Chapter 1

I did not reply to Jeremy Steward's message. I just stared at that photo.

I knew the car interior all too well. After all, it was the promotional gift I had given him.

Hanging from the glove compartment on the passenger side was the safety charm I had woven by hand.

I tapped into that unfamiliar account again and opened her playlist.

The pinned playlist was titled 'A Love That Came Late.'

Its description read, 'You are the joy that came too late and the one I'll love for the rest of my life.'

Every song in it was Jeremy's favorite: post-rock and obscure indie folk.

Every single track showed records of them listening together from 2:00 A.M. to 5:00 A.M.

Those were all the nights he said he was 'working late' and did not come home.

A wave of bitterness rose in my chest.

Suddenly, my phone buzzed.

A message popped up.

[Happy New Year, Sabrina! No matter how far I go, you'll always be my closest family.]

It was Everly Chance, the girl I had sponsored for four years, the one I personally brought out of the mountains, the one I helped get a job at Jeremy's company.

My fingers hovered over the reply box, but before I could type anything, a notification lit up.

As if possessed, I tapped it.

The video was only five seconds long.

Jeremy, who was supposedly pulling an all-nighter at work, was standing by the sea.

The night wind whipped around him. The sparkler in his hand crackled, lighting up the gentle curve of his face.

From off-camera, Everly's voice sounded sweet and cloying.

"Make a wish, Jeremy."

Jeremy smiled and blew out the sparks, his gaze so soft it almost melted the lens.

"My wish is this: may every year be like today, with you, Everly, in my life."

In an instant, my hands and feet turned ice cold.

Every year? With her in his life?

Then, what was I? A joke he got to relive every year?

My stiff gaze drifted back to that photo of their hands intertwined in the car.

I had not noticed it before, but at that moment, I saw it clearly.

On that slender, pale wrist was a simple silver bracelet.

Though it was nothing expensive, it looked painfully familiar.

It was the birthday gift I had carefully chosen for Everly just last month.

Then I looked at the account's ID.

[J&E]

'Jeremy and Everly, huh?'

So, that was it.

The girl I had treated like my own little sister…had stolen the man I loved with all my heart.

A quiet laugh escaped me. I kept laughing until tears hit the screen.

Just six months ago, Jeremy had frowned and complained to me, saying, "That Everly is so clumsy. Can you stop pushing her onto me to mentor?"

I had even comforted him back then.

"She's had it rough growing up. Just be patient with her."

So this was how he showed his 'patience.'

It seemed he had really gone all out.

I looked at the pot of broth on the table, the one I had spent four hours simmering specifically for him. A thick, greasy film had already formed on the surface.

It felt just like my situation with him at that moment. It looked warm and tender on the surface, but underneath, it was nothing but something sickening.

I stood up, picked up the pot, and dumped the liquid straight into the trash.

Jeremy and Everly were fired on the spot.Everly was dragged out by security, crying and begging, claiming she had been deceived. However, no one paid her any attention.Jeremy, on the other hand, looked completely defeated. Before leaving, he glared at me viciously. "Sabrina, you've gone too far. You'll regret this!"I smiled. "My only regret…is not seeing through you sooner."...After handling things at the company, I did not stop.I had said that I would make them pay.I sent all the evidence I had compiled, along with the surveillance footage, to Everly's university.Although she was interning, she had not graduated yet. That level of moral misconduct was enough for her to lose her degree and maybe even get expelled. At the same time, I formally filed a lawsuit.I sued Jeremy for returning my money, along with the recovery of large gifts given during the relationship.I also sued Everly for unjust enrichment, demanding the return of all sponsorship funds. The case we

When I read those few lines, I felt a chill spread through my entire body. My fingers were trembling in indignance.Jeremy, the man I had loved for eight years, decided to throw me under the bus for the sake of another woman. The group chat exploded instantly. Public opinion was completely one-sided.[Mr. Steward has spoken. It must be true!][This is so disgusting. How desperate for love is this woman?][Exactly. She's blaming the intern because of her inability to keep her man?]Looking at those comments, the last trace of warmth in my heart disappeared. The next day, I walked into Jeremy's company. The moment I stepped through the doors, I could feel the strange looks.Whispers. Pointing fingers. All of them were focused on me."Hey, that's the 'obsessed girlfriend,' right?""She's pretty, but how can her mind be so twisted?"I kept my gaze forward and walked straight to the meeting room.Everly sat beside Jeremy, her eyes red as if she had been crying. When he saw me,

On our fifth anniversary, Jeremy chose an upscale restaurant.Halfway through the meal, the lights suddenly dimmed. He got down on one knee and took out a velvet box.The crowd began to cheer, "Say yes! Say yes!"I looked at the box.Inside was a diamond ring.It looked large, but I could tell at a glance it was moissanite, a cheap imitation worth roughly a hundred dollars online. He had used my money to keep a mistress and proposed to me with a fake diamond. It would be a lie to say it did not hurt.I had given him my heart, and he returned it with something fake."Sabrina, thank you for these five years. This ring represents my heart. It may not be worth much now, but I swear, one day I'll replace it with the biggest one."Jeremy spoke with deep affection."As long as you add my name to the property deed, we'll truly share everything. What's mine will be yours."So, that was his real goal. Finally, he was getting ready to reel me in.I took the microphone and stood up,

The next morning, my phone vibrated. It was a message from Everly. Upon opening the message, several photos popped up.I tapped to enlarge them. The moment my eyes landed on those two bright red lines, my heart clenched.Everly was pregnant.I stared at the pregnancy test result and could not help but tear up.Eight years.I had curled up in Jeremy's arms countless times, imagining we would have a child someday. Would it be a boy like him or a girl like me?However, every time I brought up having children, he would frown and push me away."Sabrina, now's not the time. The company isn't stable yet. We can't afford a child right now."For the sake of his career, I took birth control pills for three years, compromising my health in exchange for his promise of our future. Then, Everly's message came through.[Sabrina, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for this to happen. But Jeremy and I truly love each other. Our souls resonate. He doesn't love you. He's just used to your care. Please,

I moved into my best friend's place. The moment I walked in, Ophelia Jones pulled me into a tight hug.She let out a sigh and said, "Sabrina, congratulations on leaving that scumbag and regaining your freedom."That single sentence made my nose sting.Three years ago, when I insisted on selling the apartment my parents left me to fund Jeremy's startup, Ophelia had pointed at me and scolded me like I had lost my mind."Sabrina! Your parents left you that money so you'd never have to worry about life, not so you could bankroll some opportunistic guy!"Someone like Jeremy... Everything about him screams a schemer. Only a sheltered rich girl like you, who's never struggled a day in her life, would believe that nonsense about not looking down on a poor man!"Back then, I was so confident. My eyes were full of dreams for the future."Ophelia, love can overcome anything. He just needs an opportunity. I believe in him. When he succeeds, he'll treat me even better."Ophelia just laughe

Jeremy froze. Soon, his anger boiled over."What now? Just because I carried Everly earlier? Sabrina, can you stop being so petty? That was an emergency! It was serious!"I let out a cold laugh and scoffed, saying, "A twisted ankle is life-or-death now? Then, why weren't you this anxious when I had appendicitis surgery?"He fell silent, ruffling his hair in irritation."That was ages ago! Why are you bringing it up again? Haven't I treated you well? I even gave you all my salary..."I cut him off with a faint smile. "The account you gave me only gets 3,000 dollars deposited into it every month. Your real salary goes into another account, doesn't it?"That account is also linked to Everly's online shopping family account."His face turned deathly pale."How… How do you know that?""If you're worried about people finding out, you shouldn't have done it in the first place."I stood up and continued, saying, "Jeremy, I'm not stupid. You know exactly how much I've spent on you ove
