Cameron’s POV

The city lights blurred into streaks as I drove, every turn sharper than it needed to be. My chest was tight, like my lungs couldn’t hold enough air. All I could hear was my own heartbeat, hammering like a countdown.

I didn’t even know where I was going. I just knew I had to move. Sitting still felt like giving up, and giving up wasn’t an option. Not when Brandon was out there.

Hilda’s words echoed in my head: Retrace his steps.

So I did.

The first stop was obvious: his apartment building. I pulled into the lot, slammed the car door behind me, and practically sprinted up the steps. The receptionist looked up, startled, when I stormed in.

“Cameron?” she said, recognizing me. “What—”

“Brandon,” I cut her off, leaning on the counter, out of breath. “Did you see him today? Did he leave with anyone? Anything?”

She frowned, thinking. “This morning. Alone. He looked… distracted. Maybe even nervous.”

My gut twisted. “And then?”

“That’s it. He never came back.”

I cursed under my

Cameron’s POVThe mill was huge inside, way bigger than it looked from the street. The kind of place that could swallow a hundred people and still feel empty. Rusted machines loomed like skeletons in the dark, their metal bones creaking with every gust of air that slipped through the broken windows.I kept my hand pressed against the wall, partly so I wouldn’t trip on all the crap littering the floor, partly because my body wouldn’t stop shaking. My pulse was so loud in my ears it almost drowned out the voices. Almost. They were close. Too close.“…boss said the price doubled—” one of them muttered, voice sharp and impatient.“Then let him pay it,” another said. “I didn’t sign up for this much heat.”Heat. My stomach dropped. They were talking about Brandon. About hurting him.I swallowed, the sound deafening in my own head. My fists clenched so hard my nails cut into my palms. Hilda shot me a look like she could feel the storm building in me. She mouthed one word: Quiet.I nodded, bu

  • Rival's Contract Marriage     Chapter 189

Cameron’s POVThe hour felt like a year. I kept pacing outside Brandon’s car while Hilda leaned against the hood, scrolling her phone like she was trying not to strangle me for wearing a hole in the ground. Every couple of minutes I’d check my phone, even though I knew I wouldn’t magically get a text from Brandon. Finally, Hilda’s phone buzzed. She snapped it up, muttered something into the receiver, then waved me over. “We got him.”My heart slammed against my ribs. “What? Where?”“Not him,” she corrected, grim. “The van. My cousin patched into the traffic cams.”I didn’t even care that she clarified. Just hearing we got him made my chest explode. I crowded close while she tapped her screen, pulling up grainy footage.“There,” she said, pointing. A blurry black van, one headlight busted, rolling through an intersection. Time stamp: five minutes after the abduction.“That’s them,” I breathed.“Keep watching,” Hilda muttered. She swiped, pulling up another feed. “Okay… okay, yeah. They

Cameron’s POVBy the time Hilda pulled up, I’d worn a hole in the concrete from pacing. My nerves were shot. Every car that passed had me ready to swing. She slammed her door shut and marched over. Her eyes landed on Brandon’s car instantly, and her face hardened. “Shit. This is bad.”“No kidding,” I muttered, shoving my hands into my hoodie pocket so she wouldn’t see them shake. She crouched down, inspecting the door handle, then glanced up at me. “That’s blood, isn’t it?”“Yeah.” My throat was raw, like the word scraped it.Hilda stood, brushing her hands off. “Then he didn’t walk away. Someone forced him.”Hearing her say it out loud made my chest squeeze like a vice. I turned away, hands on my head. “I can’t— I can’t lose him, Hilda. Not like this. Not to them.”She stepped closer, voice low but steady. “We’re not going to. Okay? We’re gonna figure this out.”I let out a shaky laugh that wasn’t funny. “You sound so sure.”“Because I have to be.” She grabbed my arm, forcing me to f

Cameron POVI drove like a madman. My hands were gripping the steering wheel so tight my knuckles had gone white, and I didn’t even care. The city blurred past me, streetlights flickering against the windshield like ghosts.Brandon wasn’t answering his phone. Not texts, not calls. Nothing. It wasn’t like him. Yeah, he could be reckless, but not like this. Not silence.“Dammit, Brandon,” I muttered under my breath, pressing harder on the gas. “Where the hell are you?”Every part of me was buzzing with this ugly mix of fear and anger. Anger at him for disappearing. Anger at myself for not noticing sooner. And this deep, gnawing fear that something was seriously wrong.I pulled over suddenly, shoving the car into park, because I needed to think. Just breathe. My head fell forward against the steering wheel. The noise of the city was muffled in the background, but my heart was pounding so loud it drowned out everything else.Okay. Facts. He never showed up at the bidding. His team suddenl

Brandon POVBrandon’s POVThe flashback cracked apart like glass, and when it shattered, I was back here. Back in the dark room, tied up, bleeding out. My side burned, blood sticky under me, the smell of iron making me sick.It hurt to breathe. Every inhale was a knife. Every exhale felt like it might be my last.“Cameron…” I whispered. My lips were dry, the word weak, but it slipped out anyway. His name tasted like hope and pain all at once. My voice was shaking, barely even sound, but it was all I had left. The ceiling spun, and I shut my eyes. And suddenly, memories came crashing down harder than the pain.Gas station. Road trip. Him rolling his eyes at me.“You’re dramatic,” his voice echoed in my head.“Yeah? And you’re boring,” I muttered, lips twitching, even now.I could almost hear him snort. Almost see the pink on his ears when I called him out.I coughed, blood bubbling in my throat. “You were so mad at me that day,” I whispered. “But you still bought me the spicy chips any
