Chapter 71

EREBUS

Gently I try to shake Ella awake and instead of waking she rolls over and snuggles into my pillow. “It is expected that the Luna be there. You are supposed to be at my side,” I try and convince Ella to come to Vanessa’s beheading.

“Since when do I do what is expected of me,” she retorts sleepily, and I cannot argue with her logic.

“Ella, sometimes we must do what is expected of us,” I try to coach her out of the bed, but she only snuggles into my pillow farther.

“I am not going to witness another death,” Ella says shortly as she sits up in the bed.

“Especially not another one that is because of me.”

“None of these deaths are because of you,” I try to reason with her, but she throws herself back on the bed and covers her face with the blankets. She mumbles something angrily from under the blanket that is muffled. “What was that?” I ask her to repeat herself.

Ripping the blankets off of her head she looks at me with tears gleaming in her emerald, green eyes.
