Cameron’s POV

The thirty minutes of deliberation stretched longer than they should have.

Time behaved strangely when people were waiting for a verdict about their future. Conversations in the hallway faded into distant murmurs, reporters whispered behind their notebooks, and students pretended to scroll through their phones while clearly listening for any movement from inside the room.

I stood beside Brandon near the window, watching the courtyard below.

From a distance the campus looked perfec

Cameron’s POVMy father’s voice echoed through the tunnel.“Bring my son to me.”I couldn’t move.It was strange how one sentence could make every memory I’d ever buried claw its way back to the surface. My palms became sweaty. My chest tightened. And suddenly, I was twelve again.Standing in that hallway.Holding Amelia’s hand.Listening to my father’s footsteps getting closer.“Cameron.”Brandon’s voice pulled me back.I looked at him.He was standing directly in front of me.Protecting me.Again.“Stay behind me.”I swallowed.“I don’t want you to get hurt again.”His eyes softened.“I don’t care.”“I do.”He stared at me.Then I reached for his hand.“I care about you too much.”For a second, he looked like he wanted to say something. Then Ethan whispered,“Can we have this emotional moment somewhere that isn’t about to become a crime scene?”Adrian elbowed him.“Ow.”“What?”“You’re ruining the moment.”“I’m trying to keep everyone alive.”Despite everything, I almost smiled. The

Cameron’s POV“Amelia.”The name left my mouth like a question.Like if I said it too loudly, the voice would disappear.Nobody moved.Nobody dared to breathe. The darkness around us felt heavy, but somehow, all I could hear was my own heartbeat pounding inside my chest. Then the voice came again.“Cameron?”My knees almost gave out.Brandon caught me around the waist.“Easy.”I grabbed his arm.“She’s alive.”My voice cracked.“She’s actually alive.”My grandfather didn’t say anything.Ethan did.“Where is she?”The voice answered from somewhere behind us.“I’m here.”A tiny light flickered on.Then another.A figure slowly stepped out from behind one of the shelves.A woman. Her hair was longer than I remembered. Her face was thinner. She looked older. But I knew those eyes.I knew that smile.I knew the tiny scar above her eyebrow from when we were children and she had fallen off her bicycle because she insisted she could ride without holding the handles. My sister. My Amelia. My h

Cameron’s POVI couldn’t stop staring at the note.Victor isn’t the enemy. He’s protecting me.Those words didn’t make sense.None of this made sense. My grandfather was supposedly controlling my father.Victor was supposedly controlling my grandfather.Brandon had supposedly erased my memories. My sister had disappeared. And somehow, I had apparently planned part of it myself. At this point, I was starting to think my family needed therapy more than secrets.A lot of therapy.Brandon stepped closer.“Cameron?”I looked at him.“What?”“You’re shaking.”I looked down.He was right. My hands were trembling badly.“I don’t understand anything anymore.”Brandon gently took the note from my fingers.“You don’t have to understand everything tonight.”“Yes, I do.”My voice cracked.“I’ve spent years not knowing who I am.”He stared at me quietly.“I wake up every day with holes in my memories, and everyone keeps telling me they’re protecting me.”My eyes filled with tears.“But nobody ever

Cameron’s POVFor a few seconds, nobody moved.Nobody even breathed properly. We stood inside the narrow passage, pressed against cold stone walls while the man’s laughter continued from the other side of the door.It wasn’t loud. That somehow made it worse. It was soft.Calm.Almost amused.Like he already knew exactly where we were.Brandon’s hand was still wrapped around mine.“Cameron,” he whispered.I looked at him.“What?”“Are you sure you know that voice?”I nodded slowly.“I think so.”“You think?”“I was a kid.”My voice shook.“I don’t remember his face, but I remember his voice.”My grandfather turned toward me.“You shouldn’t remember him.”I stared at him.“That’s the problem, isn’t it?”He looked away.I stepped closer.“You knew.”“Cameron—”“You knew I’d remember eventually.”His silence answered for him.I felt anger rise inside my chest.“Who is he?”My grandfather sighed.“His name is Victor.”Brandon’s expression hardened.“Victor who?”My grandfather didn’t answe

Cameron’s POVNobody spoke. For several seconds, the entire room became painfully quiet.I stared at my grandfather. He stared back at me.Brandon stood beside me, his hand still wrapped around mine, like he was silently reminding me that I was not alone. My grandfather swallowed.“Cameron,” he finally said.I shook my head.“No.”His eyebrows pulled together.“Please, just listen.”“You knew?”My voice came out quieter than I expected. He looked away. That was enough. My stomach dropped.“You knew,” I whispered.Brandon squeezed my hand.My grandfather sighed heavily.“I knew about your father.”I laughed once.It wasn’t funny. It was the kind of laugh people made when something hurt too much.“Of course you did.”“Cameron—”“You knew everything!”My voice echoed through the room.Ethan stepped closer.“Cameron, calm down.”I turned toward him.“Don’t tell me to calm down.”He immediately raised both hands.“Okay. Not calming down. Got it.”Despite everything, Adrian snorted.Ethan l

Chapter — The Man Behind EverythingCameron’s POVI stared at the man without moving afterward. His face looked strangely familiar to me.But my mind couldn’t place him anywhere.Brandon stood beside me, watching him carefully. His fingers remained tightly wrapped around mine.“You really don’t remember me?” he asked.I shook my head slowly afterward.“Should I?”He smiled sadly at me afterward.“You used to call me Uncle Daniel.”Something inside my chest suddenly tightened.Uncle Daniel. The name felt familiar somehow.I closed my eyes briefly afterward.A memory appeared almost immediately afterward.I was younger, sitting beside him quietly. He was teaching me how to shuffle cards.Brandon was sitting across from us, laughing.I remembered that laugh more clearly afterward. Then everything disappeared again.I opened my eyes quickly afterward.“You knew Brandon too.”Daniel smiled slightly afterward.“I knew everyone.”Brandon immediately stepped forward afterward.“You knew Camer

Cameron’s POVWhen I woke up, sunlight was already bleeding through the car windows, pale and cold. For a second, I didn’t even remember where we were. My head was on Brandon’s chest, his arms still wrapped around me like I was something he was afraid to lose. His heartbeat thumped steady under my

Brandon’s POVThe rain didn’t let up all night. It came down in sheets, blurring the road ahead until all I could see were streaks of gray and the faint glow of the headlights. Cameron sat in the passenger seat, quiet, watching the drops slide down his window. His hoodie was still damp, the sunflow

Cameron’s POVI woke up the next morning to the smell of pancakes. Actual pancakes. For a second, I thought I was dreaming — the kind of soft dream where everything feels too perfect to be real. But then I heard Brandon humming off-key in the kitchen, and reality clicked back in.“Please tell me yo

Brandon’s POVThe morning sunlight hit my face like a dare. I blinked at the brightness sneaking through the blinds and found Cameron still asleep beside me, his hand curled loosely against my chest, his breath soft and even. He looked peaceful, which was a rare sight lately. I didn’t dare move. Th
