep breaths and calm myself as I heard some rustling behind the door. It was way past 8 in the evening and I knew he would be at home and not at the bar. "Coming!" I heard his deep voice and instantly felt my heart swell in response. I realised that I had missed him more than I had imagined. The door swung open and I sucked in a deep breath at that exact same moment. I met his crystal blue eyes that went wide in shock, surprise, happiness all at the same tim
"You are kidding, right? Is this some kind of sick joke?" I asked, sitting down on the couch, my hands already shaking. My palms were starting to get all sweaty and I had to shift my phone from one hand to the other."I have no reason to joke around, Hazel. You accuse me of having an affair but did you stop to think why didn't your father say a word despite knowing about it?" I went silent and thought about all the moments when she was being candid. She used to come home late and disappear every now and then even before my dad was sick. My dad wouldn't ask her anything.Fuck, she was right. She didn't try to hid it from us."I don't get it." I whispered, feeling so lost and confused and I wished that I had Zach with me right now. I missed him. "Let me cut to the chase, your father cheated on me long before I did, Hazel and your whore of a mother died giving birth to you. Only when your dad brought you home as a baby, I knew about the affair and your existence." She explained and al
